Made In Heaven Season 2 is very watchable once it finds its bearings.
SUBSCRIBE - bit.ly/35NEDO7
Made In Heaven Web Series Review by Sucharita Tyagi - Of the backstage conflicts going on with the people running the business, that of Mona Singh as Bulbul Jauhari has the clearest demarcation between the darkness of real life and the make-believe world wedding planners create for their clients. In this sub-plot the show looks at the horror of raising teenage boys in the technology-ridden world we know today. Matched with Vijay Raaz, Mona Singh is a sheer force on screen, everyone else’s conflicts just pale around Bulbul, a woman with the name of a bird, who had to regrow her wings.
In fact, season two excels most brilliantly with the two new additions to the main cast, the second being Dr. Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju as Production Coordinator Meher. She’s a woman at work, charging top money for her services, sharp as a tack, but also swiping on dating apps every opportunity she gets, every location she travels to, always ready to explain herself, her life as a trans woman, before a man has the opportunity to hurt her. After the release of 2018’s Kaalaakandi, screenwriter Gazal Dhaliwal pointed out that we must start asking for trans characters who aren’t just included in movies to play “the other”. How Meher’s inclusion in the main cast, not just a subject in an episode to be pondered over, will positively impact conversations around trans inclusion and representation remains to be seen, but even since Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, this is a solid, defiant foot forward.

Yes, a little bit agree with you. Mona Singh is such a great actress but in this season of Made In Heaven she didn't get much screen space, I want to see more of her. I was waiting for this season for years but after watching it I am highly disappointed. This time the story is not up to the mark, it is sheer waste of time. I don't like the characterisation of Tara and Karan both as they are main characters. I want to add one more thing I like Meher more than anyone else's character.

This season of Made in Heaven is a big let down for so many reasons and on so many levels. Firstly, its mostly in English language... speaking in English among themselves already makes indians a bigtime laughing stock in front of the foreigners, the obsession of filmmakers to keep Hindi dialogues to minimum was sooo sooo annoying that after a point it started feeling so artificial... forced and plastic... if i have to watch an english series, I would rather watch something original by native english speakers... instead of watching these brown skinned yet white wannabee high society morons in india (sorry for sounding racist, but english speaking indians are infact so annoying... one should know english but not flaunt it everywhere...!!! Bollywood Nepos... learn something from the West... they laugh at u when u speak in english among yourselves)... Secondly, all the issues raised in the series appeared so forced, and nothing was organic... The first season was much better in that respect... here, even issues like sexuality, introduction of a trans-gender character without any depth, caste issues without any depth... seemed very shallow... this show neither qualifies as fantastical as GoT or House of Dragons... nor it seems in the totally realistic zone ..... its basically a khichdi made to tick all boxes... to project themselves as woke and progressive... but the truth is that the story has no soul... when will indian filmmakers learn from series like Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, succession, White Lotus, Only murders in the building, Komisky Method... that there is a lot beyond just making statements without any soul.. no character development... nothing.. a big thumbs down!!!

That Dalit Wedding - When I saw the picture of Radhika Apte in a White Saree I immediately guessed it must be a Buddhist wedding. I posted same on the Instagram stating, I hope this is a Buddhist wedding. However, one of my friend commented this cannot be a Buddhist wedding as she is wearing "Nath, a maharashtrian ornament" so this must be a Maharashtrian wedding to which I schooled him Maharashtrian Buddhist Brides do wear Nath at their weddings. Do you see how people have zero knowledge about Buddhist/Dalit wedding here? But when the trailer confirmed it, I danced joyfully and even taunt a little to my friend. However, it wasn't his fault. Like you said this is the first time Buddhist wedding has been shown on any major platform. Forget about the wedding, this is first time any Buddhist tradition has been shown on Major Platform. Forget about any traditions I don't even see a Buddhist friend in all these television serials or movies.. And of course, it takes Neeraj Ghaywan to do it.. Almost everything shown it that episode is true.. Dalit's changing their surname to hide their identity, adjusting during inter-caste weddings, feeling guilty about whom they are, everything.. We are in 2023 and I still see this happening around me.. Last week, I witnessed an inter-caste marriage between a Buddhist Boy and Hindu Girl where not a single Buddhist ritual was followed and the boy's "real identity" was hidden from the bride's entire family.

Are Buddhist weddings and Dalit weddings the same? Also, why was everyone embarrassed to attend it? It seemed really calm and chill. What exactly is a Buddhist wedding? True, we know nothing about them.

@@chiravuris Dalit's were shudras and were part of Hindu Religion.. Dr. Ambedkar fought for their rights, removed them from the religion which makes them inferior from other religions and adopted a new religion for them which preaches equality for all that religion is Buddhism.. So all Dalits along with Dr Ambedkar converted to Buddhism, that's why the Dalits are Buddhists.. and that's why they didn't want to attend it as their son is getting married to a Dalit girl.

@@Nonabacha43 Wait till you see the reality of class division in rural India. Now, I haven’t gone through anything, I’m a Brahmin too. But I’m dad works in a specialty that involves traveling to rural India a lot. The discrimination you see there is the worst. It’s not even about shame. It’s not treating them as even human beings. People complain about series that show this inequality that they’re not realistic. IT IS realistic. It’s just that the people that complain belong to urban India. These people are not even allowed to sit down or wear shoes (as per what my dad said, he was shocked at how people are treated). We don’t believe in untouchability and all that regressive crap. You were not. Your review makes it a point to highlight the importance of this series and the characters and this attitude is what is much needed in our society. Hold on! Hold on! Respectfully, Don't bring your sexist gender biased narrative here! Anmol clearly explained his reasonings for this show, which cries "ART IS SUBJECTIVE!" Also frankly speaking, apart from bulbul's episode & the other one-two., this season was mid af. If you're a TRP watcher, you must have known how much progressive indie, mainstream, regional films jammy supported, which you term "difference of man's pov"! Also the amount of cringeworthy, misogynistic films/interviews he pointed out, I barely know anyone else did. If not go n check, no? Listen my friend! EVERY REVIEWER DOES NOT NEED TO ALIGN WITH YOUR OPINIONS ON A FILM. so, stop LABELLING them otherwise, even if that's not the intent. Hatred is hurtful. P.s- I like sucharita's review too, but she missed out saying "buddhist weddings first of production kind". Which jammy details how "Sarpatta parambarai" pa ranjith already did.🤞

the only star of this season was bulbul jauhari and mr jauhari. Being a die hard MIH fan and having watched season 1 way too many times to be considered a normal fan and not an obsessed one, I think this season lacked soul. The writers were so focused on humanising the (main) characters, that they made the characters ultimately bland. so black and white. They just ended up being normal people taking decisions, not leads of a tv show with stories to tell. And the brides, where were the brides who are dramatic and chaotic af? Why were the women so nice, the brides so nice? so preachy omg. Cant believe this was the same team that gave us, "this is 5000 crore babe, and the parents are eventually gonna die" line. so fucking disappointed.

The show is worth watching for her character alone and Jazz. Tara and Karan felt a bit disconnected for me and they were growing in apathy for their brides and the people when last season they really cared about them. So I didn’t like them as much but I did like Taras storyline with Adil but I felt it was open ended. Y’all should definitely watch it,it’s worth it.

There were dark aspects in the last season, but there was also an endearing quality to how it all came together. This time around, just two episodes in, I am sad and tired. And especially as a gay guy, I am having secondhand stress on Karan's behalf Edit: very far down the show, I now feel that the season is just sublime, perhaps the best new age drama show that has come out of india. The story is so layered, complex and moving, and there's little I'd like in the show's intricacies to be different. Karan's journey is painful for me to watch because I am so attached to the character, but I am beginning to understand why the writers wrote like this. In a promo sobhita dhulipala said that this season is going to be a little bitter, it is, but so is life. Mona Singh is marvellous!! And, all the other actors were great!! It was a messy wrap up to almost every episode and the entire season most importantly, I mean Season 1 left us with such awe and a craving to look forward to Season 2, this Season lacks very well on many important points. They could have dived deeper into trans Meyer's life (I was honestly looking forward to it), actual life conflicts of lesbians, the depth of every black or grey emotion, Gauri Khanna's potential, Adil's wedding, Mitali's growth, Ishwak's character and etc etc etc., Few scenes were sixers beyond the stadium but still Season 1 was just epic!!... Kudos to everyone's efforts here but OMG, After S2, did I still crave for the essence of what they tried to portray, stirring my soul beyond its way back to stability!! Also in S2, E2: 36 min 12-14 sec in the show, as soon as the super "woke" Karan, Tara and Bulbul leave for the bride's fitting, did they hurt that dog or was it just crying, "heyy watch yourself man, I could've been hurt!??"

Bollywood Nepos... learn something from West... they laugh at u when u speak in english among yourself)... Secondly, all the issues raised in the series appeared so forced, and nothing was organic... The first season was much better in that respect... here, even issues like sexuality, introduction of a trans-gender character without any depth, caste issues without any depth... seemed very shallow... this show neither qualifies as fantastical as GoT or House of Dragons... nor it seems in the totally realistic zone ..... its basically a khichdi made to tick all boxes... to project themselves as woke and progressive... but the truth is that the story has no soul... when will indian filmmakers learn from series like Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, White Lotus, Only murders in the building, Komisky Method... that there is a lot beyond just making statements without any soul.. no character development... nothing.. a big thumbs down!!!

Also when Bhoppana says he did not hide Meher’s story because he did not see the need to, it was disgusting. He was trying to show that he’s so not bigoted and doesn’t care who knows her reality. He can be as unbigoted as he wants, but her story is not his to tell. She will tell whom she wants to when she wants to. The film makers did wrong by sexual minorities by doing this. Yes, someone’s sexuality should not matter and who we are with should be normalized, but the straight community does not sit around discussing their favorite positions either. Intimate details are nobody’s business but the couples. When people don’t think they have to pat themselves on the back for being with a sexual minority is when it is normalized. I also hated the wedding between the two lesbians. Why did they have to be on horses looking like fools? Why do they have to be outlandish? They are as normal as the next person. The Muslim woman trying to kill herself was ridiculous. She did not want to leave because she wouldn’t get custody of her kids, but by killing herself, somehow her kids would be protected? Yes, polygamy is deeply painful and could be challenged. What was awful however, was the way wife number two was flaunted by the husband and his family - that was the true crime. If it was banned, how would Hema and Dharmendra’s daughters be legal? And how would this same film fraternity and Indian public that has voted them into the Lok Sabha give them the respect that they do? In the Dalit story, they brought up a good point - the sister did not have the right to out her brother. She was using her privilege as an educated and lauded academic over him. That hypocrisy was never explored, and the brother simply showed up at the wedding. The entire series was insane - why would a woman who was badly beaten marry the abuser? Why would her family stand by her instead of putting the man in jail? Why wouldn’t the woman be in therapy and learn to be strong? With the Bollywood couple, why continue the sham marriage? Why wouldn’t the bride walk away, talk about what the groom did to the press and completely screw him over? Why in every single story was the woman wronged? She was not fair enough, she was being married for money, she was beaten, she was a Dalit, she was abused… Finally when is Mathur’s character going to get therapy? Yes, his mom abused him, yes he’s scared, get help instead of using addiction to sex and substances. Use your platform to normalize getting mental health services.

Sorry rant not over. Why is Dhulipulia so weak? She had the right to fight for a better settlement, but in both series 1 and 2 she used sex as a way to get ahead and rich. When is a strong woman going to get what is rightfully hers through smarts and hard work. Bulbul and Jazz were the only characters with any amount of self respect. Meher had some but she went back to the guy who outed her!?? When are women going to tell stories about women who are strong, self confident and have self respect?

I absolutely loved the first season and have raved about it quite a bit so I was obviously very excited when the trailer dropped, but I am beyond disappointed. The writing is so... Surface level. The characters are cardboard, I couldn't give a f about any of these people. I loved Vijay Raaz and whatever little they did for his character. It seemed like a college paper with woke words littered after every two sentences. I loved the aesthetic of the last season but this season is only riding on the aesthetic and nothing else, as if that's a substitute for good writing and plot points. The writers seemed to be grasping at straws for storyline for the characters. A question. If Adil was struggling with his fertility then how come he fathered a child with Faiza? Seems convenient to bring the story forward. Good actors like Ashwaq Singh and vikrant Massey are completely wasted. Ps. Halfway through the last episode I started to feel like it was the Archies trailer.

2 mins into the review and I am thoroughly bored. While I have always loved your reviews, here is a quick critique of why you went wrong in this one and also a few suggestions for the upcoming reviews: 1. The fact that you dont remember Made In Heaven Season 1 plot, having not revisited it at all shows poor memory on your part. Should it be a part of your review? I dont know. Why dont you remember it? Was it not palatable, was the show too complex for you to remember the small intricacies of it or is it a memory issue? Nonetheless, spending 1 minute on it was a poor waste of time. 2. Women telling women stories is great and I love it. But these are weddings, and its a story of both men and women! Just as much Tara's as it is of Karan. 3. The timing of the show and saying that its off is completely bizarre. The fact that you saw a poster of 2021 in one of the episodes, doesnt make it a COVID year. Should people be wearing masks while discussing important issues about sexism, discrimination, prejudices and laws like 377 and polygamy? Ah, discussing these would have made for a comprehensive review of the series. Suggestions: 1. Lower your pace. You seem to eat punctuations and its very difficult as a viewer to follow-up with the long sentences without proper accentuation of pauses. 2. Attempt to clear the facts from the beginning. For instance, you mentioned that the series is directed by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti. But please, its directed by 3 other prominent filmmakers: Alankrita, Neeraj and Nitya. Fascination with Zoya Akhtar, as visible in your other interviews is palpable, but please lets try to give others the credit they deserve! Infact, Warrior Princesses which dealt with complex issues of LGBTQIA, domestic abuse and polygamy was directed by Alankrita! PS: Didnt want to sound rude or a troll at any given point of time. But just a honest opinion!

Completely agree. The season's star was Mona Singh. However, I am horrified to see what the show really represents. I understand completely the LGBTQ movement, having been in the UK last 22 years. However, the show was ramming the message down our throats all the time. But absolutely horrfied that the female lead is shown as a vicious gold-digger - its as if makers have a message that gold-digging is okay. It's not. And I guess the way forward for all young couples - coming from opposite sides of priviledge - should do a pre-nup before the marriage.

Sharing mine, too much burdened toh R and R ke Prem kahani bhee thee na, 2.48 packed with every problem possible with every member on the screen, yeh toh phir bhee 7 episodes mein divided hai with problems and issues and flawedness distributed btwn multiple people... I guess it's in style to just keep harping on the same issues now, it's tad boring by now. What I really enjoyed was the storylines of the made in heaven team progressing towards what they really want in their lives and owning it. Mona singh as bulbul absoluely mesmerizing as swaggy businesswoman and vulnerable mom 2. The class distinctions of the very poor nadeem being used by middle class jazz who in turn is being looked down upon by photographer babu. 3. The dusky complexion girl episode was very realistic and very deftly handled 4. Chemistry between jim sarbh and kalki was buttery and effortless... Watch the series but skip the sex scenes ....they are quite irritating in story flow.

Big fan of yours, but I just don't agree with you on this. I mean, you liked Pathaan for god's sake and criticising MIH even if there were so so so many positive aspects I can write down- 1. Mona Singh's character - PERFECT 2. Meher's addition to the team and they casted a trans character to play!!! Also, her personal problems were shown quite accurately. 3. Every single type of wedding was shown. How fresh is that!!!!!!! 4. Arjun, Tara, Jaz and Kabir - everyone's personal life was shown, their families had some role to play, their struggles apart from their job made it even more complex and real 5. Small small beautiful roles - Sabyasachi and Vikrant Massey 6. The casting was on point. Not a single time I felt that someone is wrong for the role. 7. Tara and Karan's friendship 8. The sad reality behind weddings I can continue mentioning things like these. Please have integrity while reviewing everything and don't judge every movie/ TV series using an entirely different microscope. PS : I LOVE YOU SO SO SO MUCH And love to see you more. You're a star for me and honestly the best and funniest critic I've ever watched. Sorry I got emotional towards MIH and wrote all this. I've never thought of doing it to you. Why don't Indie films get reviewed here, what's the point of talking about movies and stuff which are already in conversation, I understand it's your bread and butter, but some light can also be shed on films that aren't backed by big producers and don't make headlines. Along with Oppenheimer and Barbie there were many other projects released, no utter words about them. That's sad, how will we change the face of indie cinema.
