To be honest i really dont know the price i did not check yet the shimano website i just believe what they are announcing about the product and the price hehe
Ahahah good one. I remember filming with Chris in 2013 when he had a trashed Specialized Demo 2010 with no more transmission, play everywhere, no brake pads on the front, a huge bubble on the rear break, and basically the bike was un rideable, but he will still bomb down fire roads to come and shoot out Whistler Bike Park edits! Hard worker and great dude he is!
I never tried X01 or XX1, but i have a GX Eagle groupset. Switched the shifter and derailleur to an XT after the second GX derailleur bent (without even bending the hanger). The XT derailleur feels much more high-quality and costs the same. And the Sram Guide RS brakes were awful, changed to Magura MT7, but Shimano brakes feel nice too.
You're a truly real friend Sir Paul! Can you imagine you gave your brandnew dropper post just to make your friend bike work properly! A very kind friend!
Had to have added several links to the chain for that kind of droop. Or it was improperly sized in the first place. And those guide brakes work great when they are bled. Also sram shifting is pretty nice too if your derailleur hanger isnt bent. He had a nice kit already, would be nice if he just took care of it and didnt treat it like disposable commodity.
@@google_account_ guides are absolutely worse than deores lmao. The only sram brakes worth batting an eye to are code rsc. Not even code r's are worth looking at.
Long Long ago, I realized when riding, get something of a good level of components for a bike. The feel, the light touch, precision impact will make me smile and enjoy my sport so much more. Thanks for sorting this chaps life out.
@@yaishmatheen4274 Yo, he is sponsored by this brand, and it's misleading to his viewers to say you can make your mountain bike feel brand new for $600. Unless you also can get mountain bike stuff for free?
@@yaishmatheen4274 My point is that considering how many changes they did end up doing, just changing the drivetrain for just under $600 absolutely does not make his mountain bike feel brand new.
As someone who has friends that don’t take care of their bikes, I have given up helping them when they need to do repairs. Like, dude, if you don’t care for your bike, I’m not even going to bother. I am way more enthusiastic to help the friends I know spend time washing and servicing their bike.
Such a cool thing to do for your buddy. I bet that he was totally blown away when it finally sank in just how much you and Dan had done to his bike. You da man Paul. 👍👍
Cracking video Paul! Just changed my drivetrain from GX Eagle to SLX 12spd and omd, the shifting is so crisp and the levers just feel so positive. Totally understand why you're with Shimano! Keep pinning it dude!🤙
Hey, i love biking and i do it for a living. I deliver food for a living 5 days a week. When i am not i do bike rides to different trails in tornado. I have a walmart gravel bike which had cheap wheels, tires. Had bar end index shifting and chinese rear derailleur which sucks. It has a 1x9 drivetrain. I really like taking it to the trails so i did a few upgrades. New rear wheel with a cassette instead of a freewhee but only 11t-28t as I couldn’t afford to wait 6-8weeks buying at AliExpress or pay 100-150$ for a 10-46t on Amazon. Then i added sensah brifters and some nice bartapes which work really really nice. And finally added cable actuation type hydraulic brake calipers and finally added compressionless housing all around. Recently the drop handle bars slip on jumps, the bottom bracket is really bad and creaks and doesn’t move freely. The pedals are really really gunky inside so dont move. Wheels and disks are all out of align. Bar tape wasn’t done on point, theres things stuck inside the frame. The rear derailleur doesn’t have a clutch so its really bad. Front crank is bent. Brakes rub. And finally the hub is silent which i hate also it doesn’t move freely. If you wanna try doing a gravel bike for a change and wanna help out a fan then consider this comment. Ps i live in toronto. Anyways, love your content and love seeing you brings bikes back to life.
My first full sus bike had deore components and they worked great. I recently swapped my drivetrain, except the cassette, to XT 12 speed. Love the Shimano feel. I was pretty disappointed when Santa Cruz stopped offering a Shimano build on their affordable builds. Nice work on the video.
@@Adam-xo7cv easy answer both. The lever has the adjustments I think you're w/o dering about but to center the calipers the brake itself needs to be adjustable just so the pads don't rub. I think my rotors are the 200mm kind and I've rode down an EWS line at North Star in California and they held the same grip as they did at the top of the run.
Benjamin Rozier go to any bike shop and ask for the Jagwire internal cable foam. I just got this and its cheap, easy to install and works a treat.. jagwire.com/products/small-parts/internal-housing-damper
Brilliant guys! Generosity is how company and content creators should make the world better. Glad the new tech trickles down too. Good for us who buff up older bikes to keep price low. My Turner was $850 total with new GX 10 speed, sunrace, maxxis, raceface bars. Shifts like a dream and gets me out there. Adding a dropper post eventually and keeping it under $1000.
Such a feel good video. I built a young lad a full bike because his mum could not afford to get him one and the look in his face when i gave him it was amazing!
Hey Paul, a while back I commented that I was growing weary of the RU-vid look at all my free shit videos, that I was here to watch the riding, not all the "free" stuff you were getting as a result of your hard work. Well videos like this have me easting my words. Not that you need my, or anyone's kudos, but kudos to you for using your powers for good! Haha Anyway, have a good one, and stay safe... Thats amazing that you were able to do that for your friend. What I wouldn't give to get one free thing for once. But the Deore set is now definitely on my wish list for sure!
My first Deore groupset was 6 speed in the v early 90's quite quickly followed by XT, HG, 7 Speed and other tweaks were welcome (we will forget about biopace) whilst Deore became Deore DX for a bit (with the cheaper Deore LX, which was a bit rough back then tbh), the name and reassuring quality has stood the test of time
I’m still riding my 2019 giant reign with the lower end shimano group set and I love it. Imagine with that whole set up haha game changer for me if it was to happen. Good stuff Paul. Keep up the great vibes man!
Costs only like 50 bucks for slx, I laced my wheel up with the new hub within a day, rebuilding a wheel is actually really good to do and teaches u stuff so I would say it’s worth it
used to have a devinci spartan absolute solid bike i had blown the shock, drive train was worn out chain was mega stretched, thrashed the wheels. Broke a brake lever and a reverb lever. still was a solid bike. But one service got it in lovely condition
Could you please do a video with dan explaining how to prevent the things that happened with the bike in the beginning in the first place? Just simple replacement and maintenance with a time or mileage frame? Just like your fork service one, that was great!
Well that would be a great one, but there’s nothing I can add to everything else on the internet! Just check with a chain checker regularly and take it to your local shop if you’re unsure.
Ok. Thanks Paul. I just thought your fork service one was so funny and it’s really nice to see someone who is an average person, not crazy good mechanic who works at a bike shop, but someone who has the same issues as us. And having dan there is cool to see because he’s there to correct you and gives some great insight though! I always watch your videos smiling or have learned something after!
The problem with the gears was the deraillieur hanger. The problem with the brakes probably a bleed and breakpads. I could gave made the bike feel new for $60. $80 if you add a new chain
Your friend is a lucky friend. With the crisis going on, this groupset won't come anytime soon. Can't wait to see it, cause plan to check out the brake lever.
nice i like these videos fixing people bikes its a nice group set . as soon as my 11 speed stops working i will be changing it i would like free stuff lol . thank youPaul for another good video
Super Top video jajajajaj. Now I feel big motivated to get on the trail myself, what gets me going the longest while bike is *Delta Parole* or other rokk music!
I dont even have shifting anymore my shift cable said I'm done with live and snapped and all the bike shops are filled up rn and I also need and brake fluid Change because most of the movement on the fingers for the brake levers is just like a 63% dead zone there's no braking there.
Nice one, mate! Next time you could send some of that new gear over to Brazil ( my address, obviously), where bike parts are super expensive, making it almost impossible to assembled a decent bike, as taxes will eat you alive. Make my day! Bye from Brazil!
Nice to see you do something nice for your friends. Im looking at that new drive train for my felt decree. I just have to figure out if they will fit on my shimano deore hubs. With 142mm spacing. Time to replaced my 10 spd set up. Hopefully when this covid thing is over I'll still have a job and can save up for it.
That was truly awesome, Paul. Could you possibly make my 2005 Hardrock a 2020 Stumpjumper? I'd totally take a Scott if you'd prefer. It is my birthday today... 😁
I have the same brakes and drivetrain as he did before, he just was really bat at basic maintenance. My bike works like a charm. He just didnt care I think. Hopefully he'll do better on this drivetrain
Paul I have a 1x10 drivetrain 11-40t cog and I def want to switch to an 11 or 12 speed. I would like a 50 t. So I can climb steep punchy climbs without burning out so fast. What would be the best but cheapest option possible? I know very kittle about bike mechanics etc so thamks in advance e for the help. Also I want to echo whatbone of the other guys said abiut you beimg a good friend. You hooked bobo up amd now this video. You go above an beyond amd this is within just hit the sun button.
Jesus 12 speeds is crazy. Also, looking for an entry level hardtail, do you suggest a Diamondback Hook? Looking around the 700 dollar price range. All these MTB YT channels has gotten me into the sport :).
Bit of a random question but on your old trek did you use the knock block feature? Because I’ve bought a trek and I’m wondering if there’s anyway to remove it.
