As far as people not joining the Resistance goes they may have been hamstrung by the need to protect dependents. Superman's biggest weakness isn't Kryptonite it's the need to protect Lois and Jimmy..
one of my ancestors was a Scottish indentured servant captured at the battle of Dunbar on October 3rd 1651. of the 5000 captured that day only 1400 survived to be sent to American just a few months later. he regained his freedom after 6 years and went on to get married, have children, and live for 50 more years. i always wondered what his life might have actually been like, and this helped me visualize that a little. thank you :-)
Slavery in us was not based on race but availability. In fact it was the closing of major slave trading routes to North Africa that forced the African slave dealers to turn to the Europeans (first the Portuguese) as potential customers.
We had two presidents who had been indentured servants. Andrew Johnson was sold to a tailor, and he made his own clothes. Millard Fillmore was sold to a weaver.
As 'sprites', no; as a perceived oddity in how 'reality' works, yes (though whiskey or poteen assists with forming that foggy-dew reality). However, there are now plenty enough snakes in Ireland to go around, one might call them politicians - for they have the magic to make money from whisps of hot air, cobbling together fanciful excuses (on the hoof), and to disappear just when you need to lay your hands on them ... ;o) Happy April Fools .. and that's as real a reality as anyone could want - not to meet - in a full month of Sundays.
