Thank you very much for this tutorial. I just upgraded my macbook Pro 2011. Everything went fine. The speed is back. No need to buy another macbook for the time being👍🏻.
Bro can you please help me, I have 2011 mbp 15" it is installed with bootcamp and no mac os. I created a bootable drive through windows and in recovery I selected bootable drive and it is stuck in Apple logo. It won't go to recovery. What should I do? Please reply🥺
Great Videos 👍👍 Few Questions - I Want To Keep The Hard Drive But Replace The Optical Drive To SSD, Can i Just Remove The Optical Drive and Install SSD Using Optical Bay HD Enclosure and Install High Sierra On It - Will it Work !!??? Because I Have Read Many Comments On Internet Regarding SATA III Compatibility Issues That Cause Problems Like Not Mounting, Ejecting During Larger Transfer Files Etc. For My Macbook 13 Late 2011 Model - Or Should i Just Take The Harddisk Out And Put SSD In & Replace Optical Drive With HardDisk Using Optical Bay HD Enclosure - Will It Work !!?? - The SSD You Used In This Video , Is It Working Fine !!??
If you want to replace the Optical Drive in your MacBook I suggest having a look at iFixit, they have many useful tutorials: www.ifixit.com/Device/MacBook_Pro_13%22_Unibody_Late_2011
I’m seeing people having a problem with loading High Sierra on an apfs formatted disk. You were successful loading High Sierra on APFS. Is loading High Sierra from a thumb drive the work around?
Thank you very much for these tutorials. Very, very interesting !!! Now I have to decide whether it is convenient to upgrade RAM and SSD on my MacBook Pro Late 2011. My question is: how long this computer will continue to live considering that new OS versions are not compatible and not upgraded on this machine? What will happen in the future? Wath is the consequence of that? Will still the computer be usable in 2 or 3 years?
@@abcdefuxkk this is very nice. But my dubt is: is maybe possible that next year or so, I can have strong problems to run applications due to the old OS?
@@costagliolasandro there is always risk ,i i wish i knew that upgrade few year ago but again what to lose even if i can use it 1 more year still good to me than buying new one
Doesn't work. My newly formatted APFS drive (1 TB Samsung EVO 850) is ghosted and shows "This volume is not formatted as MacOS Extended (Journaled)." I tried APFS and APFS (Encrypted) neither of which work... The High Sierra installer was downloaded today (23-May-2021) from Apple and placed on a 32GB USB stick. I'm out of ideas... SSD is from 2017 or so, firmware issue perhaps??
UPDATE: I found some mention of needing to already have installed High Sierra before attempting a clean install from a High Sierra USB installer. So I formatted as MacOS Extended (Journaled), installed the OS, did all the updates including firmware and then went back to the High Sierra USB installer. I again blew away the disk with Disk Utility and formatted APFS, and now it sees the disk and is installing High Sierra onto an APFS formatted Samsung 850 EVO SSD! Just in case anyone else has this problem, that's the solution. Apparently the High Sierra firmware updates are required to talk to 3rd Party (internal) SSDs vs. the Apple soldered ones these days. For a company that prides itself on Mac "just works", it sure took a LOT of technical research and other nonsense just to get to a usable HS installation on APFS!
When you turned on your mac to install the ssd with the usb stick, I did not see you open in recovery mode, correct? You just turned it on and went to disk utility to erase and format the ssd.
Hi, your information is very thorough. Well done. But I have a question. I don't have another mac to create a bootable disc. So I use TransMac (popular method), however now that my USB had been formatted the right way, the start up doesn't detect the USB boot (not going pass the installation screen (9:35)). Please shed a light
Also please be aware that newer MacBooks have a so-called T2 security chip. While in the past on older models you could just plug in any USB stick or external drive and boot from it, the new security chip will prevent it unless you previously change the settings.

When you're in terminal after taping NO ( for NO NAME) what is the "tap button" that you talk about? to automatically have the good volume name...? from a very beginner
Either Apple removed it since the making of this video or, I’m not researching properly. I went into Apple and tried to pull up exactly what you show on your vid, and only Catalina os pops up.🥺
@@ReviewTechTV apple store only lets me download the 21MB installer.. can i do something with it? I want to install them in another computer so i would need a bootable installer. I've tried making the bootable installer from the 21MB file, but Terminal said it is not the right installer application, although i've downloaded it from App Store :( Any help will be greatly appreciated good sir🙏
Hi ReviewTechTV, did your High Sierra installation via USB take 8-9 hours too? I used the same Samsung 860 Evo SSD but at 250gb Do you think I may have RAM or other problems like mobo? I did Apple Diagnostics and no problems were found. My High Sierra Installation stops at 4mins and gives me the error: "An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again." This has happened 3 times now. I have also used Terminal to input the correct time and date but no luck at all. Still the same error.
Hi, nice video. I was wondering how come I'm getting a prompt in my MacBook Pro 2009 that the installer is damaged somehow? I've downloaded from multiple sources and the same exact thing is happening. Formatted the drive as shown in your video, made a bootable usb drive as well and it just goes tumbling down at the install stage. Would be awesome if you could help out. Thank you
@@ReviewTechTV I got it installed now. Had to change the date and disconnect from the web. You should add it to your description since that way it works 100%. But thank you for replying by the way.
Thank you very much for the videos and the links. I have the Mac Book Pro 13' late 2011 and I also use the same SSD. I am running into 2 problems however: 1 - when I format the SSD the system does not offer me APFS 2 - when I pick "install MacOS" it shows El Capitan and wants to download the OS Any idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks.
Sure, you can install macOS High Sierra on your MacBook Pro, if you don’t want to clean install from USB there is also the normal method ➜ support.apple.com/en-us/HT208969

Great video, very thorough, however... I downloaded the Install macOS High Sierra to an external. Can't I simply copy and paste this to a thumbdrive? Or do I need to do like you did with pasting the link into the terminal? Thank you.
I just did this today, copy the SUDO code from "support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372" and change My Volume to the name of your thumb drive. Then follow the steps of enter password, do you want to except, etc. May take a few minutes to format but should have no issues installing to thumbdrive. Cheers
@@ReviewTechTV I did it a few months back, so I do not remember. Though I do remember it was not in the app store. I found a link where you can download it. It's on my external. I have several files that came with it like...HighSierraBasics.icns, HighSierraHardware.icns, HighSierraWhatsNew.icns, Install macOS High Sierra (no file extension, under kind says, application), and a bunch of module audio and tag php files, etc... Like I said, Can I simply put these files on a thumbdrive and then plug it into my non-working laptop that I'm trying to install it on? Thank you! Kim
My Mac is stuck in safe Boot when I erase the hard drive and reinstall the os still showing safe boot and when I tried to fix the problem from disk utility it is not fixing in disk utility it showing problem s were found in partion map which might preventing booting

Hello. Big issue here. I have updated from Sierra to Catalina. But everything is working bad. I want to install back my backup Sierra HFS. i formatted my SSD as the APFS filesystem but when i went to choose where to install the OS it stated "this drive is not formatted as macOS extended Journal." does it have to do with how I downloaded the installer?

you all prolly dont care at all but does someone know a trick to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my login password. I love any help you can give me!
@Jasper Marshall I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Excellent video!!! You need to update 1 step. macOs High Sierra is no longer on App Store and link on the apple page does not help. Instead you can download MDS (Free). Launch MDS and at the bottom left you can click on download mac OS and download most of the macOs operating systems since High Sierra. Next you have to move the macOs High Sierra over to the applications and then follow the remaining steps on your video there after. Definitely a thumbs up and a must sub. Thank you so much.
I followed the forum and this video and found that I was unable to install the OS when the SSD was formatted APFS, and kept receiving the error "This volume is not formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).". I partitioned the drive and reformatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and was able to install. Is there major advantages to formatting APFS and if so can I reformat after the fact?
All new SSD drives should be formatted using APFS, when formatting it will detect and select the right option automatically: ➜ support.apple.com/en-us/HT208496#which
If I am not mistaken the terminal command should override the USB flash drive regardless of it's current file system. If the USB isn't detected go to: -> Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility -> View -> Show All Devices
You need to erase your USB drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) at first. Here's the Apple's official guide to make bootable MacOS USB drive : support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372
Awesome, glad to hear it was useful, I also put the apple support articles in the description below, good for additional reference, such as copying the console commands.
Hi, thanks for the videos that are very clear ! I followed all the steps successfully, but on the macOS High Sierra installation page, when asking to choose the disk, my "Mac SSD" cannot be chosen as it says "This volume is not formatted as Mac Os Extended ". Indeed, I have just formatted the drive with the APFS filesystem. Do you know what can be done to solve this? Thanks again!
@@ReviewTechTV thanks for the quick answer! I followed the following steps -> Erase Disk (Samsung) -> Mac Os Extended and then launch the install manager of Mac Os High Sierra, it worked and it seems the system automatically formated the SSD into APFS (crypted). Thanks a lot for the help !
Thx for all the vids man! Amazing walkthrough. Formatting to APFS wouldn’t let me install High Sierra. To be able to install I needed the Mac OS extended file system but it wasn’t available now in disk utility - after searching RU-vid I found you need to go into edit and delete the APFS volume - you can now select the file system you need to install HS
Sadly my 2009 IMac isn’t giving me the option to delete. It’s greyed out so I seem stuck in APFS and I am trying to donate the computer to a youth centre. I’m not sure what else to do.
