Knit a pumpkin on the LK 150 or Brother KX 350 knitting machine. This is a very simple pattern using Loops and Threads Impeccable yarn from Michael's but any worsted weight yarn could be substituted.

I made this it is adorable. For the stem I just made two icords on the machine one with 4 stitches and one with 5 stitches both with about 20 rows. Put the smaller one inside of the bigger one and attached it to pumpkin.
@AnnaHaferman
@AnnaHaferman 2 года назад
Sounds good. I thought about doing an I-cord stem starting with seven stitches at the bottom and reducing down to four, but I never got around to testing it out. I am going to try your method next.

@@AnnaHaferman I've knit an icord with 4 stitches and inserted some florists/garden rubber coated wire and it works really well.. its bendy! Saves messing around with glue.
@AnnaHaferman
@AnnaHaferman 2 года назад
@@carmelgahan3605 I considered wire but I didn't want anything potentially sharp inside the pumpkin in case children or pets got hold of it and thought it was a toy. If kids or dogs won't get it, the wire is a great solution.

@AnnaHaferman
@AnnaHaferman 2 года назад
Did you find the stem technique easy? I thought a lot about these stems trying to come up with something that looked realistic but was easy to make and inexpensive. I will be giving knit pumpkins out this fall as these are fun to make. You can vary the amount of stitches between the tuck needles and rows to make larger or smaller pumpkins. Also, they look nice in different colors.

The stem can also be a cinnamon stick.
@AnnaHaferman
@AnnaHaferman 2 года назад
Yes, you can use just about anything you like for the stem. The only cinnamon sticks I had were too small for this. I considered using twigs from the yard but decided on the yarn wrapping because I like the tapered shape I can get from it. Plus it's cheap and kind of fun to do.

I made the pumpkin tonight. Really clear video, so thank you very much. Do you have the instructions for the large and smaller ones? I.e. number of stitches to cast on and position of needles in hold? Thanks.
@AnnaHaferman
@AnnaHaferman 2 года назад
I can’t remember off hand but I will try to find the notes I made for this video. You can experiment by putting more or less stitches between the hold needles, and more or less rows. Pretty much any number will work because pumpkins can be all different sizes and shapes.

Hi Anna. Can you suggest needle arrangement for smaller pumpkins? I'd like to make some for my daughters' homes. Thanks!!
@AnnaHaferman
@AnnaHaferman Год назад
Hi Kim! In the one I showed, there are 12 stitches between each needle that gets held to make the tuck stitch. The ends have seven stitches each which equals 12 plus the two seaming stitches. So, if you want to make it smaller, you could have any number between the held needles. For instance, if you wanted eight stitches, you would cast on 28L to 28R, pull needles 5, 14, 23 on each side.

Do I use this cast on with all machines? I have a brother 260.
@AnnaHaferman
@AnnaHaferman 2 года назад
You can use the weaving cast-on the 260 or use the comb like in this video. It has to be something that will cinch up, so it can’t be e-wrap or crochet cast-on.

Please what's a pumpkin used for?
@AnnaHaferman
@AnnaHaferman 2 года назад
Hi, it's just for decoration. In the US, pumpkins (a type of squash) are autumn decorations, especially around Halloween and Thanksgiving.
@Pinkpartypieces
@Pinkpartypieces 2 года назад
Hi Anna, I wonder if you can add any advice, I tried to knit this, bought exactly the same yarn, set the same tension, but I had to put lots of weight on my yarn otherwise the work stayed too high, and every row I had to manipulate the work down, in-between the pumpkin shape bits, which meant it took so long to do. I am generally having this problem, and I've searched but cannot find an answer, Ive changed the sponge bar, oiled everything, changed needles,,, I'm about to Ebay the machine, help please :-) ??
@AnnaHaferman
@AnnaHaferman 2 года назад
Well, you definitely do need to put a lot of weight on it because a) It's tuck stitch, which requires a lot of weight, b) the yarn is on the thicker end of what this machine will take and c) I wanted this fabric to be firm so that it would hold the shape of the pumpkin. So, it's not your machine or you doing something wrong. Try your machine with a lighter yarn and see how that works.

@@Pinkpartypieces If you want to try a lighter yarn, the bubble beanie hat uses a DK weight Caron Skinny Cakes yarn. It comes wound into a big cake, so you don't even have to wind it. It's also tuck stitch and you will need to weight it down but the yarn will run through the machine easier.
