OH MY GOD I LIVE NEAR THAT GAS STATION, AND I SAW YOU WHILE I WAS WALKING

Being from Rancho I'm really glad that you talked about the gas station. Not too many people (even those that live in the city) know about it. I was just sad that you didn't talk about the Deli building across the street. It was used as a building for a local winery back in the 1920s.

Me and grandpa Grumpy remember Burger Chef very well.... Fun history snippet: In 1982, the General Foods Corporation, then-owners of the Burger Chef trademark and name, divested itself of the restaurant chain, gradually selling to the owners of Hardee's. The final restaurant to carry the Burger Chef name closed in 1996. Your videos are super!

The McDonalds where I live used to have that hamburger play structure. Sadly they tore it down years ago. That brought back so many childhood memories! Route 66 is one of the ultimate American road trips! Thanks for taking us along.

Burger Chef was great! It was the first fast food place where I ever saw a salad bar. The one I frequented back in 1968-1973 was in Cordele, GA.. where you stopped to look at the giant rocket along side I-75. I remember their big burger: The Super Chef was 65 cents, and that was a splurge at the time, lol! It was a tasty burger!!! Thanks Justin!

We lived across the street from Bono's. They're open now, though we weren't able to check it out. We'll make it a point to do so as well as visiting the Cucamonga Gas Station.

WOW! Rancho Cucamonga! Immortalized by none other than Mel Blanc, in a routine he did on the Jack Benny RADIO show: "Train leaving on track nine for Anaheim, Azusa and CUC-amonga!" Had TOTALLY forgotten about Atlantic Richfield until you showed it again! Was a big playah on the west coast. Damned shame about the garage next to the gas station... Would've been so cool to see early 20th century auto repair equipment still in place. The black hose on the ground is a driveway alarm. When a car drove in, the pressure of rolling over it would trigger a big bell in the garage, signaling that there was a customer waiting. We oldsters all remember that double DING, DING! DING, DING! as cars rolled in. Sometimes even our bike tires would trigger it too. YES! Orange groves as far as the eye could see. The Earp brothers grew up on a citrus orchard out there. And I remember a trip to Disneyland in 1962, where the surrounding area was filled with citrus trees, just as Disneyland itself was before the park. BURGER CHEF! Ah, yes! I remember them well. "Burger Chef and Jeff", the two cartoon characters that promoted it. Burger Chef sounded a lot like Cap'n Crunch in the commercials - look for them on RU-vid. I even remember a few old gas stations having those old hand cranked oil dispensers, too. Way cool. (And dirty). That nickel Pepsi machine was how they competed against Coca Cola. Their marketing strategy was to undersell Coke by offering their product for a nickel, versus Coke's dime a bottle price. FUNNY that McDonald's had the slogan, "Buy 'em by the bag". White Castle, a Midwest burger chain, uses the slogan, "Buy 'em by the sack". Wonder who came up with that first? Gotta' correct you - Barris' first name was George. Barris Kustom supplied cars for many, many movies and TV shows in the '60s and '70s, including the Batmobile, the Munster Coach, Mannix's Dodge Dart, the Monkeemobile, etc. Dude! FANTASTIC JOB! You've taken over where the old PBS show, "California's Gold" left off. I've seen things that I never knew existed in my 20 years out there. Please keep up the great work! (Hi to Aly & Mika - and London)

I'm impressed. I love this kind of stuff. I wish more of these old buildings could be saved. In my old hometown, a local guy bought and old gas station to store his classic cars inside. Totally restored it and opened up a latte stand in the office area. Signs, pumps and all the advertising signage are installed.

We have an orange like that in Penticton, BC! It's the coolest thing to walk by when walking along the lakeside! BUT it's not an orange but a ginormous peach! The thing stands really tall! But it's a great thing to walk by the lakeside. Oh ew! I agree with the pulp-business of orange juice. That's a big no-no for me pahah. That museum!! Oh my goshhh Thank you so much for showing us your adventure of Route 66!! I've never done it myself, but it's always been on my bucket list!

The McDonald's in Lone Pine (another place you'll probably want to see if you haven't already) is kind of like that too. Lone Pine has been a popular location for movie shoots for decades, particularly westerns. So, the McDonald's in the town has a western theme.

Seriously, watched this video then drove to an odd job and found the rancho service station. Funny how me and my dad were talking about it, and then dad points up the street "is that it?". Was a fun day. ***Oh and a tip to those wanting to visit. DO NOT drive OUT THE FRONT, that area there is all sidewalk. (Hence, the tiny black fence) love the guys there had a great time.

That hose out front? It's connected to a bell. Back in the old days, a car would pull up, run over the hose, and ring the bell. That let the gas station attendant know he had a customer, wanting full service. Watch an old movie with a gas station scene in it. You'll hear the bell.

Ahhh. The Kahon pass. One of the most dangerous railway mountain trips to this day. The massive freight loads carried there, and the down hill force, make the regular speeds of around 15 mph on the pass to around double or triple that if proper breaking is not functioning properly. There have been 3 MAJOR accidents there since 1984. One resulted in around 8 deaths when a train derailed there and caused massive damage to houses. Crushing some residents to death with no escape. A truly horrifying and tragic was to die. Check out 1000ThunderboldSirenProductions. And his videos on the pass to learn more! And thanks for listening to me geek off at how much I love rail history. Have a good day! (Thunderbolt1000SirenProductions)
