814 seems confident and relaxed, no aggressive behavior even though you walk in between him and his cows. Magnificent, stately example of the breeding program. Thanks for this one👌👍
This is why, so many other ranchers are envious and there’s no reason why they can’t be as, or more successful ! Great pasture and great animals go hand in hand.
@@c_turfgrass7773 Raised in the Metro outskirts of Detroit. Never saw forest lands ‘til 18. But all the farmland I’ve seen, looks like Sacrifice Lots. Golf Course Greens have more grass !

Our calves are looking good. One of our heifer calf looks fantastic. It’s a real gem. Our grass is starting to turn around. We got another three quarter inch the other day. Once we are done mowing our lawn, I’m going to put all the animals together, but I got to break the calves to hot wire and poly braid first. I’ll be on a stay vacation next week so I can keep an eye on the calves. Thanks again for everything you do!
I saw a bull advertised on Craig's list the other day. They were so proud he was an 8 frame score...I choked on my coffee. Very happy to have some 814 in my tank!!
Greg, your cattle do not look like this by accident or dumb luck, this is years of trial and error. You are reaping the benefits of blood sweat and tears, you more than deserve your success, rightly so...
What a chunk, maybe with the right management I can get ours looking close to that. We have gotten a half inch of rain since I was down there, very dry, we still have plenty of grass because of your advice. Thank you have a wonderful day.
Oh my gosh! I'm very worried! There is some kind of caterpillar on Ben's lip! I hope it doesn't bite him! I just find myself wanting to say "Dr. Livingstone, I presume...?" LoL. Sorry Ben, but I couldn't resist. In some ways it's gotta suck to have the whole world watching your every move!!! Heh.
BEAUTIFUL!!! GREG, what would you think of HIGHLANDER cattle? what about ROMANOV sheep? those are the two breeds i am thinking about, other then some/few laying hens and honey bees to round out my dream farm
As long as you have a direct market for them and do not have to bring them into an auction barn. The Highlander cattle have quite a bit of hair, so if you have hot summers, they will need shade.
The Highlander market has been crazy so you might be paying quite a bit to get good breeding stock. You may also have to look harder for good quality since everyone is breeding them like crazy because they were selling like hotcakes. It may be harder to judge their condition with all that hair.
Greg, I know you wrote a book on how you got started and how to get leased land. Correct me if I am wrong, but you have not invested in much farm equipment as I understand. I would like to read about your operation so please send me the direction where I can learn the most from you. What ever happen with Cody that you used to do work with from Norwood? I know he wrote a book on ranching 3 hours per day, I found it on Amazon today. My goal is to build me a retirement plan over the next five years were I work my current job and get everything set up in good order so when I walk away I could stay home and garden and raise my cattle like you do. With you raising red cattle instead of black do you get a price deduction when selling since they are not black cattle? Anyway any information you can share would be great.
Hey Greg! Any thoughts on the Galloway cattle breed? Also, I haven’t been able to find a Breeder yet that doesn’t do pour on dewormers. Should I not buy from someone that does this practice since I don’t want to use dewormers?!
You and Gabe brown have been a huge inspiration for me to turn my operation regenerative. But I just can’t bring my land back from the dead with no rain… it’s very heartbreaking for me but God has brought me through 4 years of drought so far in Manitoba. There’s always rain at the end of a drought and I’m sure looking forward to it.
awesome red smooth skin good height & length heifers , cows , bulls & claves # i love this smooth skin breed 1000 times more than Angus hairy skin breed # What breed is this ????
Oh,YES ...HE IS BEAUTIFUL,VERY MACHO ...YOU SHOULD HAVE A NAME FOR YOUR BRED CATTLE ,CUZ YOU HAVE INHANSED THE REGULAR BREED SO MUCH THAT I DO BELIEVE IT CAN BE ANOTHER BREED ...OR AN UPGRADE OF ORIGINAL THAT CAN HAVE ADDED NAME TO IT TO GET IT RE-REGISTERED!!! JUST A THOUGHT ,BUT YOU SURE HAVE IMPROVED WHAT YOU STARTED WITH ...N FORGIVE ME FOR NOT KNOWING IT ,IF YOU HAVE ALREADY DONE A NAME CHANGE OF SORTS TO CARRY WITH THEM WHERE THEY GO !!! T,Y, LOVE TO SEE WELL BRED ANIMALS !!!
Greg, I've watched your channel for a while and I also raise grass-fed beef with a red Angus base. I just wondered how you know which calves are 814's sons with a herd that size and turning so many bulls out? Surely you don't DNA test every calf? Interested to hear how you keep track of your genetics in that system. Thanks.
@@gregjudyregenerativerancher I only asked because you said in the video that you had some of his sons. I assumed you didnt really know what was out of him. Thanks.
Your right, as long as the cattle herd looks like they do today, I'm not changing anything. We had a farm tour of seasoned cattleman fmwalk thru our herd and all they could say was it was the best looking herd of cattle they had ever seen in their life.
It's called linebreeding. Look at the cows in our herd, do they look like animals that perform.on grass? Absolutely, with linebreeding your stacking good genetics ontop of good genetics.
