The scene near the beginning with the funeral procession of bikes up the freeway is only about 30 minutes from where I live. I've driven on that stretch of road hundreds of times. The racing sidecar that carried the coffin was found a few years ago. I believe they trying to restore it.

Let's get our facts correct, this movie had nothing to do with the Hollywood arsewipes. It was filmed in and around Melbourne Australia, which is why it's the best of the Mad Max movies. The Headquarters was actually filmed at the old Spotswood sewer pumping station.

Been wanting to watch interstellar though , I like Science Fiction movies , I thought Water World was Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior only on the water except with Kevin Costner and Jack Black

I met Hugh Keyes-Burns once in a shopping center. We were walking towards each other. I did a double take and he saw my reaction. He was just wearing normal comfortable clothing for the time of year, and I immediately sensed he didn't want a lot of attention. Nevertheless we kept heading towards each other. When we met, I said something like, "Hugh, love your work, obviously especially in Mad Max". I kept it at a reasonable volume, trying not to draw too much attention I then said "I won't hold you up, somehow I don't think ypu want attention right now". He thanked me for being a fan, for recognizing him, and especially for not drawing attention. He appreciated that. lol I have also met Dennis Williams, who was the stunt driver for the truck in Mad Max 2. Was a nice bloke as well, even saw his photo albums he took while making Mad Max 2.

The panel van was borrowed as well. I watched it at the drivein the first x amount of cars were given a free mad max sticker i put it on the mirror of my bedroom it was there for years then one day i revisited and my mother had taken it off.

I met Hunter Gibbs (the guy who escaped the attacks runing with a nacked backside through the bush) in 2008 at the Blue Mountains Australia. Divorced and on drugs and alcohol was Mad Max still his moment of being famous.

I was too young to see the original when it was release in Canada - it had an R-rating and was restricted to viewers 18 and over and I was just going on 16. Had to wait to see it on video. But I went to see Road Warrior when it came out several years later and introduced my friends to the Mad Max franchise. The weird thing is, I was so used to watching the dubbed NA version, that the original sounds foreign to me - I can't watch the original dub without it being "strange". The Goose was my favourite - made me sad when he got cooked. Thanks for the update on these iconic characters (actors).

Another commenter made this same exact comment I'm bringing up, Mad Max 1979 is not Hollywood on any level. This is all 100% Bonafide Australian. Hollywood had nothing to do with this one. And it shows. Never saw it in the theaters but I definitely bought all the VHS tapes that were available up through and including Thunderdome.

That Aussie sun has a lot to answer for ? most of them suffered in old age ,especially Hugh Keays - Byrne who when he died was two years younger than me ,but looked like my Granddad . But the film at the time was a revelation ,not for a biker film ,because the story was pretty much the usual ,nasty bikers against the good guys . But in this film it was a toss of a coin which bikers were which ,Steve Bisley was a standout actor ,nearly stealing the picture from Mel Gibson and that goes for Keays - Byrne as the big baddie ,who could certainly pull a face ?.

And my teeth are like the stars - they come out at night. But at 79, I still do my own yard work, lawn mowing and snow clearing in the winter - I live in SE Wisconsin.

This movie was wild, absolutely wild!! I saw it for the first time when I was 18, in 1984, and was fascinated. We all rode motorcycles then, so you can imagine the impression it made upon us. The other Mad Maxes are pure crap, but this was indeed a CULT MOVIE, one of the very best ever made. Extraordinarily intense. Amazingly hard. Do find a way to watch it, if you haven't yet.
