Sisonke Msimang, I really like your presentation. May i add and make it clear that Africa is a Continent and my Country is Africa, so that makes me an African. I am also Mad at Mandela for the same reasons that you pointed out. I thank you for making it very clear here. Africa must Unite, must be our slogan! African Unity must be our Symbol! Pan Africanism must be our Eco-Political system.

Brilliant talk. You raised issues that very few dare to even consider. I wish everyone one was this woke !

Here is the thing, how many South Africans are aware of this facts? How many South Africans have watched this?

A very interesting and in my opinion a brave thing to discuss. Mandela is kind of a big deal but I do agree with most of what she has said.

A friend of mine introduced me to TED. He told me it is based on research and ideas that are worth sharing. This talk is opinion filled. I don't get the idea.

I think everyone needs to take personal responsibility in the roles that they played to result in the South Africa we have today because we are nearly 30 years out of apartheid and things have gotten worse in another 30 years South Africa will be just like Nigeria or Somalia if this continues

I lived in the Eastern Cape since '95 after the change of government, manufactured and exported and made a very good product at a profit by the way. I brought millions of dollars into the country and employed a lot of people. I think this girl is missing the points that matter most. The problem is not really the white people and in fact perhaps just the opposite in most cases. Most but not all white S. Africans are hardworking and decent. The real problem in Southern Africa is dishonesty, theft, home and car breakins, carjackings, terrible violent crime, corruption and incompetence as well as quite a poor work ethic which is worse among black African men than women who often take work more seriously with a more positive attitude (generally). Crime got much worse in the time I was there and rapidly by the way. While there, a lot of whites emigrated to NZ, Australia, Canada and England, the loss hurt a lot, there was a significant brain drain. Drugs are a problem, AIDS is huge, promiscuity is pretty incredible. Four young black people I knew personally died of AIDS it was very hard to see that and it's still painful to think about, one girl was only 24. I moved to Maputo more for adventure than anything else and lived with my local girlfriend for a few years, crime rose there rather quickly as well when drugs began to flow in from S. Africa via primarily (but not exclusively) Nigerian controlled criminals and it hurt Moz quickly and badly. I miss Africa very much in ways but S. Africa has become a pretty rough, it's a fact. Blaming everything on racism misses the big picture and I don't believe it's the root cause of S. Africa's deterioration. Law and order is a joke, I didn't know any black African people who didn't cheat on their mate, trust is a big weakness in dealing with just about anything. Whereas when dealing with Muslim Indians in Mozambique, I could make an arrangement and they'd come thru, S. African whites were THE glue that held most ALL business together, Chinese in Africa are mostly good to deal with as are German expats. I did clean and straight business in Africa, period. Culturally I like Africans in a lot of ways and enjoy spending time with them day in day out but the constant need to defend against theft and never ever being able to trust financially, as I learned, wears you down.. it's a wipeout for good prosperity. Nobody local ever pays anyone back without an ordeal if at all, a huge, huge problem. Moz police try to shake you down sometimes several times in one day while driving! I'm back in Taiwan, it's so vastly different, so much more fundamentally honest, you can take commercial integrity for granted mostly and in personal issues as well. I'd like to return to Africa in the future and will but I know very well that it's a rough place, I lived like a king but most people didn't. I encountered endless jealousy about money, lifestyle and about my lovely black girlfriend. Oh well. I still love Africa but I'm not as idealistic about it, believe me, you can't be trusting and you can't expose yourself without consequence, even death. S. Africa needs a good dose of moral standards and black people need to own up to that in order to prosper. The crime is the destroyer. But it's such a beautiful, beautiful country.

Well spoken, Mandela would be proud of you, it is necessary to address the race issues, with empathy in hope that one day we could truly live together in harmony and trust that we are one.

We Africans are too quick to dismiss the atrocities of the white Nan against us! We assume they will change or will feel remorse for their sins, but that is an illusion! Our leaders forget the clear message of Kwame Nkrumah! This world will not like Africa, ever! We must realise that, and begin to love ourselves, for we only have each other! We need to recognise our wounds and start the healing process! That healing won’t come from trying to be friends with the west , thinking because we forgave them, they will change towards us! They won’t ever! The day they stop treating us the way they do, becomes the day they goes into oblivion! It is up to us Africans today, to heed the clarion call of our pan- African leaders and love ourselves!

SO.... A spouse who was cheated on and wants to try and save a marriage, should apparently talk about it everyday, remind everyone that they were betrayed and for the next 23 years carry that grudge and lash out at their spouse at every opportunity as a constant reminder of what they did wrong. According to this talk, that will save the marriage? - OR - That spouse could maybe speak out on their pain, forgive and try their best to accept that the past should be left behind and that a new path should be found. Which approach is most likely to end in success???
