The AMDF Mind, Body, Spirit series offers tools for living with macular degeneration.
In this episode, we talk with Doreen Holmes, the first legally blind certified yoga instructor in the U.S. She tells the story of her macular degeneration diagnosis, how yoga helped her deal with the diagnosis, and how she came to be a yoga instructor for the visually impaired. And then she walks us through a simple chair yoga exercise!
Some highlights in the video:
At 2:49 Doreen tells us about her AMD diagnosis and the depression.
At 4:28 Doreen tells us about her early days learning yoga with low vision and how she went from student to teacher.
At 6:40 we hear about how much more Doreen had to learn about teaching yoga to the visually impaired from the students themselves.
And at 16:40 Doreen walks us through a 15 minute chair yoga routine you can do at home.
Filmed from the safety of our homes during COVID! :-)
