After a night camping at Chinamen's Campground, I head to Helena, MT where I stay four nights at my friends', Dave and Monica, waiting for west winds to subside. Once the forecast changed for the better I ride over MacDonald Pass and reach Garrison, MT. This day was one of the toughest due to excessive headwinds. After camping at Garrison I start heading west once again trying to reach Missoula and hoping to cover as many miles as possible so as to avoid winter weather before reaching Seattle. Subscribe to see what other adventures I get myself into as I travel with my touring bicycle for 4,000 miles and thru 14 states before reaching the West Coast during these 11 weeks of summer.

My favorite Playlist on RU-vid! Such an inspiration to get out there and pedal! Iam just getting into cycling at 40 years old...lol.Iam beginning to love climbing as well, it's strangly addictive. Loved the North Carolina portion of your journey as that's where I live, not too far from Lake Lure.Keep up the great content and best wishes !!
@FlyscoutRyder
@FlyscoutRyder 2 года назад
Hi Matthew. Yes climbing is where its at. There is something about gaining elevation and look down at the topography or simply find cooler temperatures. Lake Lure and NC are so beautiful. You also have the Blueridge parkway near by. I really want to ride it in its entirety someday. The Appalachian Range is by far one of my favorite places to tour so far. It's challenging with grade and so lush with nature. Thanks for reaching out and checking out my channel.

Thank you Gary. Thanks for watching my episodes. More on the way. Yes, I will do an episode at some point about my bike. I built it up myself and it's very special to me. Im currently trying to catch up with my editing so as to finish putting last season together and get riding again. Im close and when I start this season I will do a piece on my bicycle. Stay tuned

Love the videos! I have to say I'm inspired and planning to tour myself in Sept 22. I first began riding in May of 2020, (yes the height of covid) and fell in love right away. My first bike touring trip will be a 900 mile tour from Atlanta to Houston. This will be a solo journey, so wish me luck!
@FlyscoutRyder
@FlyscoutRyder 2 года назад
I wish you all the luck possible. That is very cool and quite the tour. I would venture to say that you will not want to stop riding after 900 miles. The routine of daily riding and seeing new ground is very addicting. Keep us posted.

Thank you, Shelley. I really enjoy every aspect of it. Especially the being outdoors part and it is not like I haven’t or do spend much time indoors. The Montana, Wyoming, Colorado set up is at the best of what our nation has to offer us. I hope you are spending time outdoors too

There are a lot of four letter words, but WIND is amongst the worst of them. Nothing seems to suck the lifeforce out of you more than a long day into a strong head wind. We are still enjoying and loving your videos, thanks.
@FlyscoutRyder
@FlyscoutRyder 3 года назад
Thank you for watching. Yes, WIND is brutal on a bike especially when you have panniers making you not so aerodynamic. It is part of the game though so I try take it for what it is and maintain my output steady and not try control speed or distance. Its such a head game just like climbing

Does the strong headwind mess with your sinuses ? That looked like some hard climbing but it’s getting you in super physical shape....beautiful scenery
@FlyscoutRyder
@FlyscoutRyder 3 года назад
Yes, climbing is the way to get in better riding shape. This MacDonald Pass was one of my last ones that summer so it wasn't so bad in the climbing sense but the wind added to the difficulty. The other climbs where tough to but for other reasons. Check out the Powder River Pass and Beartooth Pass episodes. Sinuses come and go with allergies and wind but never too bad. Thanks for watching

Great video! I don't know how you do it. What happens when you've been doing hard climbing for a couple of hours, and you're spent? Get off the road and stealth camp?
@FlyscoutRyder
@FlyscoutRyder 3 года назад
Yes. If I ever feel spent I just look for a place to camp. Its a bit tricky in the United States because there is so much private property and you can't just camp anywhere. I try plan my day ahead of it so as to decipher where I'll be staying with as many options as I can figure. Thank you for watching.

Dude, I've never been bit so don't think it's likely it would happen. Just be careful not to swerve onto traffic avoiding a dog. I carry maze as well but I never had to use it and hate the thought of some dog owner getting really pissed at me for spraying their pooch. It would need to be a dire circumstance. Be careful out there. I will too
