The Madame Tussauds museum in London, located in a Marylebone Road building, on the corner of Allsop Place, opened in 1884, but its origins date back to 1835, when Madame Tussaud organized Baker Street, the famous street where Sherlock Holmes lives, her first permanent exhibition of wax figures. It showed wax figures of historical figures such as Louis XVI, Napoleon, Marie Antoinette or the Duke of Wellington, in addition to its famous Chamber of Horrors, with a guillotine supposedly used in the French Revolution. At that time, 6 pence was paid to enter. Today, the ticket price is 35 pounds.
Marie Grosholtz - true name of Madame Tussaud - was an enterprising woman, with clear ideas and a very advanced mindset for her time and for business. She was born in Strasbourg (France) and, in this video, I explain her exciting biography.
