I've not had one for a while, but by far the best supermarket curries I've had was from the deli counter at Asda. Their vindaloo actually tastes like a real vindaloo - something you'll never experience in a British "Indian" restaurant.
Those ingredients looked spot on! Very authentic, and the chicken had a nice char look too. Great budget meal, like you say, chips, nan bread, poppadoms can be added. Nice cheap dinner. Great review as always Gareth. 👌👍😊
Heron foods is a real basic retail concept about the opposite end of the spectrum from Mark's and Spencers. I like their honesty and working class locations. It's a bit like a British mini Lidl. You won't find stupid stuff like Beef in truffle sauce or Ostrich steaks like our delusional little Co-op.
@@davidtemple5934 Morrisons just recently bought out/rescued Mcollls shops. Our shop on our estate was Mcolls but turned into a Morrisons local about 3 years ago, I think they must’ve started it back then because the workers there still worked for Mcolls, but with Morrisons products in. The owners of Euro garages bid for it but thankfully lost out
@@davidtemple5934 Yes, B&M own Heron. The Heron stores and business model does not seem to have changed and from it's roots in Yorkshire has a very efficient business model in the basics food sector, with relatively small outlets.

I think farm foods / heron foods are definitely the under rated gems of the frezzer atm and are a better quality and price point than Icelands who seem to be attaching themselves to big names and dropping the ball with there more budget friendly value meals in both price and taste 👍
That is the best looking TV dinner out of a carton, and out of a microwave I think I have ever seen. No nasty ingredients as well, that's makes a refreshing change, with a price that is right. Glad you enjoyed. All the best.

Eight boxes in fact, so she bought the lot! Will try them out this evening and will let you know what we think.. Welcome to the world of heron lol. Glad you tried it. This range of meals can be very hit and miss. Luckily you got a hit. Some of them come with one large piece of chicken and the chicken is weird and not the nicest. It works better microwaved as pieces of chicken. Good video as always. There's a BBQ one and a tikka masala that comes with one large piece of chicken I think. Iceland have an extra hot tikka masala. I've got one in the freezer having it tonight.

I'm not an eater of rice or spicy food but I have to commend that there are still meals out there at great prices for those who like that kind of thing.
WOW a real bargain that looks and according to you tastes great. Add a bit more rice and some poppadoms you got a meal for 2 for less than £2.50. In these days of inflation we need more recommendations like this. Keep up the good work 😃.
I had never heard of Heron Foods so had to Google my nearest store... 😞Sadly, I'm in London and the nearest ones are near Cambridge or Luton. They are owned by B&M, but I have not seen the Heron brand stocked in any of their stores (which seems a logical cross-over to me ?).
I'll give it a go, as long as there's no heron in it ! Saw one in the main dock in Burry Port recently. It was standing on one leg, a bit like my ex wife when handed a cloth, ready to sprint away.
Definitely gunna try this. There is loads of stuff that we like from Heron. We love the frozen Cooplands pies, sausage rolls etc. So glad you tried this. Well worth the money 👍😋
Hi Gareth I’ve missed a few videos lately so I’m just busy catching up lol, I’ve just had this tonight and I must say I was very pleased with it 👍 😁 i cooked it in the microwave so it was quick & easy, it had plenty chunks of chicken and was well worth the money, definitely buying some more! 👌😊

I will pick a couple of these up I'm due for a visit to Heron the one I use has it's own free parking for customer's which is of course a Brucie bonus in these uncertain times. It certainly looks edible and a decent portion at 500 gram some of these ready meals have as little as 325 gram which is no good to me
looks nice that.. we have no heron foods here .. the iceland chicken madraS is in my opinion better than adsa sainsbury tesco marks etc... it comes as a madras tray only but they also sell 6 steam bags of frozen rice 3 min micro wave... comes out perfect rice too.... 6 bags 2.60 with a 2.00 madras and its verryyyyy good... dont get the beef ones though they are tasty but tough beef...if you havent tried that it will blow you away...
Will you try the fruity chicken curry by princes? I got a can today from home bargains, £1.09 . They do mild and hot, I got hot...It's not hot just got a nice background warmth to it. It's 41% chicken and got some seriously big chunks in it, I think it's like old fashioned chip shop curry with the raisins in it, sweetness and consistency. I was blown away for the money and amount of meat....well done princes....spot on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gaz you have to try that chicken jalfrezi and rice meal from M&S. In the Indian food chilled section. It's stunning. As close as you'll get to a good takeaway curry for me. Would like to hear your opinion
Great vid mate that looks nice and your right it would make a tasty snack with nan bread,you would get on with my lady as shes looks at food and says ooh we could share that! I just look blank at her as i am the kind of man that looks at a joint of meat that says serves 6 and think err no that serves just me lol
WOW what an amazing meal for 1.50. Anyone living alone or with a busy life could have a 1.50 frozen ready meal every night for a weekly total of 10.50 ! Sadly no Heron in Cyprus. x
@@BaldFoodieGuy Sadly no. We have Lidl, Spar and our big chain is Alpha Mega who did sell thousands of Tesco products BUT sadly because of Brexit this has stopped. They now stock a range called Casino from France but they seem to be good quality. Our meat, fruit & veg are produced here and very nice too. Occasionally if I am lucky I find Wrights pies or Pukka pies (chicken & mushroom). I have finally discovered a curry sauce recipe on You Tube from Teesside Chef which I tweaked a bit, but is very good. x
