It was a dream come true for this South African. First heard about it when I was 12. Saw pictures. Read so much about the Inca. Then, in my late 30s, I finally saw this for myself. I get a bit tearful watching this. It was a huge dream for me. It happened.

Not the oldest at all, it was built around 1450 AD during the reign of Sapa Inca Pachacuti, Tiwanaku predates the Incas by centuries, it’s capital was build c. 500 AD. Then you have the Mayans with many of their cities being built as far back c. 200 BC and the olmecs with buildings as ancient as 1500 BC, with some probably even older. Many more to list but the point is Incas were around much, much later than other ancient civilizations in the Americas.

For those who are interested in the topic of polygonal masonry. A number of methods for obtaining the polygonal masonry are proposed. The basis of the proposed methods is the use of clay/gypsum replicas, a topography translator, and reduced clay models of the stone blocks along with a 3D-pantograph. Fui a Machu Picchu en el 2016 y fue muy emocionante!!! Despacito, despacito, aún con una insuficiencia cardíaca como tengo, logré llegar a la cima de la montaña. Todavía conservo la mantita blanca de lana de alpaca que me compré en un mercado en el que nos contaban como las tejían y hacían la tinta para teñir la lana. Un abrazo desde Uruguay 🤗

Fui este verano a Perú de voluntariado y dediqué unos días a visitar el país. Sinceramente no me esperaba lo bonito que iba a ser Machupichu, las fotos y vídeos no le hacen justicia. La montaña de colores y el lago Humantay también fueron increíbles. Tienen además una cultura increíble y todos son muy majos con los turistas. Nunca había ido a Sudamérica pero volvería encantada

Cuando pase todo esto y sea seguro viajer lo visitare por quinta vez , la energía que siento allí es inexplicable ....es conmovedora .....a los que viajan , les aconsejo buscar un lugar tranquilo cierren los ojos 2 minutos y respiren profunda y lentamente y podran experimentar un algo unico , luego se toman las fotos que quieran.

I went there last year and it’s an amazing place and a good adventure. I recommend staying at least three days in Machu Picchu Pueblo and this treasure. Also, I recommend spending a few days at Cusco.

I hope to visit Machu Picchu myself one day (would be amazing to shoot 180 - 3D and 360 video there so you can really immerse yourself in the city). Amazing how skilled they were back in the days with building techniques (when you see how perfectly the rocks and stones fit in the walls and other structures). Even in 2020 we would have a hard time in making straight stones out of rock probably without all machines that are used in the modern age.

Machu Picchy: Mind-blowing stonework, megalithic structures, precision engineering, fully functioning system of hydraulics, anti seismic and anti-flooding terracing and trapezoidal forms, steep and death defying roads, astronomical observatory, all built on a sharp mountain crest in the clouds in the most extreme geography of the largest mountain chain in the world and in complete harmony with the natural surroundings. Had the city all to myself for a morning in 1977. Stayed the night in the little hotel on top with only a half dozen others. Was up early before anyone, and before the buses arrived, walked the ruins in complete solitude. Climbed Huayna Picchu during the day to avoid the bus groups, which back then were small anyway, and returned to have the city to myself late afternoon into the evening. A magical place, still best captured by Pablo Neruda's poem.

Los que van con intenciones turísticas llegan sin problemas pero los que intentamos llegar para saciar nuestra sed espiritual tenemos serios obstáculos antes de poner un pie en ese lugar. Yo estuve 3 años enteros intentando y siempre había obstáculos. Cuando finalmente pise ese suelo todo cambió en mi vida vida. Fue una experiencia transformadora, ya nunca más volveré a ser el mismo.

It is a true WONDER OF THE WORLD, a melancholic place, because it takes you back centuries ago and leaves you wondering how they did it, but it is the imposing mountains around it that call out your tears and thanking a creator that you probably don't even acknowledge. I agree. I've seen the pyramids at Giza, Chichen Itza, and other spectacular places, even the Masai Mara in Kenya for safari, but there's something mystical about this place. I have plans on returning - it is magical!
