This dude said there aren't enough engineers in the US to me Apple's needs....tell that to the tens of thousands of software, electric, biomedical, industrial, and mechanical engineers working as telemarketers, restaurant cooks, and retail managers making $40k or less. Stuck in low positions at some HR department. So many math grads working as part time adjunct professors and aids. Sure, we dont produce as many STEM grads as China...but we could meet the engineer demands of Apple, Google, Microsoft, FB, the defense industry, as well as big pharma.....no problem. They just prefer to fly in chinese and indian engineers who will accept a $85-$110k salary, rather than hire an American who will demand $130k-$150k.
@russiauncensored7788

@snowy the snowman Let me know when you find a story that turned out in that order. I'd pay to see that. Outside of your imaginary world, it usually occurs like this: The American starts off at a restaurant in high school, goes to college, graduates, then never sees a college level STEM job posted anywhere near them because all local companies have outsourced manufacturing, research, and development to India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and China to get floor wages. But hey little buddy, I was just like you and said the same MSM talking points as you did for many years until I spent a decade in the corporate world, worked rebar and concrete for several years, worked at restaurants, and customer service in between those jobs. When I saw the balance sheets of all the companies I worked for, I realized half of what I believed in were just common myths. But hey...keep supporting the push for floor wages you dirty liberal. You be under $50k forever if you continue to believe those childish lies. Only the dumbest and the furthest left trash still support the idea of middle class Americans being forced to compete with slave wages around the globe. Maybe you don't, but I find it traitorous that STEM grads in the US have to compete for jobs against Indians who dont even live within the borders of the US! It makes me wonder how much you have to hate Americans to support the idea of "Taking a salary 300% depreciated from its natural market value by foreign work pools in order to appease a board room's insatiable hunger for ever increasing bonuses or else you deserve to wash dishes for life" If you watch The DOW more triple in 12 years....then suggest that if professional wages rise at even 1/4th of the pace rate that capital capital gains have, it will result in companies being unable to compete? That means you have never seen the financials of a major company in your life. But hey, reality isnt for everybody....some prefer punchlines and slogans instead like yourself.

Not only because Chinese and Indian engineers are cheaper, but also if you use the same price, Chinese and Indian engineers will be better than American engineers due to the larger base engineer population. If you are a company executive what will you choose.

I am an Indian residing in India. I dont like Indians who go to the US and accept meager sum and take away jobs from US citizens. They should remain in their own country and serve it. But you should start blaming those companies, like apple Microsoft who prefer to save some money and offer jobs to outsiders. They r the main culprits. It's the problem in every country..private companies r shifting global economies through their benefit. This is dangerous in the long run..good eg is China! A country making sub standard products is now the leading global supply chain!!?? WTF

I finally found someone that understands this. I have been thinking for many months. If China's competitve advantage is cheap labor why not pull some away to other allied country? Especially those in south America which is our own backyard. It would be better to crush China and develop our backyard which would curb illegal immigration.

It took over 25 years for China to become the dominant manufacturing sector. Only in the last couple of years has that trend started reversing. One shouldn't expect Chinese manufacturing to collapse back down to 1985 or 1990 levels for another 20+ years at the soonest unless the US uses extreme political tools to make it happen faster by precipitating a total collapse in China. But it would be absolutely psychopathic for the US to do anything like that and cause untold suffering for a billion people, unless the US felt it had no other choice to survive an existential confrontation.
@TheTenThousand

I agree, however, I believe a collapse will be mainly from internal factors instead of external factors
@tritium1998

You're more likely to collapse as you beg for the foreign technology you're way more dependent on. China has been rising the most this whole time since before Nixon and you're still crying about it to this day for not being as dumb as you. Nothing you can do about it unless you want to start finding out already that your smaller population is also weaker under your US masters.

I was first: "Meanwhile, China's aging and prospering society is itself relocating transnational value chains abroad in order to reduce unit labor costs. For example, to Ethiopia, Bangladesh, or Vietnam. A similar strategy was announced by American companies (e.g., Apple) to decouple economic ties with China. The intertwining of the American and Chinese economies is probably the most important historical difference from the Cold War with the USSR. A strategic mistake, because of the possible impact on security cooperation, could be the trade dispute with India since 2019." (Michel 2019)

This is where it gets interesting. Imagining China pulling Iran into its orbit and then turkey. Using that foothold, it then extends its reach into Africa .. then Western Africa. Take a look at the map again. Brazil is close to Western Africa. If China can link Western Africa to Brazil .. we in the US will wake the fuck up at that point

Brazil won't fall for China, not anymore. In the last 6 years a massive awakening of political and cultural thinking happened, culminating in the 2018 election of Jair Bolsonaro, the first right-wing (CNN, BBC and NYT calls him "far-right") president since the end of the military dictatorship in 1985. In the last year another nationwide election was held, and the leftist parties were smashed. Today, with the growing presence of the social media, i can say for sure that the brazilian mainstream media has lost its power to influence elections. There will be at least 20 years of right-wing rule from now on, and the possibility of a new Constitution is high, in order to repeal the 1988 Brazilian Constitution, a soviet-style pile of toilet paper.

The U.S is an empire. It is responsible for 25% of the world's economy. It's economy is larger than the next four largest economies in the world combined. It is the first time the history of humanity that a navy has the domination of the world's seas. Even England in it's heyday had to contend with France. China has 1.2 billion people of which over a billion live in abject poverty. The vast majority of China's strength comes from it's exports to the U.S. and the technology it's stolen from the U.S for it's military. Never in history has the world spoken a common language as much as it does now, English. This is because in order to progress it is necessary. This is how dominating the U.S is. The U.S will remain an empire for a very long time due to many factors. These factors are too numerous to go on about in this forum. Relax, take a deep breath and let it out slowly. All is good.

I'm with you that we should back the United States but just wanted to comment that the British did dominate the seas during the Pax Britannica. After the Seven Years War the French could no longer challenge the Royal Navy by themselves and even the joint Spanish-French fleet at Trafalgar lost decisively. Napoleon himself knew not to bother against the Royal Navy and the Brits went on to completely dominate control and access to the seas throughout the 1800s during the time of US westward expansion, cowboys and civil war etc..

why during the 60s and 70s manufacturing was done in the US and in western europe and even on the 80s and 90s , where did apple manufacture their computers and printers back then , because china wasn't on the WTO , I think that this is more about profits and capital investment that big banks did in the early 2000s and after the crisis specially in china , the big banks were the first fans of chimerica
