Rapid continuous explosive & powerful striking is a hallmark of Xing Yi. After 12 weeks of training in our Xing Yi Intensive, our students have learned the various skills they need to move this way. In the following lesson Richard Clear shows you how to put those pieces together and start building this type of movement.
Chapter 6: Hsing-I is a Closing Art
Lesson 2: Machine Gun Hitting
This is what a student learns in their 13th week of training Clear's Xing Yi.
If the student has been practicing all the previous lessons diligently they will be able to move with a decent amount of this explosiveness right away.
Of course their power and explosiveness will increase much more with several weeks and months of practicing this type of striking.
This lesson assumes you have already learned and are building these skills:
- Internal "post" alignment from Chapter 3:Fighting Use of Proper Body Mechanics (the first 5 - 9 weeks of training)
- Deep Root & 'sinking the chi' from Chapter 4: Dropping Root with every Hit (Weeks 10 & 11 of training)
- Fortifying your center while connecting to and dominating the opponents center from Chapter 5: Hsing-I Fortifies the Center (the 12th week of training)
- Fighting methods with each element. (these are taught throughout the course beginning on day 1.)
- Basic condensing from Chapter 2: The Internal Action of Each Element (3rd & 4th weeks of training)

I have been enjoying Xing Yi as taught by Dr. Her Yue Wong since 1981. I love Xing Yi. SiGung Clear present his Cing Yi in an Excellent manner here.

Our goal is to let as many people as possible know about it and get them all trained up well so we have a lot more people to practice our Xing Yi with.

When I look at the language you use here and think of what I believe you mean and my limited understanding of internal techniques, it's that the power is coming from your core and is being poured out of your limbs in bursts, It's kind of like you're holding back the bulk of your energy but you're not holding back on the expression of the attacks. I think an appropriate metaphor might be a whip, the power comes from projecting a wave in such a way that it resonates concentrates as it travels and if aimed properly, explodes where it snaps at the end. I often think of internal styles as being like those wacky waving inflatable tube guys, with kinetic waves being generated at the center or their base and then just being shot up the torso and out of the arms. Again, it's all about pouring your power or strength instead of launching it. It's almost like the strikes are "falling" on your opponent instead of being "pushed" into them.

It's too bad nobody is showing the fighting application of Xingyi like you have... All people talk about training this art is to stand in 'ready' posture aka Santi. Keep up the good work!

Do you have any videos available of your techniques being used in a real self defense situation?
@ClearMartialArts
@ClearMartialArts 10 лет назад
Sigung Clear has taught self defense programs all over the country and a number of these students have been attacked and successfully defend themselves with what they learned from Sigung Clear. ...So far though, none of them have tried to get out a camera and film themselves while they where being attacked.

Have you ever been in a street fight with a rough dude?
@ClearMartialArts

I grew up in rough inner city neighborhoods. I have been attacked over 15 times and fought / defended myself from what most folks would consider some rough dudes.

Does anyone have any of his DVD?? Is it worth buying?? *For members only "Fightfast" company is selling Richard Clears DVD call "Tai Chi Death blow secrets" 2 disc for $97 + S&H. But watching this video of him teaching isn't convincing me to want to buy his DVD. IDK not for $97.

I have ALL of his DVDs. Is it worth it? Only if you want real Internal Power. Truth be told, if you want to be an Internal Martial Artist of any quality and you're sweating $97, then the first thing you should do is go get a real job, because in over thirty years of looking I have not found ANYONE else out there willing to teach THIS level of internal skill OPENLY and PUBLICLY, let alone for such an extraordinarily low price. This material would easily cost THOUSANDS of dollars and YEARS of your life to get it any other way from any other teacher.

Why are you trying to judge the quality of his Tai Chi instruction based on a Xingyi video? And why would you pick a single clip that is a tiny piece from the twelfth week of a much longer course? Put that together with the fact that you have obviously NEVER looked for any of this kind of material before (else you would not be balking at a meager $97 for it), and to me this all strongly indicates that you are not at all serious about high quality martial arts instruction, in which case you might as well find an activity more suited to a curious hobbyist. Personally I find knitting and origami to be quite enjoyable. They are both fairly easy to learn, and instruction is readily available for very cheap or even for free. This would be a much better use of time for someone who is not particularly interested in quality martial arts.

Study the 12 weeks of lessons that come before this one and it will make perfect sense. The skills you need to have before studying this lesson are listed in the video description.

+Vishnunarayanan Namboothiri You can't know what they will do so you must assume they will do the worst thing they can. ...but you do know what they CAN do. You must learn to control your position (using distancing, timing and awareness skills) so that their options are poor and yours are excellent.
