Hi Sebastian. Thanks for posting this video. My wife and I will be visiting Madeira in March and hope to try some of the fruits you recommended. Cheers!
That "tomato" fruit called tomate inglês is actually sweet but unfortunately it is harvested too early and when that happens... the fruit is not sweet at all. You should taste poncha of this fruit. Its delicious! Filodendro.. lol. Funny thing is that i have that fruit growing in my garden... no one eats it.. we only grow that plant for its beautiful leaves. Oh please! Dont go to the fruit market!!! Go there.. take some pictures but dont buy the fruit. Or buy it but only at friday afternoon and saturday morning in the ground floor, central part... lateral stalls and stalls on first floor are so expensive!! You can find those fruits at half price in fruit shops. Maybe not all the fruits but most of them. You missed some other fruits like araçal.. smaller than goiaba and more sweeter... so so good. Also there is indian figs (fruit from a cactus plant), tangerine which is very very fragrant and sweet at christmas time and perfect to make poncha, we also have a specific type of apple called pêro... its small, sweet and sour at same time.. mango from Madeira is smaller but much more sweeter because the sugars are more concentrated... i think i have missed so other fruits... but welll.. by the way, im from Madeira. Hope you enjoy your stay here. I just ask to please.. if you go on trails.. never go alone, use adequate shoes for hiking and take your trash with you. Thank you!
I was the other day at a fruit stand in Funchal and decided to go for a monstera fruit, a local mango, a yellow dragon fruit and a yellow passion fruit. Just to taste a wee bit of evth. And the fruit monger charged me 23 bloody euros! For a kilo and a half! It was definitely a rip-off, I remember I paid appx 5 times less in Vietnam two years ago for the same, fruit was so cheap there. But, I must admit the monstera, passion fruit and dragon fruit were delicious. The mango was a bit flat in flavor and sour. The other fruits, like the English tomato, guava and something else were nearly tasteless and not impressing.
@@garyweaver5512 like i said... choose a place where locals go. Much cheaper. English tomato is very delicious and super sweet if it´s grown in the nothern side of the island, where it´s colder.
U shouldn’t get the fruits from the big market because some of them don’t actually sell madeira fruits. Make sure to buy your fruit from farmers from the outside!
I garantee that the fruits in the video were grown in Madeira for sure.. those fruits are easy to grow... some are invasive....But, yes, other common fruits like apples or oranges... i believe those are imported.
@@sarafaria4155 yh most of the island specialty fruits are most likely grown there but the common worldwide fruits could be from other countries. Anonas are so good.
