Only in England! The white cliffs of Dover are made of crumbly, weather worn chalk. They can only be climbed with ice axes. Constantly sending big balls of chalk onto your parter counts for fun round these parts!
Ian Parnell and Chris Cubitt want to tackle the awesome route, 'Great White Fright' but it is Chris's first bold adventure after a serious accident that left him with a cracked pelvis. Will they be able to finish the crumbly, inconsistent route?
Director: Sandy Oglivie
Producer: Richard Heap
Athletes: Ian Parnell, Chris Cubbitt

This starts off as some dudes doing some sketchy climbing, but ends up being a story of a man who overcomes his fear, through the help of a good friend. Excellent short.

3:19 Ian Parnell gives credit to Mick Fowler the climber who first climbed the route. At this height sure it's dangerous but chalk is generally quite nice to climb on.

When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was an ice climbing video. Surprise!! Holy crap! This shit is insanity, and not in a good way. Interesting to watch, never to do, and that's the end of it.

I don't understand these guys. What is the point of thrashing these beautiful cliffs with an ice axe?? The cliffs have been there for millions of years - and now Hey! Look at me! I am here and I am not affraid to smash it! Story of overcoming one's fear? Well...ok, but nothing inspiring for in this one for me.

I thought one of the rules of climbing was not to alter the wall that you are climbing apart from some gardening... That does not look very ecological neither sustainable.
@michdudeada

You have got to remember though, if the rock was that easily altered then it means the next heavy rainfall or frost etc would almost certainly remove the entirety of what they just took off anyway, and that the routes on The White Cliffs of Dover are very infrequently climbed.

Also that's not always the rules of climbing. Use of pitons is still quite common practice with mixed climbing where you are dealing with choss anyway. Choss is in a constant state of flux whether it's from climbers or the elements. It's not like this is granite that might stay the same for thousands of years.
