+Panino From Outer Space Can't disagree with you. First saw this wonderful artist in the 25yr Gala from the Met and have loved him ever since. Best Leporello ever and best King Philip (Don Carlos) Second best Don Basilio to another all time favourite Ruggero Raimondi. Love Ferrucio's voice.
I'm so sad I went to see don Giovanni at the Staatsoper last week, and Leoporello was played by Alex Esposito who is not an ounce of Furlanetto. I almost cry with the beauty of this interpretation, Furlanetto touches my heart like no other. God make me good but not yet!

Nice diminuendo at 03:30 towards the end of the most effective tone in this aria. It's not that easy at this pitch for a bass going smoothly into a mf or even p from ff . My respect - he certainly commands his (already a bit aged) voice very well. Solid work.

Having seen the Metropolitan 2010 performance I tried to find other versions. Subsequently I discovered (the then Giovanni) Bryn Terfel's festival solo performance with his thoroughly impressive sound of voice, and Erwin Schrott's - and I can't help coming back to Ferruccio who, in excess of all others, has such grace as can be. I think grace has it all: performance, elegance, clarity and fine stamina. As I come to this point, I must realise, what made Ferruccio's Leporello a bit clashing with its frames: his personality was actually greater than the character and by reflecting its own beams on to Don Giovanni, contributed to Bryn's success: Ferruccio's grace in a way shone on the figure of the Don... which was a covert virtue and gain of that stage event.
@@stefanoeclero3729 I suoi ruoli sono sempre stati ruoli da basso. Esistono bassi leggeri, bassi buffi, bassi cantanti, bassi profondi, ecc., ecc ... Ferruccio Furlanetto certamente non ha la voce di un basso profondo, però è abilissimo ad interpretare ruoli di buffo. La sua voce e il suo talento per la comicità lo rendono un ottimo interprete di questi ruoli di bassi con tessiture assai alte e vivaci. 95% degli ascoltatori lo considerano un basso. Un basso buffo. Non lo considerei nemmeno un basso-baritono.
In some irrational way I think that the fact that Furlanetto and Da Ponte were born just 10 miles (and exactly 200 years) away is a major factor in making FF the best Leporello ever.
@@wolfiemozart7554 Well, I meant "exactly 200 years" as not "not 201 and not 199", but yes, that would have been great :) After all 77 days in 200 years is a 0,001% difference... :)

I'm curious why most performers go straight through the fermata before 'la picina'...I have a breath mark there in my score, and I can't think of any compelling reason to tie the two phrases together.
