Mad Max (1979), Mad Max Road Warrior (1982) and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) -- are all set in the near-future in Australia. From the very first film, Oscar® winner George Miller proved a master at creating the gritty, bleak dystopian world and staging the incredible car stunts and crashes in the era when stuntmen, not computers, achieved the effects. All three movies starred Mel Gibson, virtually unknown until after the second film, as Max Rockatansky, a highway cop traveling through the Outback in a society descending into chaos. The films started Gibson on his road to international superstardom.

this is a fantastic scene from a fantastic movie! i guess it's also a bit of nostalgia for me but when i watch this scene i still get goosebumps! here's the protagonist, 'max' who really doesn't give a shit about anything anymore since his family got killed, but gets pulled into this story and finds his humanity! he is willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good, i think it's fucking awesome! it uplifts this movie from a regular sci fi action flick to a cult classic!

***** I agree that Max's decision is inspiring. At best he's going to be stranded and alone again. At worst he's going to be killed by Auntie Entity's men. I always get choked up at the final shot of Max walking alone through the desert. In reality, people do not get rewarded always for self sacrifice for the greater good.

I don't know why this movie gets so much grief. It's the first Mad Max movie I ever saw, and it has a place in my heart. It shows that, deep down, Max Rockatansky is still a peace officer.

released in america but not australia come on warner brothers give the real homeland of mad max a true blu ray box set instead of the same stuff on dvd i can't believe this even japan has this box set but the homeland the heart almost nothing
