It's funny you talk about price yet price does not determine good design. Let alone everything else. Learn how to source products by visiting the factory and ordering. This guy picked form probably a crap seller and grabbed the cheapest knowing what would happen for views. I wonder how many Americans even know how many patents or how large the Chinese industry is. China has more high speed rail than the rest of the world combined and is more stable than Japanese rail. And somehow out of the bearings in China he picked that one. 🤷

Met a man last week who loved gardening . He had a British garden fork that had been handed down in his family .It was 75 years old and was still in use . Was a bit worn so the man bought a new fork from B&Q and got to work in his garden . After ONE HOUR the shaft broke on the new fork . It had been made in China . 75 years as against 1 hour . Yes, there is a difference. Many years ago, I had to replace a wheel bearing on the car I was using for autocrossing. The dealer laid out three for me, all looked identical, but the price went something like $5, $8, $15. "What's the difference I asked?" "The 4% is the factory original. The $8 is better quality. For $15, it will never even notice your car is putting weight on it." "Give me a complete set, front and rear, of those, I said." Even at the usual autocrossing speeds, a wheel bearing failure in the middle of a corner can cost a lot more than the bearings, even the expensive ones. I never had to buy another wheel bearing for that car.

A short time ago I worked in a Hardware Shop in New Zealand (Mitre 10) that was owned by a Chinese. The very interesting thing to me was even though we had a lot of Chinese customers they would not buy Chinese made products. I used to watch them walking around in the shop and they would look at a product and turn it over to see the information about it. Almost without fail they would put the Chinese products down and choose something else (the preference was German) such as Bosch etc. I asked a Chinese customer that was buying a German product why he had chosen that one. He laughed and said "Quality". After sometime and after analyzing sales the Chinese owner slowed down on the buying of Chinese products, especially anything with electronic components because even though they used to sell sometimes. Invariably they would come back for warranty claims. And before you say that he only brought low quality Chinese products, it was me that did the buying with him and we only chose products which had a very high rating on the websites (Alibaba was our main source) and had to pay the corresponding premium prices.

Was about to say exactly the same, get some grease there and it just stops as it should, done this so many times with wheel bearings, clean them up and they spin like crazy, add some wd40 or silicone oil spray and goes even faster. The Chinese manufacture for the price point that the locals can afford, and according to OEM's specifications. They do make quality products but only if the customer requests a higher spec. for example, my local DIY store has two types of garden taps for sale, both made in china by the same manufacturer, One tap is double the price of the other, the difference in quality is visually apparent in the wall thickness of the S-Steel used, the thicker handle, and the better quality of the threads. The Chinese are shrewd efficient business people, if cheap is requested they will provide, If quality is requested they will also provide. Learn to shop Chinese products.
@frankt.1391
@frankt.1391 5 лет назад
other than that tap what can you say about most of chinese stuff? I bet at that price you find an EU made tap. Providing carcinogenic milk for infants instead of the real product is also requested? How many things are not allowed by law to be made in the west and are smuggled from china in dodgy containers?? I bet if you order toxic milk and toys they will be surrely eager to provide you for your children. Talking about how to shop chinese products... Ball bearings have a standard called ABEC. Yes similar bearings will perform differently but their manufacturing tolerances reflect in their ABEC rating. A sloppy bearing may be ABEC 1 and a close tolerance bearing could be ABEC 5. There is little point comparing bearings of different ABEC levels.
@Lancia444
@Lancia444 7 лет назад
yes but in China, their is no authority on slapping false labels on your products. You can slap an ABEC or an ISO492 label on it - but it means absolutely nothing, the bearings have imperfections and are incapable of meeting the standard for which they are designed for.

You can't compare two ball bearings just like that. You have bearings with lots of different tolerances. It totally depends on where it is made for. Bearings for a dentist drill for example are made to cope with 400.000 RPM. Those are produced at a much higher standard than car bearings.

From engineering view, you can select different grade of the bearing like what you see stength levels on the bolt, Bearings are built via industry standards which made by the steel ball, outer ring, cage and inner ring come with different material, tolerance level and lubirication of different viscocities in side. per industry standard, even at the same size, there will be differnt loading factor. The more loading factor it got, the more vescoity the lubrication would be then more resistance at free rotation. No double, German and Japan makes some of the high end of best bearing in the world, but that does not mean the Bearing make in china is a crap or a Copy. Manufacturers needs to consider about the cost vs the life expectation of mechanical parts. This comparing video does not mean anything unless it states the manufacturers, the procurement cost, the bearing models and the test conditions. That is what we call a true engineering facts and data

I recently replaced the trailer bearings on my boat. Previously when I replaced them I changed the hubs as well, but on one hub I left in the chinese bearing race, where on the other hub I change the bearing race to a japanese bearing race. I threw out the chinese made bearings, opting to replace them with the japanese made bearings. After 2 years of service I noticed on the japanese bearing races there was zero corrosion, and there was zero pitting or marks, where the same cannot be said for the chinese bearing races. Both hubs received the same brand new seals and brand new hubs. I have since replace d all bearing components with japanese components.

China as big as whole Europe, have a lot of "new"factory, they don't have or care about glory.this is the reason.. on the otherside China is changing, peoples are getting rich, would love to pay more to get better quality, more and more factories are changing for that, only produce good quality. however nowadays still have a lot of poor or rubbish countries in the world,only can pay lower price, that is also a big business.

The Chinese, on the other hand, do not understand the concept and only want to get rich quick and then leave the country for France or Switzerland or the U.S. They have no long-range business plans. The one that costs less to buy is the one that costs more to own.A German bearing will be expensive to buy but will last for years. A Chinese bearing will be cheap to buy but will only last for a year. This scales to all products. German (electromechanical) products costs twice as much but last ten times as long as Chinese products.
@alexanderkasady6839
@alexanderkasady6839 7 лет назад
LittleNipper5- Good point, but I wonder why on one brought up a third alternative, that of buying an American-made bearing, Timken, or an SKF? Certainly of better quality than the Chinese bearing, probably every bit as good as the German bearing but at a lower price than the German bearing because of Germany's higher cost of manufacturing, typically higher than the U.S. by 15%. That's why so many German cars assembly plants are now in the U.S.- Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen. I recently bought a couple of good-sized SKF bearings for the front wheel of my '67 BSA and they only about $5.50 each, so what do I care how much cheaper I could have bought Chinese bearings? It wouldn't have even been worth the asking.

alexander kasady well... the european manufacturers don't open new plants in the us because the working hand is cheaper but because the taxes for exporting the same product from europe will make it more expensive on the us market, whilst their profits would keep being lower. and this is just a precise policy concerning just a type of goods that are very much required on the us market. bmw has opened a plant for making just the X series which sold greatly in the us, mercedes produced for the begining just the ML series in the us, which was a hit, and so on.

That is all due to the density of the lubricant whitin the bearing. Testing the rolling resistance of a bearing is not a trivial issue and cannot be done without loading the bearing. If you filled the bearing with dense lithium grease it would keep rolling for itself virtually no time and the rolling resistance would be in practise the same if not less. It's not difficult for a unshielded bearing to come new unlubricated as is very easy to load it with the best fit grease for the purpose it will have.

Unlike 99.99% of all posters, i live and engineer high level products in China. Chinese are capable of making any product as good as any country in the world, and please note their current space program. China also makes some of the worst cheap shit in the world as well, and it's your fault, yes you because you buy cheap crap and then blame a whole country because you're a tightass who won't spend a few more dollars. The joke is that Chinese in China don't buy the cheap shit you do, so pop off down to Walmart or Home Depot and be a tight ass, buy a piece of cheap shit, and when it breaks make sure you get on the internet and tell everybody that China stuff is shit..

Actually a lot of this "cheap crap" works great for everyday usage, e.g. multimeters, infrared thermometers and other measuring equipment. I am not sure if they last as long as products made e.g. in Germany or the US, but I only use them for hobby so they are not as heavily used as in a work envirnoment and in these conditions they still last "forever". Also OI didn't note any difference in accuracy. I think they need to be as accurate as stated because they have the CE mark.

Shyru, too long a story, but comes down to stepping off the plane 13 years ago and rapidly finding out my Government and media were lying their asses off about China (and other) countries to hide what's actually wrong with our own country. Worst of all, they keep it up so excessively rich people can make money from military expenditure for all this fake hate rather than looking after their own people properly, medical, infrastructure, manufacturing etc. Angry now I see how many people fall for it, ignorant sheep. As far as I'm concerned, every time someone bags out China they are merely a part of a system that's damaging their own backyard.
@markmark5269

community, no they don't, Chinese do not buy that crap, they start at mid level quality and try to buy the best they can otherwise. They believe in spending a little extra for long service, they are very decent micro economists actually. You would be stunned at their patience and money saving abilities to reach the target they set. A bad example for you would be cars, they are expensive here, relative, especially foreign cars, and yet they are the largest buyers of cars on the planet. The Chinese car manufacturers have had to seriously lift their game in the last few years to get people to buy them, again because Chinese don't buy crap. Go Google the top ten selling cars year by year for the last 10 years to see that. It's only the last few years that Chinese cars are getting into the top ten, and last year hit number one for the first time. Consider those cars cost 40 to 60% of foreign cars and are only just getting sales. Hell I have a $110,000 Tesla, a $40,000 Mazda 6 and a $15,000 Electric Chinese JAC! By the way, they generally pay cash for their cars, don't even pretend to compare Chinese credit debt with typical Western credit debt, cause it virtually doesn't exist. Yup those poor Chinese, I've assimilated, no debt, own all my cars, houses and shops, wake up every morning not having to worry about my next bill to pay, because they don't exist anymore. Living the life.

I bought a 200cc dual sport motorcycle made in China. This was in the year 2007. I paid about 1200.00$ for it. It came in a crate and I had to assemble it which was not very hard. I noticed right away that Chinese metal is very soft and I had to use extra care when I tightened down any bolts. Right away the plastics paint started to fade, then crack and fall apart. The switches on the handlebar were made of plastic and started to break apart. I held them together with cable ties and silicone sealer. The paint on the tank faded immediately. Having said all this I jury rigged the machine all the time but I have to say, the bike never failed me and I used it as a daily commuter for years. The engine proved to be the only robust thing on the bike. I changed its oil regularly and I recently sold it for 400.00$ Despite it all I actually got my moneys worth many times over-----but, I would NEVER buy another motorcycle built in China!

I couldn't figure out why in the world he would compare them with a no load spin test like this when he used different lubes! I think what he said was that he used the lube recommended for each. Main issue is the quality of the steel used. Chinese mfgs. use recycled steel (costs less than 1/3 the price of virgin steel). This can be perfectly OK, as long as that batch is not contaminated with copper, aluminum, zinc, etc. If the steel is heavily contaminated, the bearings will wear out prematurely.

I had a auto performance parts business many years ago. I wanted to make a part and compared prices from the U.S. and China. My cost for the part made in the U.S. would have been $700 and in China $100. Of course the $700 part was 100 times better made with top notch materials but, the customers preferred the cheap part. You want cheap garbage, China will always provide. People don't care how long it lasts or the build quality, they want it cheap and they want it now. Look at the garbage people buy from the dollar stores. Fathers used to pass down there old toys to their children. Now, toys are broken within days if not minutes. But this is what the people want.
