I wish i knew more about jiu jitsu. It's like watching a surgeon I definitely appreciate the talent and i can tell if someones dying, but I'm missing a lot of the technical aspects.
Sport bjj is aesthetically ugly, overly complicated and not self defense oriented. I'd rather grapple with sub only and with an emphasis on takedowns and top position , way more applicable to self defense/MMA and way more fun
Bran ate Jojen paste lol if you think jiu jitsu doesn’t come in handy with defense your trippin. Also it’s not overly complicated, theres ALOT to learn when it comes to jiu jitsu. Theres people on this planet that have and continue to practice this martial art on the daily sometimes multiple times a day that’ll completely dismantle you. I suggest you give it a try sometime if you haven’t already. Also find a good gym you like where your comfortable and enjoy it. You may find yourself liking one gym more than the other.
@Asspop87 Tell that to Curran Jacobs -- arguably one the greatest catch wrestlers on the planet right now -- who recently got demolished by Quentin Rosenzweig (a frankly so-so BJJ practitioner who isn't even a big name in competitive circles)... in a catch wrestling match. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UgtCHMhIo6M.html Catch is a great art and has its place and there are definitely niches where it handily outperforms BJJ, but umbrella statements like yours are silly and serve no purpose.
@@CrazeeFy A lot of people find sport BJJ a joy to watch. I'm not one of them aside from the occasional highlight, but they're out there. Overly complicated is, again, subjective... and frankly a weird complaint to make. That just means it's highly-technical if you ask me. I would agree that it's not self-defense-oriented, but I don't think that every martial art has to justify itself through the lens of its value in a street fight or MMA bout. No more than, say, collegiate wrestling does. Ironically collegiate wrestling probably better equips one to deal with altercations than pure sport BJJ you could argue, but you get my point -- that's purely by chance. It's a sport at the end of the day. A lot of the guys I've trained with/talked to actually said that they found the sporty side of things a lot more fun than the self-defense part and that they couldn't give two shits about the latter. I'm the other way around, but again, everyone's interests are different. Martial arts are a personal journey. And when you get right down to it, even the most butt-scootiest, guard-pulling Blue Belt you can find could *probably* bend an untrained rando into a pretzel and/or choke them unconscious in a street fight if need be. After all, you see a lot of the sport meta and competitors transferring over into MMA right now, especially with the leg locks. Just food for thought. I'm personally a guy who favors the self-defense side of things (with a heavy emphasis on takedowns and top control) due to the work I plan on going into. If I compete in the future, it will be largely for the live practice and a bit of fun. But I think it's important to recognize that not everyone feels the same way as we do on the subject.
Mackenzie won because Gabi Garcia was given the penalty at the start of the match for talking to the ref, saying that she should get points for the takedown. You're welcome.
what martial arts is this? in the video the end fight garcia was in dominant situation and raising her hand, how come dern won? is the video clip shortened?
A couple things to take away here besides size advantage. First, it’s weird to see that Gabi Garcia is it fighting Japanese grandmas. Second, I am happy the McKenzie can finally communicate in her native tongue of Portuguese with her opponent. 😉
If you look at how Dern handled this lady who is God knows how many pounds heavier, and she could only get and advantage on her (not a point), I think that was a win for Dern.
@@redeyenomore why do you say that? In a purely Jj match? Jon is a blue belt and Conor is a brown belt. I’m not saying your wrong I’m just curious why you say that with such confidence?
I am afraid that Gabi deserves disrespect because here she is fighting a woman half her size. Also, when you see Gabi's muscles, she is obviously a long term steroid abuser.
dehdeh55 only ever failed a test once for birth control i believe, never pissed hot for roids and this is open weight buddy. Not a gabi fan but its not her fault she intimidates you.
Yea its like if ur already a giant women y not try ur luck see how far ur own giant God gifted body takes ya... she says nahhhh ill just take some shit that makes ur fuckin head grow
Reminds me of some of Fedor's early fights in Pride fighting guy's literally twice his size or larger. Only difference there was someone could have been killed. Here nothing seems to happen. I keep seeing people say Gabi took a penalty so she lost, but she never really did anything to Mackenzie so what was the penalty for? If anything that was a draw. Pretty incredible though, Mackenzie is 100lbs. lighter and a lot of Mackenzie's weight is in great looking female curves not stacked muscle. Gabi on the other hand doesn't really even resemble a female and is built like a linebacker. It's more then just size, it's a total different body construct. The fact that Mackenzie wasn't immediately flattened out and submitted shows her skill is on a whole 'nother level.
I think it has to do with being more active. Gabi was defending a lot more than Mackenzie. Mac was throwing more submissions while Gabi was just sitting on her and defending. I could be wrong.
I suppose McKenzie won cause she was a little bit more active, she did more submission attempts. And Gabi just need to compete with men like 10kg less then her. This is the way where her technique can be seen... just my opinion.
judy barcenas In the beginning of the match Dern tried for a submission. She got Garcia's leg in a lock. She wasn't able to submit her but that attempt was the one and only attempt by either of them the entire time. Also, around the 15 second mark, Garcia was given a strike for an illegal hold. During the entire match Garcia was unable to get past Derns guard to even attempt to consider a submission. That shows the judges how skilled Dern is. The judges felt that someone of Garcia's size and strength should have easily been able to submit little Dern, but she was unable to. So the match was awarded to Dern.
Dern is an amazing athlete and is getting better every day. Gabbi looks like the pile of steroids the WWF threw in the dumpster. Jujitsu deserves better than to have cheaters in 50% of the sport.
not really, because she essentially lifted Dern off the mat at 3:29. after a scramble Dern simply ended up where she was before the move was initiated. so it's not a takedown.
at around 20 seconds into the video, Gabi gets a penalty for something, they both have their backs to the camera so we can’t see why, probably an ilegal grip. After that it’s basically Dern trying to get some offense going but getting heavy smashed. No points were scored but the penalty against Gabi was enough.
