MADEIRA, may 2012 - MONTE village atractions : toboggan's raides, levadas dos Tornos and do Bon Sucesso, Botanical Garden, Church of Our Lady of Monte , cablecars to Funchal and to Jardins do Palheiro.
MONTE is a small village perched up in the hills overlooking Funchal - 6 km away from the centre of Funchal.
Toboggan raides downhill to Funchal is about 10 minutes on total cours of 2 km -attracts thousands of tourists.Originally fast mean of transport for people of Monte from ab. 1850.
The other possibilily from Monte is walking along Lavadas dos Torros and do Bon Sucesso. ''Levada'' is irrigation system developped to distibute water from the rainfall heavy and wet regions on yhe north of Madeira. In total they have ab. 2500 km and date from the early 16 century.
