I guess this was a dual PIR + Microwave technology motion detector because a cheap old PIR technology should activate when the light is suddenly switched on??? Lucky with the switch on the power cord too.

Dual sensor will be more sensitive. I install these sensors on automatic doors. In reality,McGyver friend would have triggered the Infrared sensor. It detects heat from his light bulb

+Neal Daniels --> Depending on the type of detector, blinding the detector suddenly like that with light would probably make it trigger. Most motion detectors react to a change in infrared energy from one place to another in its field of view.

I have no idea what I'm talking about but it seems like the sensor would require the same lighting and no shadows interrupting to not trigger the explosion sooner
