RIP John Madden. Of course my friends and I all knew John Madden from football and were fans of his, but we also loved this sketch. We'd always quote it to each other, even all these years after it first aired

And this is why Frank Caliendo is still one of my favorite comedians. He took the John Madden impersonation and just ran with it. *sits down with telestrator, starts drawing on the video* So you see, he puts on the hair and the clothes, looks like Madden, and he, uh, does the voice and makes everybody laugh because I tell you, he's good at that. He's trying to get the popcorn popper going so that they all can eat popcorn while, you know, watching TV, but the darn thing doesn't want to work for him! So he tries to plug it in, and BOOM! He gets his arm burned and starts to get really angry, but that's what happens when you go up against a machine. You, you just don't know what's gonna happen!
That may have been true at one time, or it may have just been an urban legend. I don't know. But whether it was true or not, Caliendo says that when he first met Madden (at the Super Bowl, no less), he did the impression for some children (who he figured were John's grandkids). They looked confused, then started to laugh, then John Madden started to laugh and reportedly said, "Hey, this guy's pretty good!" So I would guess Madden possibly didn't know about him, or see him, or understand the bit, but I think he gets it now.
I see I'm not the only one who instantly thinks of this skit when they hear the name "John Madden". I imagine John liked this skit just as much as the rest of us. RIP John Madden

I remember this being one of the first RU-vid videos I watched at the age of 10/11. I thought the video was the best thing I ever saw and I was screaming with laughter. Despite not being aware of who Madden was and the significance of being an American Football commentator. After hearing his passing, I was instantly reminded of this skit. still made me howl with laughter. RIP, Madden. ITS LIKE IVE BEEN NAPALMED!!!
I first saw this sketch on RU-vid around 2008 and I’m so glad it’s still here!! I come back to it every now and then and it still makes me to tears 😂😂😂😂
This was the first time I saw Frank and I remember when this aired on MAD TV I laughed my but off. I just watched it again for the first time since it aired and laughed so much again. This is the funniest skit ever and Frank is hilarious! !!
Yup, it's back but no set date or cast yet and for now it's only going to be eight, 1 hour long episodes. Probably just to test out if interest is still high.
Couldn’t help but come back to this skit after hearing the news. Always liked pretending it really was John Madden (I’m sure everyone did of course). Rest easy big guy 😔
