Just to clarify, the reason her acting used to be so unnatural was because she was a dancer and she had to really exagerate everything. Now she's learned differently

she was insanely good in this movie ! def a natural, not once did i feel like she overacted or didn't act well. so proud of her.

People should really stop comparing her acting in this to her acting in Sia videos and in dance. They are two different methods of acting that fit with the different works.

This was such an upgrade from “music” for Maddie she could actually show her acting abilities and not just dance

I was incredibly impressed by her in this movie. I went from not paying much attention to her to being a big fan. I think she and Jenna did an absolutely phenomenal job portraying such real, honest, and genuine emotions of love, fear, loneliness, grief, and connection.

Nobody can deny that Maddie is a hard worker at her core. Just compare this performance to any of her other ones and it’s easy to see how much time she spent practicing and improving. Even in dance, her improvement from I will be a Star to Somewhere Over the Rainbow shows the same dedication and work ethic. So many people like to wave off her hard work with ‘it was the favoritism.’ No favoritism here, but still the same amount of astronomical improvement.

i jus wanna see her in more wlw roles tbh, when i was young watching dance moms i had a big fat crush on maddie and so seeing her in these kinds of roles is literally my whole child hood envy coming to life. i've followed her acting career for the longest now, i even watched that one silly little scooby-doo episode she had a year or so ago and while one thing i notice is that directors always tie her to dance, i think that suits her because its a real natural back story to give her. i cant wait to see her completely stray from that though and fully just be known for acting. Maddie is very talented. I think Sia and Abby forced her to do pantomimy stuff but she is far beyond that.

I feel like so many people have critiqued Maddie for her acting skills over the past few years, but those people need to understand that, she was a dancer…..not an actress, and it probably wasn’t until she started working with Sia or maybe she did her cameo in Drop Dead Diva, that she started to become more involved with acting, because not every dancer is exposed to the world of acting. Obviously when she started, she still needed to work on it, but that’s okay because that’s how it is for every actor and actress. They didn’t all start out being professionals, and hitting every line and scene with perfection, and it’s not that easy of a job…..they practice and work on their craft, until they see growth and changes within their performance. I’m proud of Maddie for this role…..she and Jenna both portrayed the fear, shock, and confusion that unfortunately so many school shooting victims, and survivors have had it go through during tragedies like this. There were some people who thought that some parts of the movie seemed cringey, and while that may be true…..hey, that’s life and reality….Life and reality can be cringey, so this movie displays that.

Was literally like watching an actual person with anxiety interact and live their day to day lives. So fucking well done. Such a believable character that I didn’t even really see her as Maddie Ziegler, I just knew her as “Mia”

i'm not an expert when it comes to actors' acting skills but i really loved maddie's portrayal in this role. for me, how she played this role was very raw and natural. like the awkwardness was there but it was exactly what the film needed. and her eyes caught my attention the most, it was like it had its own life and was also trying to tell something. the introverted-influencer-whos-a-total-opposite-in-real-life character was solid and played very well. i'd say she did amazing!
