Get up close and personal with your favourite film, music or sports star and grab that treasured selfie of you with your icon.
Madame Tussauds has put together a slick mix of entertainment to cater for all tastes and keep you thoroughly enthralled. There are realistic celebrity wax figures for you to pose with. Enjoy a pretty decent 4D Marvel Super Heroes movie and sit back and take a black cab ride on a tour through the history and culture of London . There is a small display showing some of the history and behind the scenes elements of Madame Tussauds. Finally, there is “Scream” which is basically a walk-through ghost train style experience, where real-life actors add to the creepy atmosphere and thrills.
The celebrity waxwork figures are divided into ten different areas: party, bollywood, film, sport, royalty, culture, music, world leaders, chamber of horrors and marvel super heroes, although some of the sections merge seamlessly together. Party is filled with A-list celebrities, Depp, Clooney, Beckham and definitely has that red carpet atmosphere and at busy times this feels like you are at a movie premiere as you flow among the crowds. A section of this area is devoted to the stars of Bollywood including Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Raj. Next you will have your opportunity to have your photo taken with the boys of One Direction or carry on to see the stars of the silver screen past and present like Marilyn Monroe, Arnold Schwarzenegger or even the late Robin Williams. Onto the world of sport and as this is London the focus is heavily on the athletes of the 2012 Olympics including Usain Bolt and Jessica Ennis. Here is your chance to rub shoulders with royalty past and present, before taking a brief stroll through culture before immersing yourself in the world of music. All your favourite stars are here including the Beatles, Michael Jackson and Beyonce. Then you have the chance to give the world leaders a piece of your mind and I promise they won’t answer you back. If you dare, take a stroll through the Chamber of Horrors, although this is really only an atmospheric prelude to “Scream”. The fantastic Super Heroes are crammed into the waiting area as you queue to see the 4D movie and probably overall deserved a slightly larger area .
My film takes you on a tour around the various zones. Celebrity waxworks will probably vary from time to time, so the figures you see in the film may or may not all be on display when you visit. Some of the figures are really stunning and even probably look better than the real thing. But some of the figures didn’t capture the essence of the personalities, I was disappointed with the figures of Audrey Hepburn and Dianna. What do you think?
On arrival there are at least 4 different queues, depending on what type of ticket you purchased, so make sure you join the correct one. The queues move fairly fast although they may seem long.
Money Saving Tip:
If you travel by train look for the 2 for 1 entry deals that the rail companies run from time to time, but you will need to print out a voucher before you leave home. Also Tesco supermarket clubcard
Vouchers can be used to exchange for tickets again do this online before you visit.
Food and Toilet Facilities
There are some food stalls and toilets dotted throughout the venue. Food stalls were in the “party” area and in the Super-Heroes hall. Don’t wait to use the toilet down stairs in the “shop” as these were very small and tended to get crowded.
If it has all been too much for you sit down and relax in the coffee shop after the gift shop.
