The whole video is WORLD CLASS!!! What a big sound that harp has!!! Bright, clean and clear! The art work is simply beautiful!!! Great video!!! Here in Nova Scotia, we love first class!!!!!
Thank You for this..I was looking for examples of Autoharp music and I am so glad I found your cover...so professionally played and I can see that you really enjoyed playing it for us.
What a beautiful interpretation of one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs ever! Your refurbishment of the instrument is spectacular too! I bought an autoharp years ago with the intention of learning to play, but it was not in great shape, old strings and a messed up bar cover, so the project got back-burnered. Last week I pulled it out, ordered strings and a new cover. So here I (finally) go! I hope that some day I develop enough skill to play half as well as you! Thanks for the inspiration! 🥰
I am in awe of your playing ability and your beautiful instrument. This is definitely the prettiest version of this song I've heard. And I like your hair.
BRAVO! IMO this is very best autoharp cover on youtube👏🏼 Such an unconventional choice to Tears for Fears, Mad World on the autoharp, but the result is perfect! Well played. I picked up a vintage autoharp from 1983 today for very cheap. Never played one before. I will strive to play this song on my autoharp @ some point. Thank you for sharing. Subscripting to your channel now.
Hey Nancy! No idea if you'll see this, but I wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. My husband started playing banjo during quarantine, and wanted me to learn autoharp for the last few years so we could play music together. Most of the material I found for autoharp was strictly folk/country/gospel. I’m a huge new wave nerd, and the lack of new wave covers on autoharp really intimidated me. I honestly thought it just couldn’t be done (or done RIGHT) and it dissuaded me from learning for years. And then I found THIS! You BLEW ME AWAY how beautifully you played and how surprisingly well 80s music fit the autoharp. I finally started making up for lost time this year, and I've been practicing like crazy. My husband and I have new wave jam sessions together a few times a week now. It’s been absolutely lovely, and I think back to your video often and wonder if I ever would have picked it up without seeing this cover. Thank you for putting this out into the world.
Hey Nancy, why don't you give autoharp lessons on line? You're fantastic! I would take them from you. And if you put out CDs I would snatch them up like candy
Not only does your music and autoharp sound beautiful, but the design that you created is gorgeous. I have 2 autoharps, one has a pickup for my amp and other one I found at a music store we use to have here. It belong to the sisters at church before they all had to move. They sold all their musical instruments even a big bass, in 2 days it all sold. The harp is like brand new and has the original case, music books and receipt when they purchased it. I paid $200. For it and love playing it, it sounds beautiful.
As a person who takes in, does major surgery on, musical instruments that others have discarded as unwanted worthless garbage. I like that you gave this autoharp a second chance at life. I'm currently working on a 1940s(?) 15 bar autoharp found abandon on the side of the road. Almost all the body's glue joints have started separating, wood warping, so I'm taking it completely apart. Will straighten the warping wood using heat/steam methods, then glue it all back together. One bar end cap is broken, a couple original wooden chord bars missing. I will make replacements, bring this thing back to life. So yes, call me crazy, or bored with too much time on my hands if you want. This repairing and finding creative practical uses for, what the rest of society tosses aside. It's honestly something us back hills country folk do very well. The musician in me appreciates that you shared what tuning and chords you are using. Wish more would do that. As for amplifying it. I use a Shadow Pickup I've had for over 30 years now on my acoustic instruments. Just stick it to the body (back for autoharp) of whatever I'm playing in the moment and plug it into an amp. It's position can effect sound so try it in different locations till you find the sweet spot. The reusable putty that sticks it in place has never harmed any of the instruments I've used it on. Being able to move it to different instruments means I've only needed the one, not one per instrument. So it's saved me a lot of money over the years, greatly increased my musical flexibility.
Wow! I’d seen a bunch of autoharps for sale on marketplace lately, and I’ve never heard of them before. So I looked it up. Holy mackerel. This is cool. I hope the algorithm puts you up on everyone’s recommended vids coz this is super cool! Thank you for posting!
WOW! I love everything you do here! I found a busted up autoharp at Value Village a couple years ago and had been waiting to fix it up… I’m super inspired by your paint job, DIY fix and painting. :) Hopefully I can get mine in working order soon
Not quite sure how I ended up here, but super glad I did. What an excellent cover on such a fascinating instrument. I know this is a couple years old, but hope you’ve kept at it.
This is amazing, I love the way you combined the notes of the voice and the instrumental backing music together... how you remade the autoharp....!!! You have great talent, I can't wait to see more of you!!!
I really liked your performance, Nancy. The work you put into restoring that harp was well spent, it sounds great. The overall sound you got from the instrument, the chord setup and your playing technique really does it for this piece. I'm glad you made this video and posted it.
Really really excellent! Your playing, your "costume", the 'harp's "costume", your choice of song, and your "subtext". Even the caterpillar hanging out back there...very "Alice". I sort of like the repetitiveness..it's "trance". Good job!
I'm a fellow Phoenician who is quite intrigued with this thing they call the autoharp. You make it sound and look great! I love your detailing work on your harp!
This was just amazing. You play in a way I only ever wished I could. This was the first instrument I ever owned and I played it for 10 years. Just recently thought about it and found this video. Just AMAZING. inspirational.
