"We don't care what anyone else thinks right now...We sat in the cutting room... and we decided we'll do what the best thing is to do..." == one of the best action movies ever..
I would absolutely LOVE to see the 3 hour rough cut that was shown to lucky test audiences to get feedback in the early stages of editing. This version was put together before the Citadel scenes (the first 15 minutes and last 10 minutes of the movie) were even filmed.
Mad Max Fury Road still my number 1 movie of all time. now after i watched this video, i praise George Miller even more!!! Thank you for incredible story mr. miller!!! cant wait to see another chapter of mad mac
We don't need a rushed sequel. One of the reasons for this movie to be the contemporary milestone it is was that it baked in Miller's pre production process for 20 years, besides the fact the first film also took a long time to get done, if there's no more movies on the franchise, it will be better than having a mediocre product for the studio's greedy satisfaction.
Apparently the scripts for a sequel and the Furiosa prequel have been around since before Fury Road was released. I guess the 20 years it took to get this movie done gave him time to write those stories and have them "bake" for a while
Miller himself has said so, but still, as soon as the franchise was hot again, the studio clash began and eventually they could even release material without Miller involved just for some legal way to get it their way and keep cashing on... just saying, don't let the usual Hollywood greed ruin a perfect franchise as it is (including Thunderdome). xP
Mad Max Fury Road and Furiosa are two of the best action films ever made. But not only that, two of the best films ever made. They do it for real and that's so rare nowadays. Let's hope we can get the story of Max in the year he spent scavenging, because we need it! Hands down the best director and storyteller of our time!
One of the best action movie. The atmosphere, makeup, indestructible vehicles, guns everything was so unique. And the performance of tom hardy & charlize theron.
I just watched this movie for the first time a couple of weeks ago and this is by far the most amazing film I have ever seen. Definitely my favorite film of all time. Thank you George Miller for this piece of art!
There's a book Kyle Buchanan wrote goes into full detail on the making of Fury Road entitled: "Blood, Sweat & Chrone: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road" I highly recommend it.
To this day, Fury Road is my absolute favourite movie, right next to Lawrence of Arabia and the 1990 Treasure Island film. Mad Max was a miracle in filmmaking
27:16 “Pay no mind to the thunder and listen to the birds”. Wow, what a quote! It seems to come from U.S.A. composer Eubie Blake’s quote “Be grateful for luck. Pay the thunder no mind - listen to the birds. And don’t hate nobody.” Both versions are wonderful and so apt, particularly for any performing art!
Best film of that year, I don't care what anyone says. Hopefully WB settles their dispute with George so we can get the sequel. I hope the Furiosa film is a prequel as well...I don't know why they would do anything else. After hearing Charline's comments it I'm confused what the story is will be
IIRC they're doing a prequel and someone else will play the young Furiosa because Miller really didn't like the way young De Niro looked in The Irishman (he was planning on doing the same thing with Charlize)
"I've been an advocate for [George Miller] since going back to Happy Feet" might be one of the most unintentionally hilarious lines of all time. (31:22)
Mad Max: Fury Road is the pinnacle of an action film. This film breathes action. Absolutely the essence of pure non-stop action. It's a film that taked what maked Road Warrior great and gave his own flair. The references are still there, the narrative is pretty similar, but at the same time is unique. Doesn't sound like a remake. It has his charm, an adrenaline, energy, potency... still not matched to this day on action genre. Mad Max: Fury Road is cinema at is finest. It's truly remarkable the resilience of George Miller even through the set backs and doubts of the actors involved in the project. And I kind of related to what he said about adapting and hearing the birds through the storm. Perseverance, determination... is a must to show to the others, what you see with your own eyes. It's isn't easy but when you know, you know. Great documentary, indeed.
Still waiting on WB and Miller’s production company to settle their differences and give us a sequel/prequel to the best movie that came out last decade.
Nothing about Ben Osmo, sound recordist. He made a system to record sound wirelessly several kilometres away from the action to get those vast vistas. Got the Oscar as well. Also, it is nice that Tom said what he said afterwards, but imagine what you’d get out of Tom, or any other actor if they knew what the director wanted. Imagine if Tom went and filmed it agin (or even a sequel) if he know what the final vision was.
He did almost mess up the film. Margaret Sixel said in an interview that he would constantly go off-script and try to do something comedic which did not fit the scene at all. So you can imagine how difficult it must've been to edit his scenes.
Easily in the creme de la creme of Action cinema and one of the very best the 2010’s had to offer. A true testament of executing your vision in a manner that’s so exacting no matter what nature throws at you. A Best Picture nom for a purely action film is unheard of so that in of itself is unprecedented. Bravo Mr Miller and co
As a big Mad Max fan of all the movies, watching this doc made me glad George Miller finally got Fury Road made. It sets an extremely high bar for this upcoming prequel. I wait to see what Miller has in store for us. The only disappointment I have is that Charlize Theron won't be reprising her role as Furiosa. She made that role what it is! Anya Taylor Joy has some tall shoes to fill for sure.
Now, I feel bad that it took so much time and strength in the making and yet went down as just one of the best action movies, not "ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES". This is outrageous.
People in the industry know. MMFR made almost every top-10 list for the decade. Even Vanity Fair, whose list is comprised mostly of "serious/artistic" films like "The Phantom Thread", listed Mad Max: Fury Road as the BEST film of the decade.
did anyone stop to think that Mel would have been even more perfect for the role given his, um… issues - it’s called mad max. that being said it was incredible with Tom hardy and I wouldn’t want it changed. it’s an action masterpiece. how long it took to make it had something to do with the superior quality of the film.
