@@warrengdrum1 From the Wikipedia page on Lloyd Loar: "In 2007, mandolinist Chris Thile acquired a 1924 Loar-signed F5 serial # 75316[15] that was an exceedingly rare find, as it was in virtually new condition. It reportedly cost him around $200,000." From my limited understanding, A Loar Mandolin is essentially the same as a Stradivarius Violin.
You cannot imagine how happy I am to find this video on RU-vid again. I love so many things about it and used to watch it so many times. I was really sad when they removed it. Thank you so much for uploading it! :)))))))
@@xXAjaxXx Most of Colbert's musical clips don't stay up for very long, for instance the Kendrick Lamar performance from Colbert's first episode was amazing as well, and it got taken down within a couple of months. I believe the old episode's musical content would be limited under contract by CBS. The "full" version of Colbert episodes ought to include Stay Human's incredible performances, as a Classical pianist I hear ending tidbits of jazz versions of Debussy and Chopin and Bach by the band, no doubt from Jon Batiste's classical training influence.
Realizing that Maddie is the Anchor Being because without her it would be a universe where this video doesn't exist and thats horrible because this is the most amazing version of this song. God is Good...
I was going to say that Chris Thile is awesome here. But then, Jon B is also amazing. And Maddie. And Joe. And,,,oh shit, what an amazing collaboration by a fantastic group of musicians that are among the best on their respective instruments.
This is pure joyous musicianship magic captured on video. When everyone in the band has a lock on the groove. This performance can be copied but the emotion and joy at the swell can never repeated exactly the same again. A once in a lifetime moment for this band never to duplicated.
We were working in China when the pandemic began. We left for Vietnam, had to leave after the 30-day visa expired, ended up spending almost 9 months in Cambodia, and were then officially transferred to Vietnam. After 10 months of living out of suitcases that we had packed for two weeks (not sure how we came up with that time frame for COVID to blow over 😆), we had a beautiful house in Vietnam, and I was putting our clothes in CLOSETS and DRAWERS! It felt beautifully strange…and our then 9, 7, and 5 year-old babies played this song on repeat while I unpacked. ❤️
Chris Thile never fails to deliver the goods. I've seen him a half dozen times with Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers, not to mention the Live from Here radio show band. He always brings the virtuosity and the humor. Moreover, TLS band did a damn fine job of accompanying Chris and working with him to produce a new and very different arrangement of what was originally written as a romantic bluegrass-style acoustic tune. Special props to Maddie Rice for background vocals and guitar. This beautiful young woman always looks like she's having a terrible day, but still manages to hold her own with an incredible house band.
What a delight! Two of my favorites together and enjoying each other's talents - both are so unique. Now if Harry Nilssen could have joined them . . . what a triple play!
@@claudedupras8056 So... I really would love to have this for offline use but I really don't want to pay for RU-vid Premium and it won't let me rip this from RU-vid here in the US due to Terms and Conditions using that link. What are the chances you have this up on another platform? Or what does a guy have to do to have you send this to me directly?
"Chris Thile plays "My Oh My" with Colbert's Late Show band, f. Maddie Rice (Drew of the Drew)" should have been the title. Not sure why OP chose so poorly. As others have said, Thile is a force of nature. The Punch Brothers documentary is awesome.
After being turned away from gigs for over a year….everyone better be hooting, hollering, clapping along with everyone. Take your green horn attitude somewhere else
I’m diggin that stache on the sax. Question? How far must he stay away from elementary schools whilst sporting such a stache? Edit-cutie On the guitar too
@@JabezGill AHHA! I didn't want to believe it. "invisible wire" I was thinking of a winged person waking up and unfolding so that they could go about having their wonderful day
The saxophone almost ruins this, I just HATE the saxophone and I don't know why. I think t was Richard Marx fault! The 80's in general ruined it for me. It's probably the only instrument I don't find any enjoyment out of.
lol...I'm six years late to the party, but wanted to say I've played saxophone for years (no offense taken, btw) and have had a love/hate relationship with it myself, telling plenty of saxophone jokes (e.g. the definition of a gentleman is someone who knows how to play the sax, but doesn't). But seriously, have you ever given Michael Brecker a listen? Maybe he could change your mind?
Man, I love when live performances (and in this case, more or less a cover of another group sans Thile) plays an even better version than the original. This is totally dope!
