Made in Abyss - Aaox's Anime Review 

Of course the best anime made this year is selling like shit. Someone kill me.

I just watched this and then immediately watched all 13 episodes of Made in Abyss. I'm depressed it's already over.

Damn this is some good stuff. You deserve way more attention than what you are getting. This had me laughing a bunch of times. Keep it up!

The use of "Hanezeve Caradhina" at the end gave me the chills.

In a world full of Neo Yokio rants (gotta get them £££ views). Aaox provides down-to-earth well-written criticisms and in-depth analysis with a deadpan comedic flair, highlighting the finest points in anime that most of us would have missed. Can I be a journalist now? Please I need a job.

I think what separates this from a lot of other works that have characters going through agonizing and traumatic events is that while characters in those other works suffer, characters in Made in Abyss endure. A good exampe of this is the jump from when Riko has the mushrooms excruciatingly removed form her arm to her cheerfully and determinedly trying to move her thumb. Most would lament about their loss of function, but Riko instead praises Reg for protecting her.

I love how unimpressed you make your jokes and you really want to laugh, but there is just no time because you instantaniously continue. And finally someone reviewed this series that matters since Digi dropped it. Thank you for this review and maybe try to do an Undertale Video next ;P

Made in Abyss captivated me and sucked me in way more than any other anime has ever done in my life honestly, not even Fate or JoJo or even Your Name (Even though that's a film but you get what im saying) Its definitely, *undoubtedly* my favorite anime of all time, and manga aswell (Even though i barely ever read manga, MiA was one of the few instances where i jumped straight to the manga after finishing the anime, and boy oh boy it gets better and better)

pretty sure episode 7 was supposed to make you question riko's motivation. is she actually trying to find her mom, or was that just an excuse she's always been yearning for since she was resurrected?

I actually watched Made in Abyss before I saw this video, not to mention I got it as a recommendation from a person while we where playing a roblox game. I loved the anime and came looking for a review to see if there were others that liked it as well.

The fact that Riko is on basically a death march can be explained in one word: Religion. Ozen herself states that the Abyss has replaced the concept of God/Heaven in the minds of the people of Ourth. A diver who is killed on an expedition is considered to have become a Spirit of the Abyss ... basically, the equivalent of a Christian saint. When Lyza's whistle is returned, meaning that she is supposedly dead, the town doesn't go into mourning. They hold a Festival in her honor. The fact that possible the greatest hero in their history has achieved sainthood is a matter for rejoicing. Perishing on an expedition is the best possible death for a diver. This explains why the relics the red whistles, which are basically inert functionless lumps, can be sold. They are Holy objects! Riko keeping Reg to herself would be the equivalent of a Catholic High School girl making off with the Shroud of Turin. When you combine this outlook with Riko's unique reason for being pulled toward the Abyss, it is perfectly logical that she would act as she does. She accepts the fact that her body will die, but she will live on as a Spirit. She doesn't want to die prematurely and miss out on seeing the 7th level and possibly her mother, but she is less concerned about danger en route than she should be, simply because of this fatalistic attitude and quasi-religious fervor. Hence her somewhat reckless behavior.

Just found this channel and HOLY SHIT is your production quality AMAZING. I started browsing your channel and didn't even look at the subscriber count, assuming it had to be somewhere in the 500k range and I just hadn't found you due to sheer poor luck. And on top of that, you actually had a coherent talk about Made in Abyss when all the other major guys are giving it a mention in passing about its quality and then not doing anything. Very rarely does a channel earn an instant subscription after one video, but your content and level of polish are amazing! Keep it up!

I'm definitely subscribing after this video. I watched the whole series a few days ago and have been feverishly searching the web for other fans. I was and still am absolutely enthralled by Made in Abyss, the story, characters, setting, VA, themes, and music, are all basically a 10/10 for me. I've read so many comments and forums about it I had to go read the manga (basically binged that in a day because why sleep?). I can honestly say the anime impressed me more, and I kind of hope they don't do a completely direct adaption. Certain plot keys and points are a little odd, and it gets excessively dark to the point of breaking the theme a little, the theme you pointed out so well. As long as the second season keeps up the characterization though I think it will be fine, the director did a phenomenal job with this first season. Again, I'm so happy seeing others enjoy this its become cathartic just to hear others praise it, and I don't know how long it will take me to unclench as well. Here's to a second season. Cheers.

Man this shows gives me such a video game feel, it’s like witnessing a mix between cave story and Hollow knight with the fucked up parts dialed up to 11.....And it is GLORIOUS. Seriously bless the fact that we get a season 2 and i sure hope that we get a video game adaptation one day, be it 2D or full on 3D.

I heard and read a lot of "kids going on suicide journey wtf omg" but that's a reaction based on our own world. In Made in Abyss, every fucking one who's born at Orse grows with Abyss, they know that many strangers go there just to see and explore it so it's like, I don't really know how to explain it but exploring this giant pit is a dream which children grow with and it's natural for them. Everyone is based on his education, it's the same for Made in Abyss, I hope you kinda get what I mean x)

You pointed out all the problems I had with this show. I found it really strange how they just let kids go on suicide mission, just for fun. To be honest I would rather have the author make the characters be going down the abyss by accident or forced by a third party. Made in Abyss feels like a great story that is a little unpolished. But I guess you can't have everything. It is still a great show.

Made in Abyss had a pretty good ending, it didn't try to rush the story like how it happens with so many other anime that try to stuff a few manga volumes into one or two final episodes.

I started watching this show after episode 11 aired. I was only giving it a taste test at first, but I wound up binging it in under 2 days. I immediately grabbed the manga, and was all caught up on that by the end of the week. This had really better get a second season when there's enough manga to adapt, I want to hear the Rumble of Scientific Triumph from the Bondrewd fight, and the show's excellent sound direction seems capable of delivering on that.

I recommend you watch Kemono No Souja Erin. One of the best fantasy anime out there and the most overlooked. It's made by the author of Seirei no moribito
