yeah i stopped following the storyline for these since madden 92, when the falcons traded brett favre to the packers you could tell the writers were grasping for straws
You can't deny that the whole series took a totally new turn when they introduced one of the best characters in video gaming history, Tom Brady. He really helped the prequels outshine the originals.
Nah, but I watched this amazing "Best RPG Ever Made" video from this rapper that is WAAAYYYY funnier. Heck, I still think Jared can't surpass his Top 10 Dicks joke.
Ben Kim Unfortunately he died in the light novel after Madden 99. Also, he wasn't a driving force in the story until the 64th war. Seriously, this series actually forces you to read all the books and watch all of the cartoon episodes just to know what's even going on and why.
Ben Kim yeah but I actually liked Madden 10 you got to play as two heroes also the intro has John Maddens wise words from Madden 96 "The time to make history is right now" plus you got to see the game from the point of view of either the Cardinals Faction or the Steelers Faction
Can I buy this series on the superior platform, iOS? Just kidding, I don't buy games. Games aren't worth paying for, so I just download free-to-play titles and buy $500 of virtual currency instead. The way I see it it's like crowdfunding to make sure brave independent companies like Apple continue to succeed in an unfair world dominated by inferior products.
There's a spin-off for the iOS called _Madden NFL Tactics_ , but despite the name, it's pretty much the same gameplay. I'll still buy it though, because I want to show my support to Apple. Ppl may say is just me looking at Apple throgh nostalgia glasses, but the gaming industry needs more companies like them, that's an objective fact.
I believe that free-to-play games are the future. Having to buy a game without knowing what you're getting (I'm looking at you, Steam) is complete and utter nonsense. It's no wonder why 90% of gamers have moved on to Android and iOS.
As an American game design enthusiast who knows football reasonably well but has never cared for sports games, this makes football even more convoluted than it already is in real life. From a game design perspective, this is atrocious. I mean, American football in general is a pretty crazy game design, then you try and work in mechanics to control an entire team of people all having to operate under these crazy rules? It's no wonder these games only appeal to sports fans--skin them as anything else and they'd probably be a derided as some of the worst games of all time.
There's honestly a great story behind the games. Like the story of Madden 7, where the Patriots were the strongest army, having dealt the most damage than anyone else in the whole game. Then in their final battle against the army of Giants, who were deemed the underdogs, shockingly murdered the Patriots. Then in a massive plot twist, Madden 11 recreates this war between the Patriots and the Giants after the Patriots were resurrected by a character called Bill Belichick, who is unmistakably the greatest leader of all the armies. However, the Giants again managed to drown the Patriots and kill them... until they were resurrected AGAIN, this time in Madden 25 by a background character which was thought to be a harmless unacknowledged NPC known as Malcolm Butler, which is weird... and this time they defeat the Seahawks to be crowned the champions of the world. They also won in Madden 17, which is surprisingly set 8 Years before Madden 25 but I think the devs are going to finish the story this next Madden and explain how the Patriots time travelled in the future and then came back to win again. Can't wait for Madden 18.
Man this year, the Eagles faction came out of nowhere with their young hero Carson Wentz, but the plot twist with his ACL really put a damper on the plot.
My issue with the lore is that there's SO much! I could read the entire Destiny Grimoire, Mass Effect Codex, and all of the Halo Lore and I still wouldn't be done! And the pages and pages of how John Madden had to question the ethnicity of making two armies fight against each other to the death for a rock took like 8 chapters!
Expected dyucks, was disappointed. By the way projared, did you know Madden 2003 is actually Madden '97 but when Madden came to america they changed the order because there was no previous Madden?
I guess the dyucks are censored in the American release. Pretty sure they're implied though. Just look at all those large men ramming into each other. Over and over. All... sweaty, and... wait, what were we talking about, again?
Someone keeps talking during your game? I think you got the Video Joker version of that game. What are your thoughts on the upcoming Madden Tactics? I can't wait for Madden '17-2.
As a New Englander, I also concour, although I am a pats fan. There is no need to cheat in the NFL, especially if you're one of the better teams anyway (not THE best team, ONE of them) packers and falcons are solid opponents you've beaten without cheating yet you cheat against the COLTS? I am ashamed to say I root for this team but in New England you get beat up if you dont
As someone who doesn't give a shit about football and who's only going off of the words themselves... I disagree. Giant sounds meh. Patriot sounds cool. Fight me.
The female party members are the scantily clad mages who perform healing rituals to revive fallen warriors. They also boost overall morale between each warrior. They dont fight, but they stay in the sidelines.
I would have liked to heard more about the lore of Madden. Who made the magic stone, and what is it's purpose? Was it made by John Madden? Why are the different factions fighting against each other? Are the commentators the rulers of the realm of Madden? You really need to dive deeper into these things, Jared.
Brandon Flash I heard he was is some sort of Overlord dude who forces these armies to battle for freedom. (Don't look at me for further information though I am just an outsider to the franchise)
Brandon Flash he created madden since the armies were going to destroy the world for power so in his last ditch effort for peace he created the Madden Event where every year the armies battle for supreme dominance and the winners have supreme power over everyone except for john madden who can erase them from existence so this who John Madden is
Thank you, Jared for finally explaining US football to me. Now can you explain what other parts of the world call football to me? Heard they made some series called FIFA or PES.
Try the RPG known as 2k17 it's great. You get a fully customized character that gets his own cut scenes and a full experience of what it's like to be a 2ker... whatever that is. You get to level up your character but through skill trees. So pick wisely. I like being a Point Guard shooter. They're the leaders of their clan. They pick battle strategies and they're excellent at shooting.
Slevin Reviews a research most of the 2K sports lineup WWE or NBA 2K 18 I would have all of those ever played WWE or both since Manning owns the franchise rights to these exact since I made a deal with NFL
Man, why even include the Viking army if they aren’t important to the plot, I mean, the universe is established as fictional already. Think about it: giants and titans are completely fictional, and we already know falcons can’t hold magic gems, so when they put Vikings, a real faction in war in the game, we knew they would get killed at some point, and they never even won a war!
Modern performance art. It's absolutely a riot and great attention to detail to pretend there was no attention to detail. He even crippled his own editing and gags along with decorating the back wall with let's just say "interesting" games instead of classics or DnD books.
I guess I can finally see why it is called Madden. If you look closer, you will see that it contains the word Mad. It actually explains a lot to the player. It is a mad storyline to follow up on. I personally gave up after 2002 since they changed everything in the storyline.
Wow, such a great series. Madden has an excellent plot, and while it has a pretty messy continuity, it's gameplay is excellent and it's just great all around.
Jared, I really don't care about sports or sports games in general, but this was an amazingly creative review. Well-written, funny and all-around enjoyable. I look forward to you being able to get back to videos ASAP. All the best!
Oh, and let's not forget about those followers of these mighty armies called "fans." Seriously, they can be VERY loud. and I mean EXTREMELY loud. Especially when your army is winning. And speaking of these armies, did you know that the soldiers of these armies can be drafted into a COMPLETELY different army through this process called trading? Yeah, the Madden series is WAY more confusing than you think.
MetaJ 92 Trust me, the only way you can get the plot is by playing all the games. In chronological order. Wikis never include all of the plot, and you wouldn't see the great character arcs. Seriously, Madden 11s Tom Brady arc is AMAZING. The only plot you should just look up is the 3ds one. That one sucks.
Wesly Z Maybe they should do what DC did with the New 52 (I think it was that) where they rebooted the whole franchise so that newer people could get into the story easily. As an outsider to the Madden story, I don't want to try and get into it because there is so much backstory, character's, different semi connected plots and it's not entirely clear who the main characters are so it's not as if I can just focus on group since everyone seems important to the story.
Erich Machado what John Madden wanted to do in 1982 what's the make it more realistic that was his main goal it's been that way for 20 years you like what you saw on TV and when you hear commentary that's what he wanted to do as well
Out of an hour long debate and that's the standout quote people seem to remember, ...even when the other guy was being transparently racist against Japanese people
I have just one question : Who is your waifu in the Madden Franchise ? For me , and this is just a personal opinion so please don't get mad , is John madden
Jared never got far enough to see the end of the game, where the two armies battle for the treasures of the elements inside what they call the "Super Bowl"
Ah, don't worry. They must be mixing up this game with the game where you kick the magical artifact. That game is called Football, but is more traditionally known as Soccer. (Pronounced SO-K-Are.)
stride99 anytime my friends talk about football I just sit there quietly and wait for them to finish. Especially if it's Madden because the one time I tried to criticize them game they went off on me
Pretty sure he's a Vikings fan. That Giants/Patriots joke was pretty clever too. Because any football fan knows the Patriots are better than the Giants, but also the Giants beat the Patriots in two Super Bowls. It's a double joke.
You should try the FIFA series, there are more factions and even a new quest mode where you follow a young hero on his journey to become the greatest warrior ever.
Fun thing is, these games have actually been Sports RPGs for a while now. Same with PES/FIFA, they've blended in RPG elements and progression systems inspired from RPGs because sports simulation, on its own, would've killed itself through game oversaturation. So even though it's a joke, yeah... it's actually an RPG with a really odd combat system.
>People like me are supposed to listen to you chatter on about this oppression in Madden that doesn't exist. > I'm just playing the game as it was explained to me, which was pretty much not at all > The best Packers commit more penalties than the worst Vikings, that's a fact. Yeah, look it up. >We've gotten rid of fumbles in our MADDEN arenas, if you believe that was a fumble, you're living in a fantasy land. Those are all the ones I've found so far
You literally described Blood Bowl! XD It's a turn-based fantasy football game set in he Warhammer universe. They did make a videogame of it recently too.
NO, NO, NO, You got the plot wrong. Madden is this Evil Thunder God who won ultimate control of the universe. He went on a quest to destroy each planet in the galaxy for their crystals, until he stumbled upon this planet called Football. The poor souls pleaded with Madden, and it worked, but there's a catch. Every year there must be a sacrificial game in worship of Madden. Now, A bunch of armies from different kingdoms come together to face off for freedom. That's the actual plot! one of the most influential RPG franchises out there! ^_^
