Thanks for using the equipment before reviewing it. I no not care for it, when people get products out of the mailbox and immediately review it. I appreciate your views, and bring forth worth with your viewers. Rare to find these days.
They look like a great boot. I too have the Salomon 4D and like them a lot but agree with the break in and they trash my big toe after about 10-15k. Their GR1 pack is one of the best built I’ve ever used.
I bought the 8 inch macv-2 and love them. The only problem I found is that the plastic heel cup dug into my ankle bone pretty bad. Luckily, I was able to take them out with a little effort, and now they're perfect.
Thank you DC for the review. I've been looking into these boots and glad I came across your review with your prior military background and experience with walking and hiking. I'll certainly be investing with GoRuck.
I have had both the original black leather and coyote suede for well over two years. My primary is the coyote due to the color and my personal style. In city, wooded, wet, and dry environments I have upwards of 300 miles on the coyote and 100-150 on the black. Neither boot shows signs of wear other than one delamination type event on the back of the coyotes. But after this many miles, who’s going to complain about that? Seriously the most comfortable ruck/everyday boot I have ever worn and is my daily go to no matter what I’m wearing or the season.
I have a pair with over 1000 miles on them, October will be a year with them and I absolutely love them, I agree with everything said here except the break in time. I have wide feet and it took a painful 20 miles to break them in. Now I wouldn’t trade them in for anything
You know Dave your reviews are the best I have seen. I like seeing your gear beat up used. That is respect and honestly!! I can trust a real man to follow that is never lost just don't know wear the fuck you going too you get there.
I got my GoRuck boots. Took them out in the Arizona desert this morning. They are not suitable for loose granite and steep hills with rocks. They turned into roller skates and I busted my ass today. They are fine on level terrain and hard surfaces. Not recommended for desert trails or Bush whacking. I will try to get a pair with the knew sole when they come out..
Hey Dave you Veteran laced both these pair of boots with the first pass on top so the corpsman can get his cutting shears under, and then left over right. somethings just become a part of you forever. Only thing that would be more salty would be to have a single dog tag in the lace grommet of the left boot.
These look awesome! They didn't have 12s in for the MACV-1 so I just dropped a preorder for the 8" boots! I've always wanted some panama sole jungle boots and will probably own a pair but these sound like a nice modern alternative. Shame they don't ship till the end of January. I'm planning to hike all winter. Oh well, dems da brakes.
You have given those shoes a great review and I have to look for a pair of boots like those and also a pair of rain boots for wearing around home during wet weather.
I took a job with DuPont at their research place in Brockton Ma. Wood last is what they wrap the fabric in and with the build up of the war they were running out of wood so they tried to go with plastic. Little did I know I would be in Nam and never put one and one until they did a video like the one above. I was also in MACV.
I have had my MACV‐1's for a year now, and only recently found one flaw. The traction is lacking when you really need to dig in i.e. steep hills, or up hill low crawls. I have used them though out the fall, winter, spring, and summer. If you are not a foot dragger the soles hold up great. The socks that I use are Injinji midweight socks in them.
Thanks for the Honest review. I'll have to check them out. I've played sports and have always had jobs that I was on my feet. My Family will not go shoe shopping with me because it takes me forever. I will not buy any type of footwear that requires breaking in. If it it has to be broken in, it's the wrong shoe.
I have not been able to find a comfortable boot in 10 years at least and I’ve looked. I’m 55 years old, wear a 10.5 US wide sneaker and am flat footed. Almost any arch support will put me on the ground walking from my house to get in my work van. Do these come in a configuration that would accommodate me. Thanks
Good info I have been looking for a boot for both camping and hiking and training in between I will give them a try. How close is the size to what you normally wear?
Had these boots for about 6 months. The uppers are great. love the soft leather and extra room in the toe box. The soles, unfortunately, have a lot of room for improvement. ( I have the updated version) The built-in shock absorption is terrible. I replaced the absurdly thick insole because it was hurting my arches, and now I can feel the shock of every step. I feel like the insole was the only thing absorbing shock. Also, the rubber soles slip like crazy on any kind of wet surface, even concrete. It's bad. I wouldn't trust these for any kind of serious endeavor. The 13mm heel-to -toe drop is a bit much. Makes the boot feel awkward and clunky. Kind of kills the otherwise light and nimble feel of the boot. It's a shame, they'd be great boots otherwise. WIsh they would add more shock absorbing material to the midsole and use Vibram for the outsole.
I've been waiting for what I consider a reliable review to come through on these boots. Would you consider these boots as an option not for just Rucking but for self reliance? Thank you Dave.
I have been looking at these, I have been needing something I can get wet without worry that they will fall apart. I been running the Salomon quest GTX, they are about worn out now, they have been decent, but I have refrained from intentionally getting them wet which is limiting. These might just fit the bill.
I have wide feet, looking at that bump out in the pinky toe area would be a big plus for me. I will look into this boot. I have to this point had to buy a half to one size larger to get a toe box that fit, but then it rubs on my heel. That was my big issue with Saloman boots/trail runners they were too narrow in the toe.
I haven't read all the comments, but I would like to know about sizing. If you wear thicker socks, what are they made of and from whence do they come? How do you describe the sizes? With or without the commensurate socks when sizing?
I've noticed that with most boots, they tend to wear out on the inside heal then proceed to tear up your socks. How have these boots fared on the inside? I also wear out the outside corners of the heels. How tough are the soles of these boots and is it possible to add some type of compensation to the problem area? What are the best socks to wear in wet environments?
Spoil yer feet, get decent boots. Money you'll never regret. Though as always, more expensive means they cost more, not necessarily better. I spent about 125$ in 1990ish, for a pr of merril's. I wore them out. My army bots, once broken in, i wore as a daily till they wore out. loved them. I had a pr of Nike high tops from about 1986 or so(hated the color of white) ,, wore them for years till the soles wore through. the tops were scratched, but perfect, it killed me to toss them as I couldnt imagine them being resoled. SOCKS are crucial! Buy and wear good ones. "Your welcome". peace
I wonder if Hercules putty would work for temporarily sealing the drain holes. Be a small addition to your pack while adding a lot more versatility and its reusable. Great content.
This boot is built more for speed than durability. That cheap insole combined with the light weight EVA midsole will only last maybe 500 miles - depending how hard you are on shoes.
The common man CAN NOT afford $195 for no pair of boots. Wish we could but these are the facts. Time to bring this back down for the avg guy. Just cant, no.
