My electrician needed a couple of drivers made to help with driving sign posts into the ground. So I turn a 4.5" chunk of mystery steel into a couple of drivers for him. Some lathe work on the Monarch Model K lathe and some milling work on the Excello mill using the rotary table. I hope you enjoy the machining.

It's whatever gets the job done, right? Most of my cutting tools are imports - I've had good luck with anything I buy through Shars (for example). Random vendors through ebay and Amazon - not so much. It's all a balancing act of cost vs benefit I suppose. Cheers and best wishes!

That post material is Telespar. You drive a piece into the ground and a smaller piece telescopes into it and bolts in place. Allows sign mounting on both sides. We had a hydraulic driver at our sign shop.

Interesting job, Tom. I laughed when you said the part would be fairly loose tolerance, you know 0.025" per side and then demoed the current tool that looked like it had 0.250" per side. I've been there. Machinist loose is a really different animal when compared to the common usage of the expression.

Interesting video, I see the stud sticking out for the power hammer breaking off. I’m surprised you just didn’t make one tool. And have a blind hole for the power hammer bit to sit in. Look forward to your next video.

Some of them are from Durham Manufacturing I got from Amazon. They come empty and fill them up how you please. The brown ones I got from Lawsen.
