I have learned this - To Conquer you must Live in spite of every thing that tries to hold you down. You MUST live to spite the evil that haunts you and hunt down good... Wrestle the angel for the blessing... hold on to HOPE, and you will succeed YOU WILL LOVE AND LIVE!
This song is so haunting, when this first came out i was in my early teens and my friend really liked it, we are in our 30's now. 2 days ago my sister called me crying to say he died. I'm not sure what happened but he was struggling with life in general. I wish i had helped him, now it's too late.
Just roughly five months ago my older brother committed suicide. As a kid, we fell in love with the sad but graceful song. I will always carry it with me in some way. I wish I had done more to help my friend, too.
Picture a person wearing a mask of happiness joy and excitement, take of that mask and reveal a dark broken soul filled with hatred, anger, depression, and deep sorrow. A mind that has given up hope on itself. The hoplessness of this life and you get this song
listen some days i feel exactly the same but to get out of that slump you have to look for positives. Think of it like this a huge battle in your subconscious one side the good and one the bad you gotta help the good man.
This is a very powerful song, even if you don't really pay much attention to it, it FEELS powerful. It will always have a soft spot on my heart. RIP Dom Santiago.
I used to hear people use it as a meme so I used it to. Today is the first day I’ve actually heard the full song and how it’s sung it’s actually a beautiful song with a meaning. I love this song 💕✨
@@norrie2460 the original was sung by tears for tears in the 80s and holds different connations because it's less depressing than this version XD This version is way better in my optimo on though :)
Listened to this song a few years ago, couldn't figure out what the song was about. Just listened to it after years and now I truly understand what it actually means. Although its sad and depressing, it doesn't make me feel sad or anxious at all. I understand that this world is really a MAD WORLD and its up to me to cope with it- Take responsibility- Take action. This song is a beautiful representation of the world that we live in today, so instead of listening to this song and be upset, we should empower ourselves and use this song as our strength instead of our weakness.
Today would of been my mom's 58th birthday she passed away in 2018 after battling cancer for three years we use to listen to oldies songs this is one of her favorites Happy birthday in heaven mom rest in peace we love and miss you until we meet again.
“A time is coming,” said St. Anthony the Great, “when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him, saying, “You are mad; you are not like us.” -St. Anthony of the Tombs This song has stuck with me since I first heard it watching Donnie Darko. While I no longer watch movies and hardly listen to any music, I can appreciate truth where it is found. This speaks to all of us whether we accept it or not. The generation before us was heavily programmed and we are the first wave to see through it all. I hope and pray for those of my generation to keep pushing through for Christ’s sake. It sucks, embrace it, call upon God, and do what you can to do the right thing. God bless you all 🙏🏻☦️🕊️
This song makes me cry ❤️😭. When I listen to this song alone in my room, painful things come to mind. 😭. How many, people died of starvation, war, cancer... 😭. When I imagine my little brother, mom or dad suffering , I hope it will never happen. This song and my sad thoughts when I hear this song is killing me. Im so sorry for everyone who have lost someone important ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@marquisdehoto1638 There's many songs that has deep lyrics in a happier melody. It's normal and you can see better the opposition, like it's meant to be designed that way
This song hit me between the eyes TWICE. First time I heard it was as part of a TV ad for the video game *_Gears of War,_* and I was so blown away with it I had to go find it. When I found the Gary Jules cover I didn't know it was a cover. I'd thought it was their composition and I was like boy did he nail the overall feel of the lyrics. Then about 15 years later I find out that it was written by Curt Smith and Roland Orizabal, and I felt embarrassed. I was in my late 20s when Tears for Fears hit it big in the U.S., and I had no idea "Mad World" was their composition -- because it never got any airplay in the U.S. where I lived. When I found that out I was REALLY floored, and listened to their version. It was more frenetic and tense, which wouldn't be out of place for a "mad world;" but I felt like the Jules/Matthews version really nailed the dark mood of the lyrics, and that version has always stuck with me. It's haunting, sad, and beautiful all at once -- and it really reaches deep down into my heart and soul.
@@chrise404 Same here. Had I known it was written by Orzabal & Smith and heard the original version I might not have been so hyped up about Jules's version; but since this was my first exposure to the song I was blown away and had to have it.
There's a sort of calmness I feel with this song that I don't get with many other songs. This song exudes an eerie feeling of blending into the crowd with everyone else but not wanting to and being incapable of standing out because you're too afraid of being perceived negatively. The worst part is not knowing if that feeling will ever go away.
shit didn't read all of your comment and thought you meant at 2:00 in song even though it still fits with what you're saying.WAIT DID YOU MEAN THAT!!?!?!????!?!?!!??!?
+Mikey Herczeg Haha, no just the whole song reminds me of walking around Walmart in the middle of the night. I think I'm going to edit my comment though, lol.
My father used to sing me this song to sleep when I was younger while playing guitar.. I never understood the lyrics cause I didn’t speak English yet but now that I understand them the song is even more sad but also beautiful
To everyone who's having a hard time, I wish you get all the love, happiness in this world Remember to be kind on yourself, this is just a cycle. Lots of love to y'all
Love you back. I think love is the only reason everyone is alive at this moment...let's not waste it. Gotta keep sharing it with those who don't have it or are blinded by their pain to know or do any better than what they do. 💚🙏🏿💚
For those wondering, this is a cover song. The original is by Tears for Fears band who had hits such as Everybody Wants To Rule The World and Shout. I find it sad because nobody knows about the original song, which is much more upbeat and makes you want to dance yet have an episodic cry. "One could perceive the original video in many ways, but I perceive Curt as being the mind and Roland being the face/body of someone who lives with depression/anxiety. Curt reflects on his own feelings and anxieties from behind the walls, while Roland dances and plays outside for the world to see"
I absolutely love this song. It describes my whole life, from moving to a new city and school. It even describes my mental health. It's both a good and a sad song.
@F G-L I know it's been a month since you commented, but I'm so sorry you're feeling that way. If you're feeling depressed, try calling the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. I've felt like that a few times throughout my life too. I know it might feel like everything is dark, as if there will never be any hope for you. You might think that there's no point in talking to anyone, because no one really cares about you. It might seem like there's no reason to keep on living. But there are always some things in life that are meaningful. Even just the chirping of birds, or the sight of a sunrise, or the sound of your favorite song can be beautiful. Life doesn't have to be miserable--you always have a chance to feel better if you try. The first step is to tell someone how you feel. It could be anyone--you can talk to your parents or friends, or you can call the Suicide Lifeline I mentioned. I know opening up to someone can seem impossible, but it's the biggest relief when you do it. There are so many people out there who would be willing to listen if you asked. If you want, you can just talk to me in these comments--I'll do my best to listen and not to judge Hope this helps
@@mrar716 I will do my best just miss My Spouse and my Mom both wore my support system passed away is hard both died also feel dead with them my family hardly know I'm Suicidal .
To everyone who feels sad or hopeless, remember that it is ok to put some time aside to feel sad, whether it be with someone, or by yourself, just let your emotions out. People out in the world care about you, so don't give up, feel your emotions, and find someone who can help.
It should be like that, since it sounds way better than the original. The tempo and whole integration with the lyrics just fits much better together. No wonder it sits in top 5-10 of the saddest song by many respected tops.
Years ago, I used to listen to this song when I was coming down from the high. I'm not there anymore. But this song still hits deep with such depressing memories for me.
