Why don't these companies use power on off buttons? So annoying to plug and unplug all the time
@mackietv

The Mix 5 does not have a 48V phantom power option. It will however work if you use an outboard phantom power box to power your condenser microphone. We have attached a link to the owners manual so that you can take a look at all of the specs for this mixer. Hope that this helps.Manual link - supportloudtech.netx.net/loud-public/#category/15253

For sending audio out of this mixer into a computer, we would strongly recommend an audio interface. The Onyx Producer 2•2 is great for getting two channels into a computer. mackie.com/products/onyx-series-usb-interfaces

I already use this to hear audio from my two pcs, it's wonderful for that. What I'm curious about though is if the Microphone plugged into this can then work for being picked up on a pc. If I plug my microphone into the XLR and plug a proper "Dual 6.35mm to 3.5mm" cable into the Main Out on this and the Microphone Jack on my PC. Will my pc pick up the audio from the mic alone so I can use it for recording or streaming?

Would a TRS to 3.5mm cable plugged into a computer work? I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm just trying to record my electric ukulele.
@mackietv
@mackietv 8 лет назад
You could come out of the headphone with TRS and into your computers recording input with the 3.5mm. Yes, that would work. At some point, you should consider an external recording interface for higher quality recordings. Something like the Mackie Blackjack or similar is a relatively cost-effective way to record at home. If you need more detailed help getting a recording running, be sure to reach out to our tech support team who is happy to help: mackie.com/support-contact

Hi, you specify this mixer as 5 channels, however, these are not all independent when applying effects, right? Because for channels 2/3 and 4/5 there is the same set of effects applied to both channels. Thanks.

The manual in the box and the online manual and this video all omit this question: how do you turn it on? Where is the power button or knob? The manuals answer the question only by way of a picture of the Mix8, and there is no apparent way to translate the point to the Mix5.

Can the first input XLR be used to feed a monitor mix from the board? Or is it recommended to use the mono line in jack? I'm considering the mix5 to use as personal mixer before my in-ear monitors, where I would use channel 1 to receive a mono monitor mix from the board, and use channel 2/3 line for my guitar modeller, then going either wired to my in-ears via the headphone out or use the main out to go into my wireless in-ear transmitter.

Does the following set-up make sense: guitar, bass, mic > mixer > effect pedal chain > looper pedal > output to guitar or bass amp. Would this work, and if so, is it ok to use a guitar amp as the output even when playing bass? Right now when building layers using my loop pedal, I have to turn everything off, change cords around when I want to switch instruments- hoping a mixer will make it easier to do this! thx :D
@mackietv
@mackietv 4 года назад
Main issues would be: 1. You’ll need to have direct boxes for the guitar and bass. 2. Your output to the pedals/amp will be very hot and an impedance that may really mess with your sound a good amount. 3. Using the guitar amp for bass is ok, the bigger factor is the speaker cabinet that will determine how it sounds. Typically guitar cabinets are lower power handling and are not designed to output a lot of low end. So try and avoid blowing the speakers. Overall it’s a tricky setup that is going to breaking some audio gear rules.
@averylane112
@averylane112 4 года назад
@@mackietv Thanks. 1) What do you mean by "direct boxes for the guitar and bass"? ; 2) From what you said, it seems like the main problem with what I described is using an amp as the output. So what would be a better alternative here?
@mackietv
@mackietv 4 года назад
Have you tried getting an instrument switcher pedal? You could use something like this www.radialeng.com/product/bigshot-io for the instruments and use a DI between the switcher and mixer. You would then plug your mic directly into the mixer. Then you would plug the output of the mixer into something like this www.radialeng.com/product/prormp to convert it to instrument level, then from that into the looper. Then out of the looper in your amp. If you use a ProFXv3 mixer, you won't need a DI between the switcher and mixer because it has switches built in to accommodate the instrument level. This would be ideal for best maintaining the fidelity of your sound and minimizing noise while getting the expected behavior out of your gear. As far as the best amp for the job, short of using a powered PA loudspeaker, you’ll just want to make sure you’re not putting too much strain on the speakers.

How I Connect this to my computer?
@rogeliolopez2190
@rogeliolopez2190 4 года назад
You would need to get a USB interface like a Focusrite Scarlett solo or a bringer uphoria um2. The um2 comes in at around 45 bucks and i would recommend it over the Scarlett for one reason. Reason: it does produce more self noise ( white noise in the background) compared to the Scarlett but only when you turn up the gain. but since the Mackie Mix 5 has a built in preamp, all you have to do is set the Um2 to the lowest gain possible before cutoff and set the master volume (not the gain) on the Mix 5 until to the point were you get a strong signal in the behringer but not too high that the clipping light in the um2 turns on. you might have to turn up the gain on the um2 if the signal isnt high enough. Hope this works!

Is the mix5 good for recording rap songs? I ordered one this past Saturday And if you can, will I need a USB plug with the mic and headphones jacks?
@mackietv
@mackietv 8 лет назад
+Fork&SpoonTS It won't connect directly to a computer for recording. You'd need to go into a recording interface that hooked up to your computer. If you only need a couple of inputs like the Mix5, look at something like the Mackie Onyx Blackjack instead.
@trollking3329
@trollking3329 8 лет назад
+MackieTV but will it still do the job?
@mackietv
@mackietv 8 лет назад
+Fork&SpoonTS It won't record anything without an audio interface. So, by itself, it won't do the job. You can plug a mic in, some speakers in and get sound. But, to record you need a device that connects to your computer (most use USB) and can be recognized by recording programs like Logic or Garageband, etc.

How would I set this up with a Behringer UCA202 audio interface?
@mackietv
@mackietv 8 лет назад
+TheMillimil The easiest connection would be to come out of the TAPE OUTS on the Mix5 using RCA cables and go into the INPUTS on the UCA202. The TAPE OUTS will reflect the main mix on the Mix5. So, anything you do on the mixer will be captured.
