Dude this morning arrived a iMac G5 i bougt for us$100 with non working combodrive (Ejecting the disc) and fixed in about 10 minutes with your video!!! Now It reads!!! Tanks!!!
That's crazy. I would have never expected this to work. I have been looking for a used superdrive to replace my faulty one for months and just now i happen to find this video and it just works. Thank you so much!
Awesome video. I managed to clean the lens twice by taking the mini apart, but it still does not work. It takes a disk for maybe 20-30s seconds, and then ejects it every single time. Do you have any other recommendation? Would I need to replace the entire drive? It's odd it seems it tries to work by keeping the disk in there so long before ejecting it. Thanks for your help and video
I did similar but wrapped a screen wipe around a credit card and gently moved the card left and right in the slot until dirty, swapped to a cleaner wipe did it again. The next thing I know the drive is reading discs again!
Just what I need..I hope. My optical doesn't read and I've been getting away with an external. But, while trying to setup bootcamp, the setup froze. When I rebooted, I only see an apple logo and the circle with a slash. Booting holding the option does nothing.
