I just picked up the top spec, 8 core i9 with 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD and 8GB GPU from Convent Garden - London today ❤️ They didn’t have the 1TB model... and I couldn’t be bothered to wait for a custom order to be shipped. Upgraded from a 13” 2016 model with 2 cores.

TechNotWizardry only recommendation I have for them is that they are little late to party... there was 10s of videos within hours of release.. 2nd they don’t compare laptops across segments and mfr... most of the video revolves around apple only... I am hoping to see more range of videos...

The 100watt hour battery means that if you had a power load of 100 watts, it would drain the battery in 1 hour. Typically the average power draw of processor with all cores active is about 45 watts. So assuming the cooling system is able to dissipate all that heat, you will still be able to charge while using it since the charger is outputting close to 100 watts

It is a great update but as I have the 2018 15" MacBook Pro I won't upgrade yet. I will wait for the New CPU's, better wifi and FaceTime camera. I dropped my 15" a couple of weeks ago. It has been repaired and the keyboard is now the 2019 version. It is bloody awesome. Quiet and feels like it has better travel. Mind you, I never had a problem with the original either.

I prefer the iMac/iPad Pro (2018) combination. I expect that future MacBooks and iMacs will have the A13 bionic chip which does not need cooling or will not slow down for cooling. How long will the wait be?

I have run into an interesting problem that never used to be an issue. I have been flipping Macs for at least a decade and always sold fast with good resale. This was the benefit that balanced the "Apple tax". I listed my June 15.4" 8 core MBP 3 days ago at a cheap price....not one expression of interest. I think Apple's newer approach of profit over quality is going to hurt us in this regard, and it will hurt them too as I will not be buying a new model if I can't sell the old one.

lol the whole discharging section is totally wrong. 1. battery capacity is not related to the wattage it can put out or the charger 2. 12 watts improvement means it can handle more heat. The previous thermal solution can dissipate around 60 watts of heat and now it's 72

Yes I don’t find it very expensive compared to even future competition. Wish the MagSafe, SD card slot and at least one USB3 slot could come back. Otherwise, you have to buy the older 2015 model, probably hard to find in new condition on eBay now.

The maxed out price drop is pretty cool, first time I heard that. Overall it seems like a middle of the road redesign / new model. It could've been worse, it could've been better. I would've liked a 4K display as well as face ID. I'm not a professional content creator, more of an average home user. So, my next "laptop like" purchase, will be the next iPad Pro. Custom silicon with a custom operating system perfectly designed for each other. With the added benefit of a massively stocked App Store to back it up.

The 16 inch looks to be a necessary update, not an upgrade. Still an expensive piece of kit and way out of my price range, but it is a good omen for the future of Apple's MacBook Pro line. Still slightly worried about the battery and charger though, a 96 watt charger paired with a 100Wh battery doesn't sound like a good combination to me. They could have gotten at least a 110 Watt charger for a little safety buffer, though I don't know what the FAA rules for such things are so maybe a compromise?

Wh : quantity of electricity, W : power. New MacBook Pro won't "discharged slightly" when used at its fullest when plugged in. It will charge because a 100Wh battery has no correlation with a 96W charger. (It only means that it will require more than one hour to fully charge if not used). You don't drive a Tesla, do you...

You keep mentioning "vapor chamber" but that would do literally nothing to help the cooling if you have identical fins/air speed going out of the macbook. Any energy your cooling system needs to transfer from the cooled component also needs to somehow get out of the system. That is where the area of the fins + air speed comes into play. So you have some options there. But using more efficient heat transfer from the CPU to the cooling system would not help that much if you can't get the heat/energy out.

The battery and charger watt part is kinda misleading, battery is in unit Of Watt*hour, charger in the unit watt. It is more reasonable to compare charger power with total power consumption of cpu gpu etc

I don't think they re gonna change the design anytime soon, the next step will be the introduction of the 14 inch mbp next year, so these are going to stay for at least 2 years. And by the way, what redesign could you possibly do, it's a laptop, once you've shrinked down the bazels, the only thing they could do it's make smooth rounded edges. The laptop looks already dope, thin, clean design, the only flaws about design in 2019 were t those giant bazels.

You're wrong about the battery commentary, the battery's capacity is rated in energy units (watt-hours, the battery is 100 Wh), while the charger is rated to electric power it can deliver to the battery (in watts, 96 W). So, it being a smaller number does not mean it will discharge while being used at the fullest.

I think it is a big update - 10% more battery life, 80% faster graphics, cheaper to upgrade RAM and SSD with max size up to 2x more than before, AND BETTER KEYBOARD. Still going to wait till the next gen processors to upgrade my Mid 2014 15" rMBP.

Yes, this is a new generation. It is a redesign. And even in 2012 the larger pro got upgraded to the new generation first which got followed by the 13 the year after.

7:45 Actually, you are very wrong here. The rate of charge drops and it still charges. Lithium batteries are only in certain circumstances under constant charge. Most of the time the charge is pushed in for a period of time, then the charging stops, BMS (probably a part of the SMCA in T2) checks all the individual cell voltages in this resting period. The charge then continues.... On the other hand, this is a 100Wh battery. What is the fastest that you can discharge the battery with that computer? - I'm guessing it is 3h. If that is correct the computer takes 33Wh to run under full load. So take the 97W charger, give 33W to the computer and you have plenty left to charge. Hey, these are figures which I have guessed, but go ahead and charge your old 15" and run it full load on the battery and report back times. We can elaborate on that. Cheers

I'm happy for apple, that they got their act together in this regard. That being said. Here is where they could innovate and make us love this thing like we used to ranked by importance: 1.) Increase Repairability massively 2.) Make undervolting and pro performance tweaks accessible again 3.) 3200 mhz ram 4.) New innovative cooling 5.) Include a Mag save to Usb-C Adapter cause why not? cant cost a ton. 6.) Wifi 6 7.) Hdr 10+ 8.)Make it cheaper XD

there is an error on the battery / charger segment. the battery is 100 Wh, that is watt/hours which means, it would discharge completely in one hour if the device attached consumed 100W the charger is 96W, that is watts, which means it would need 1 hour, 2 minutes and 30 seconds to fully charge the battery. considering the battery lasts 11h at best, that means the minimum consumption of this laptop is 100/11 = 9W. which leaves 96 - 9 = 87W to the actual charging process, which means the laptop on minimal use would take 1 hour, 8 minutes, 58 seconds to charge fully

One fact mistake: the 100Wh is the capacity of the battery, while 96W is the power of the charger: they are different quantities that cannot be compared. Even a 87W charger can charge a 100Wh battery, only a little longer. What matters most is actually the peak power consumption of CPU and GPU. If it's more than the power of the charger, then your laptop would not charge the battery at all while in full load.

7:46 the story regarding battery and charger is wrong, battery capacity is energy, measured bu Joules, Volt*Amper*Second, WattSeconds, WattHours, Kalories and etc. Its possible to charge 100Wh macbook battery with 1 watt charger, but it will take 100 hours...

I was expecting more. It is a good improvement that should have happened 3 years ago. If I was a teacher I would give it C+ as it is very expensive and really lacks specs from others on the market yet charges top prices and you can not upgreat. I would not update. The cheapest reasonable spec i9 is almost £3,500.. wtf. I can get a razer 2019 with better spec and looks (minus the unibody) for £2k.). If I could get the Mac operating system to run on the Razer that would be the dream machine.
