The reason Max sucks at jumping is that in the first movie he got shot in the knee. That is why he wears a knee brace and limps when he falls a bit too far.
One thing I like is how they were going to originally go with an American voice actor, but after listening to the fans wisely decided that Max has and should always have an Australian accent.
+joyusdivisionus I really hate reviewers that right off a game because it has similar mechanics to other games, GS says this game is a copy of batman series in terms of gameplay, (which it isn't and only combat is barely similar), yet it always gives a 9/10 for all COD games even though all of them tend to be the same exact game each year lol........
It's like this guy reached into my brain and figured out everything I wanted to know about this game and said it so I can make an informed buying decision.
My dad bought my an Xbox 1 X for Xmas with Fallout4 and it actually came with a digital download for Fallout3 and believe it or not I play F3 instead but I can't wait to buy a hard drive so I can play F4
+JJultimateG i7 920 at 3.4ghz / 12gb / evga gtx 670 ftw edition 2gb / win 10, running it on the Very High graphic preset 1080p, I've only seen it drop down to 55 fps on rare occasion. mostly stays at 60fps (vsync)
+73mathesar nice I guess I'll be good running an amd fx 8320 @3.5/ 8gb ram/ gtx 770 Sc2gb so I should be good for this need to upgrade to windows 10 though still on 7
+AngryCentaurGaming No! You don't get to sleep before you review Metal Gear :-) Seriously - you do an awesome job, impressive insight and nuanced points of views! Love it...
"If you liked it thumbs up, if you did not thumbs down." I love that... I don't think I've ever heard it on another youtube video. They usually just ask for a like regardless.
Yea I don't always agree with ACG but I do like his reviews because they are detailed on a technical and personal standpoint and I respect that in a reviewer. He states what he likes and doesn't like and gives his reasons for us to see and to form our opinions. So even when I disagree I can't ever give a thumbs down to well done reviews.
You just made this game a buy. You mentioned the fact that while the melee combat is similar to the Batman games, the "Ice glider" effect doesn't work and thats great news to me. I've never been a fan of that quirk. It makes the combat too easy. Its already pretty strait forward. Great review as usual, I now trust your opinion on games more than anyone else. You give fair reviews that gets to the point. I
+TheDalinkwent its still a little bit shallow, in terms of melee combat if you compared it to Shadow of Mordor, and batman, its a little harder than Batman though, and the Melee combat upgrades are slower to gain compared to other upgrades because they are connected to a ranking system, so you only unlock those skills as you rank up.......its still a good game, but I wouldn't get it at full price if you are getting it purely based on melee combat complexity..........
Kul Zaze My main reason for buying was the openword/Sandbox aspects, mythos and car combat which seems to be the most praised aspect of the game, even less than favorable reviews admitted the car combat is a refreshing mechanic, but the melee combat was kind of the tiebreaker because many games are hit or miss on melee combat if its not the primary mechanic. I know it won't be as deep or complex as Batman or Mordor, but its a nice bonus.
+TheDalinkwent The hand-to-hand combat in Mad Max is a childs play, nothing challenging or creative requiered to plow down hordes of enemies. I don't know how many times I wanted to grab someone and throw him off the cliffs or into some spikes or whatever... not gonna happen. Maybie set traps, electrify or whatever. All enemies are literally the same and require banana skills to take down.
+cpthemonstergamer couldn't agree more, always come here to get the in depth scoop! Hope you're ready for the busy season! :D don't envy your job in the next few months +AngryCentaurGaming
+Marco AFI That's happened many times, where critics will in the eyes of the general audience short-change a game. There is often a gulf between players and critics.
DAMN MAN! I have seen your other reviews as well, but DAMN! this one shows that how much efforts you put in your reviews. Your hard work is reflected here. Keep it up man
Madmax reminds me if Shadows of Mordor. It was also supricingly good and really fun to play. Will put it on my list for later, because MGS is taking over my life.
I've had some great memories playing this game from completely random events to a perfectly timed (gaming's best) shotgun shot, from intense electrical sand storms to just driving my Opus over the dunes just listening to that v8 purr...fantastic game.
Sylvex Dragonskin Everyone and their mother have played Skyrim, and no considering the game is ancient and you can get the same experience and better on PC is a total ripoff, but Bethesda fanboys will gladly give their money to the company their worship, good job Bethesda, you've done it again, seeing that mad Max is so cheap now comparing to that, is just sad, in fact I just went to PSN store and checked, some of the worst games are more expensive than this masterpiece
+Russian Bear That is indeed how the world goes. It wasn't popular enough and most people are the opposite of smart so we'll always have that problem. Have a good life! ;)
Hey man I just wanted to say over the past few months I've really started gravitating towards your channel as my main source of reviews for big games. Love the format, the depth in to which you get in to the games, and the energy you put towards each video. You're doing a way better job than some of the other major publications, wish you lots of success, just keep it up man!
You actually have the best reviews on RU-vid, love the detail and jokes, very entertaining. P.S totally agree with sound being a big part of games, that's a big reason why I love Ori and the Blind Forest.
Just got it on ps4 for 15$ and so far after about 6 hours its really fun! I got MGS5 before this and I think im enjoying this game a bit more than that.
+ThisIsDex GT Review was pretty good. I don't pay attention to GT Review scores but they are very thorough with the pros and cons of the game, so in the end you feel like you are making the decision to buy or leave the game based on their information rather than their subjective opinion.
This review was the tipping point that pushed me over to the buy side and I do not regret it in the least. The gameplay loop is strong with this one but boy is it ever fun. From here on out, I'll be coming to you guys for a fair, unbullshitty review!
The story and cut scenes in this game would have made a far better movie than fury road. Fury road had a crappy storyline. But the story and characters in this game are awesome. Plus the game itself is incredible. I think you need to be a mad max fan to really appreciate it though. This is now my all time favourite video game. The game is fucking bad-ass! The car battles in first person view are something special to behold.
+AESCULAPTORmark3 Fury road was pretty much fast paced gritty action movie. The story that it did have, was mainly focused on Furiosa and not Mad Max. I honestly loved the movie as well, it told it's story for what it was but the main thing was the action, music and sets. Which was fucking epic.
+DoozyJr Yeah. I have to say though, max's story and his character were far more interesting to me than Furiosa's I couldn't identify with her, but i could identify with max. And same as many other fans of the original movie i'm a big fan of the vehicles in that first movie. So that is an added attraction. Love max's story and the cars. In my view Furiosa should have had this new movie all to her self.
Oooh, I just started playing this yesterday (already put in 6+ hours in my first sitting - late night/early morning session). I totally forgot about the ability to drive in first person. I remember seeing it in the control scheme when I first booted it up. Cheers for the reminder! :-D
Dude your reviews are so professionally done. The best is your thorough knowledge of the game which allows for your excellent narration to inform your viewers perfectly. Well done. Thumbs up and a HUGE subscribe.
I remember reading/watching a few reviews before I bought the game, and how people were saying basically "it's mediocre", but I decided to give a try and buy it anyway. And so glad I did. It definitely has a charm, a bit of soul, and actually engaging gameplay, unlike so many other games based movie series/universes. On the negative side, I do wish that it had more challenge to offer, though. It seems like once you get past the clunky controls, and get used to all activities, it's really easy to breeze through it, and very few things give you trouble. Especially once Max, his skills, car and everything are upgraded. At any rate, this was a really nice and actually in-depth review. Subscribed.
I just picked Mad Max and Battlefront for the price of one and I have to say I'm enjoying Mad Max more. And as a massive Star Wars fan, that surprises me. Despite living in Australia I've never see a Mad Max movie, but thanks to this game I'm going to track down the new Tom Hardy one. I watched this review when it came out and I have to say you are spot on.
Yeah I was just thinking of that.I would like to do my 2nd playthrough with no griffa upgrades though, 'cause It break the immersion from some of the things that you can unlock*I don't even need to scavene for fuel anymore,It's sad :(*.I don't know If there's an harder difficulty too,I guess so.
personally loving this game right now haven't even opened my phatom pain yet lol great review as always brother I been letting mad people know bout this channel
I started playing this at 9m, next day at noon I was still playing! So long since a game has grabbed my attention so fast and well. Worth every penny, imho
I agree. It's a buy and if it wasn't for Fallout 4 coming out, this could probably be my GOTY and I haven't finished it. It's not perfect, but it's a hell of a lot of fun with tons of things to/replay value.
mgs:pp is worlds better than this. Unless you dont like stealth games. But the steakth gameplay in mgs is so good that it just leads to the most epic missions. I lije mad max i just dont think its worthy of goty in a year with mgs, witcher, and fall out. I can see fallout being even better than mgs,, potentially, because it seems like there will be an unprecedented amount of interesting things to do in its open world. Witcher gets credit for its beautiful and varied open world with great dialogue but diesnt deserve goty thanks to its bugs and clunkiness (menus/geralts movement). Either way best year in gaming imo.
Ok i'm subscribing to this channel. I really enjoy the way you guys explain the things in reviews. Seen both MGS5 and this review and i will definitely keep checking for new ones from now on. Two thumbs up! As for this game, i saw a lot of kind of negative reviews and it slightly got me doubtful about this game, but now after this review and seeing the footage i really want to check it out for damn sure.
Finally got around to play the game, have to say I really liked it despite it's flaws. The gameplay on foot is very fun, Max is heavy and slow and it trades the finesse of say Batman for a more visceral combat, no matter how good you are you always will take a few hits which ties well with the character, which is not really a martial artist, but a resilient bad ass that can take a beating and move on. The best fights were when I was swarmed with enemies and my life reduced to almost nothing, it made me feel more of a bad ass than playing with Batman where I just couldn't be hit, there is something cool about looking on the corpses of your fallen enemies and knowing you almost were one of them. The car combat is amazing the Opus is a great concept in which each part REALLY makes a difference, from a slow tank to a nimble papier mache car, too bad it takes so long to get the V8 though, also they should fix the first person view, maybe a view from the headlights, you can't see shit when the car is burning or the V8 is installed, other than that I loved the car and the weapons, the harpoon is amazing. Chum is great too, I thought I would be annoyed by him, but you can't help but love that little bastard, specially how he loves the car so much, maybe too much, but hey, I can't blame him. Now the bad, the story is shit, although Max is a badass the reluctant hero is waaay too cliched at this point, they should have moved on from that, the side characters are all great but there is just too little interaction from them, too few missions or cutscenes. In the end the whole story is about you getting a V8 and that's it. I also thought there were waay too much scrap points on the map to collect I specially hated the minefield parts, although it was nice to take the dog along for a ride I didn't like that I had to take the buggy, specially because the dog could fit on the car with Chum and they could interact with each other. So the game has a great world, although I hope they drop the immortan joe thing in a sequel, the gameplay is amazing, if they can somehow flesh out the story more in a sequel and add more side quests and story missions like GTA, man we will have a post apocaliptic Red Dead Redemption in out hands and how awesome is that?
I really enjoy your reviews. Longer, more descriptive reviews are obviously more informative and yours tell the truth with minimal to no bias. Just the best.
Max's low jump is actually a bit of Gameplay and Story Integration. One thing that stays constant throughout the franchise is that he has an injured leg which is why you can't jump very high and he limps if you fall from a certain distance.
Very underrated game. I appreciate how you really break down the honest to god merits and faults from the perspective of us gamers. Sometimes it feels like all the big reviewers are taking their notes from the same source. They try to be flowery and use comparisons to other games rather than just flat out say what's fun about that particular game. You better keep it up, cuz you're now my go to reviewer, haha.
Jesus christ you are something special. Here i was, about 7 hours ago just scrolling around youtube looking for my daily dose of silly stuff when i stumbled onto your videos. Fast forward those seven hours and you have rejuvenated my motivation to play some long-installed but forgotten games and loving every syllable you utter for the beautifully constructed stories you tell. Subscribed, whitelisted on ABP and looking forward to more video's.
Just subscribed. Love your reviews, especially this one. This game is awesome and it's nice to see a review that understands that this game is what it needs to be. Why some reviewers compare it to MGS5, just because it came out the same day, I'll never understand. Looking forward for future videos!Cheers!
12:48 Love how you addressed(...and how MM does them) these now very cliche and anoying chore like features games keep trying to support themselves with now adays. Calling it "depth" and "realism" like either of those should mean something to someone whos spending time in a digital realm and not feeding there 10 month old tiger kittens in reality. Things that improve the game are great but so many games now adays use chores to drag down a game making more like a sagging over taxed bag trying desperately to contain water and less like a deep and meaningful adventure thats both fun and/or challenging.
wow! that's one great review, i especially like how you're talking in-depth about things like sound, atmospheric details and much more, where others do reviews like "graphics, gameplay, story - done"
COMBAT TIP: 'Punch' and 'parry' do NOT override each other - meaning you can press both buttons at the same time and you'll just punch enemies as though you're just pressing 'punch' alone, but when an enemy goes to hit you you'll automatically parry them as if you pressed the Parry button alone - I figured this out a few hours into the game and since then I haven't lost a single fight and barely taken any damage in fights at all! I can even just stand still and mash the Punch and Parry buttons (X&Y on Xbox) and rack up insane combos. When they designed the combat for this game they must have forgotten to make sure one button overrides the other - not that I'm complaining. :)
Great review, I couldn't agree more with everything you said. I'm 16 hours in and I never want to put the game down. The fact of the matter is that this isn't a "GOTY" candidate, but it has that one magical element that we look for in every game...FUN. No matter what I'm doing I'm always enjoying it. Another thing I can't be more happy with is how flawlessly it runs on my PC. I was so skeptical after I bought Arkham Knight and went through that whole fiasco (Thanks WB), but this game is so insanely optimized. It looks and runs beautifully at max settings. The one big gripe I have is, why oh why do they make me destroy the fuel and oil supplies of the camps I'm taking over if that resource is what drives the entire existence of the game? It's all about surviving and always having the resources necessary to do so, so why would I destroy the oil pumps and oil/gas reservoirs in the camps if I am trying to take them over? That to me seems like the most illogical thing about the game and I am trying really hard to overlook it, enjoying the other aspects of the story. I'm just thinking that if I was Max that I would keep all that stuff for myself as it's essentially my wealth, means of survival, and the source of power/standing in the wasteland. Other than that minor issue, I am really having a blast in this game so far.
Step 1 load up mad max on your xbone Step 2 start a "five finger death punch" radio station in the "Pandora" app on your xbone Step 3 have the station playing in the background whilst playing.....your welcome👌🏻
not a bad review at all. after watching this I bought this game as it is on sale deals with gold xbox one this month for 30 bucks. not bad it's only 32 GB. I'll grind in this game starting Saturday as I just put in 2 weeks of vacation at my job. gaming, drinking, eating, fucking and sleeping. that's my two week vacation starting this 12th. Mad Max here I come!! gaming for days can't wait!!
I'm just confused as to how this game is so repetitive yet it's still so much fun and awesome at the same time....🤔 still unsure if I should get this game or not...
My one gripe with the upgrade system, and this will probably sound stupid as all hell, is that you can skip a middle upgrade. The border defense upgrade, the spikes, I skipped the middle one and went straight to the last one. I personally don't like this because it makes it feel like if I just wait and can save my scrap and skip all the middle ground.
If any developer at Avalanche reads this: Please give us console and PC players a patch which makes dead bodies/corpses and car wrecks stay on the ground until the player reaches a great distance to them. Instantly fading away bodies and cars massively break the immersion. This kind of game design is absolutely not bearable in the year 2015. Most games these days offer permanently visible bodies and blood stains, which increase the realism and immersion considerably. This otherwise great game suffers badly from this issue, please Avalanche, adress this problem. There is nothing that gamers hate more than disappearing corpses. It feels so... 1998. We have next gen consoles and PC's which could run NASA simulation software smoothly, so why do bodies still have to fade away into thin air after 20 seconds? Another huge atmosphere killer is the eyesore that covers the top left screen corner - the mission objective text reminder. Does it have to be visible all the time and ruin the vista? And what's with the floating destination marker that is always visible in the distance? Isn't the minimap enough to find my path, do I need to be reminded by a floating circle within the game environment all the time? No, I don't. Ubisoft does this, yes. But they think gamers are stupid. But we aren't. We love playing most games with HUD entirely disabled, as we want to discover the game world by ourselves. So please give us the option to turn off unnecessary things and instead keep the dead bodies in. Thank you very much for reading this and I honestly hope in the name of all gamers that you guys listen to your customers and fans and release a patch soon.
i have been enjoying the game a lot. Ive been thinking that this game does not deserve the review wcores of 6/7's that its been getting. For me its a more fun open world experience than say, Mordor or far cry 4. It may even have better gameplay than batman as the combat and driving just feels more satisfying. and the upgrade loop is very well done with most upgrades actually changing gameplay.
+Kevin Jimenez really ? i enjoyed fc3 but was dissapointed with fc4. The open world was decent but suffered from the usual ubisoft openworld issues where once youve done one of the diff. types of sidequest youve done them all. For example all hunting sidequests are the same basic things. All defending outposts, or stopping a convoy, defending outposts are the same. It was pollished and systems are well fone but gets formulaiic. AC:unity was even worse. At least far cry3 had interesting story characters.
HEYNOW ~ Cool Guide : April 27, 2018 and I’m Jumping back into Mad Max ( never finished Game ) I must blame the Witcher III , I’m still surprised how well the Gameplay is with my 2011 HP Compaq Elite 8200 pro sff Pc with i5-2400 Cpu - Evga Sc 16gb Ram - Crucial Mx300 ssd - Msi Gtx 1050 ti 4gb Gpu : played at 1080p / Ultra Graphics settings with frame rate above 60 fps 🎮 once again thanx 4 Posting. 🇵🇹
More like the most overrated movie of all time. Which saddens me, because Brendan McCarthy worked on the movie and I loved his work on the 2000AD comics, and for me to say something negative about one of his works greatly disappoints me. I actually didn't like any Mad Max movies, I found them all to be boring, but Fury Road aesthetically looked better than the original three movies, the colours popped off the screen, the character designs were on point, but I just did not like that movie.
Thanks PS+ April games! I played for about 45 mins on PS4 and then bought it on PC. Runs like a dream. (Xeon 5670 OC & R9 390 8G = 1440p 70-90 on high) I'm almost done with it but I have to say I've been tremendously impressed with how polished and fun this game is. It's not perfect, open-world games can get old especially if you try to clear everything. However, Mad Max offers a good deal of gameplay variety and you can progress at your pace. TLDR: This game is a gem, and having not played any Just Cause games, Avalanche is a studio I'm happy to cheer for.
will definitely be buying this for my xbox one. love the mad max films and the thought of being able to drive around in numerous max type vehicles in a big open world map is great.
Game is indeed fun and got it day one for a hefty discount. Totally worth the full price though and my god is this game optimized nicely. Everything max and not a single stutter. It reminds me of both Rage and Red Faction Guerrilla~
I'm new to PC gaming and this is one of the first games I bought, all I can say is I don't regret buying it. I can't play "recent" games with medium/high settings due to having a laptop but Mad Max is playable in medium settings. Note: I had no idea what Mad Max was and never saw the movies so I'm not a fan promoting this game.
The only thing I'm concerned with is the story. I want a strong story and characters I care about. If there's no emotional context as to why I'm driving around and getting into fights, then the action is meaningless.
Finally! A reviewer who understands what progression means when applied to rpg mechanics and doesn't just dismiss a game because his beginning character dies when he takes two punches or when it seems like it's going to take FOREVAAAR to collect enough money to upgrage not realizing that the character has the ability to get better at doing things. Or my favorite excuse, "why is this even in a game?" No lie! Thank you, thank you, thank you for this review of a game that deserves better!
You know, I was hesitating about buying this thanks to gamespot and ign reviews giving it low marks - but honestly, AGC, you express a playing experience that inspires me to purchase it. Bought and will arrive tomorrow. As I am holiday in Northumbria and won't get back until Friday, this game will be sitting on my doormat ready to be played. Thanks for the review and the live stream which I watched also. Keep up the good work, buddy!
I bought this game not expecting much and was very surprised how much I enjoyed it, it held my attention a lot more than batman or shadow of mordor, the customisation is really cool, you can completely change max and the cars look, and there's loads of side activities. Well worth the price, and the combat is fantastic, very underrated game
