I like that she's not just quirky because of the sake of "being quirky". Her madness is simply normal in the world she comes from, and half of the things she says and does simply applys to the rules of Wonderland. _Thats_ how you write Wonderland characters.
While everyone questions and judges Maddie Raven accepts her. That's what comforts me since I was a weird kid who everyone judged and never really got accepted.
Her voice actress did an amazing job with her, the voice and personality fit what you would think a Mad Hatter or his kid would act or sound like. Maddie is awesome!
@@yourlocaldemon2195 part of the reason i don't like descendants mostly because of the fact it wasn't interesting and a very small part of it was that there was this extremely annoying kid in my class that was a descendants superfan and it was all sh would talk about basically
Oh yeah- I always relate to those characters like younger me related to Maddie sm, but the Netflix “quirky” characters just end up being well not exactly done right.
@@Meg_intheclouds younger me ADORED maddie for embracing herself. now this kind of “quirky” is seen as weird and disturbing. netflix fails to represent kids who act differently nowadays, eah nailed it. bring back eah
@@lauvayed omg right! But like the word “quirky” seems to be overused in a way but then the people who naturally are like that get outcast as weirdos. Also raise your hand if you related to Maddie and now you are older are researching (and hopefully may get a diagnosis) for ADHD/Autism? 🙋🏻♀️
The decision to make Maddie able to hear the narrators was GENIUS and you can tell they really care about the characters. Maddie is and has ALWAYS BEEN my favorite character. Maybe that's just cause I read the wonderlandiful world book tho (it gave me a real appreciation for Lizzie too please read it omg it's so good)
Why doesn't anyone write that the Mad Hatter is one of the few really good parents in this show? He supports his daughter, makes her laugh when she is sad. And he's proud of her. (In general, I noticed that the parents from the Wonderland are the best in this show. Of those that were shown to us, of course. Even Queen of Hearts)
I love how they animated the hair. In most shows it's static and in place when characters move, Ever After High has it move around at the slightest movement.
I've always loved the "wacky, weird and crazy in a cute way" characters lol. I guess maybe it's because I'm not neuro-typical and I used to be much more insecure about being "unusual" or whatever (now I'm fine, mental problems are nothing to be ashamed of), so seeing characters who are a positive representation of over the top weirdness made me feel both more accepted and relieved that "compared to them I'm totally normal" lol. Anyway Madeline and Raven were 100% friendship goals (some people might say they're couple goals them but I see them more as friends, though if you see them as a couple that's cool, I prefer to think of Raven and Apple's relationship as romantic: they embody "opposites attract" and the fact that they're at odds at first but grow close and it's really heartwarming because they're very different and their plans for the future clash but they surpass those obstacles and work it out is just so heartwarming and it's an interesting storyline; they kind of remind me of Glinda and Elphaba in Wicked), at the begining of the series she was the only one (or basically the only one) who fully accepted Raven and didn't prejudge her, and they just had this lovely wholesome relationship. Her relationship with the other characters (like Apple or some other royals) were also really sweet in the sense that they get over their differences and accept each other; but the utterly wholesome unconditional friendship/love from day one type friendship/relationship (I said I liked to interpret Raven and Apple as having a romantic relationship but not everyone's monogamous so why not interpret Madeline and Raven as girlfriends as well lol) between Raven and Madeline was just so freaking wholesome lol.
Raven: the tall, edgy, nice girl Maddie: the slightly insane friend Apple: the selfish pretty popular girl Ashlynn: the fashionista Briar: the one that sleeps through everything
Nahh I feel like apple is better than that. I mean, she grew up in a horrible household where she was constantly told from when she was a kid that she didn't have any worth if she didn't act the way she did. I feel like she's just trying her best
@@riyak.7393 but she’s so unpredictable and it’s fucking hard to like her. One episode she’s nice and being a decent friend, but then the next, she’s back to being a selfish brat who puts others at risk. It’s hard to root for her when she’s always going back on her words and shifting from being good to plain horrible
@@MeemahSN apple was never plain horrible if you watch the show she was a genuine good person who most of the time was manipulated by the grownups around her. But when Raven sign the book and could’ve been evil she was the one to save her a selfish person wouldn’t have done that and in the dragon games it was the manipulation of the evil queen and Snow White that made her do the bad things she did for which she showed regret so you clearly didn’t watch the show right
something i love about this show is that some animators like to care more about the visuals, and some like to make better/smoother animation without that much details, but this show makes both incredible! The animation is just stunning
I really like Maddie. She's goofy, eccentric, and a bit bombastic, but it's clear she really has a kind heart and a warm demeanor. It really makes me happy to see her friends with Raven.
What's great about Raven and Maddie's friendship is that 1) it's a genuine one between a royalty and commoner (Raven IS a princess after all and Maddie is a hatmaker + teashop owner's daughter, the only other meaningful relationship that broke social status is Hunter and Ashlynn) and 2) Maddie and Raven are supportive and respectful towards each others' desire when it comes to their destiny (Maddie would be a Royal since she is fine with following in her father's steps but she supports Raven and is a Rebel because of it, Raven in turn doesn't pressures Maddie to do something else than be a mad hatter because Maddie is a Rebel)
Madeline + raven are literally the platonic version of "the sunshiney one is in love with the grumpy emo one" and i love them for that - right up there in the top ten most iconic TV duos
I love that raven embraces maddies madness and maddie accepts raven going against her destiny both are considered outcasts but have found amazing friendship with each other
That is actually quite an interesting subject to speculate about! According to the books, the school was split into two social groups even BEFORE the royal/rebel conflict: Royals and Commoners. Maddie was considered a commoner (while Raven was a royal) and when the switch from Royals and Commoners to Royals and Rebels happened I guess it was just strange or odd for the actual royals to consider Maddie a royal aswell since she was just so, well, not royal. Or it just never came up. My guess is that in Maddie's case it's less of a question of "is Maddie a royal or a rebel?", but rather the general viewpoint of "no matter what, Maddie will always be a non-royal". Well, either that or it's just because she supports the Rebels' point of view and I'm just overthinking it.
@@non-alcoholicmartini7994 lol I never read the books, but I used to watch the show while babysitting my moms friends kid. I initially thought it was a good vs evil type thing but after thinking about it I was like that doesn’t make sense? So then I thought about it with the idea of class divide and it made a loooot more sense
Like Cedar, she wants her destiny (making her an oddity in terms of alignment), but she doesn’t think that it’s fair or right for others to be forced to follow theirs. (Duchess Swan is also an oddity in terms of alignment, as is Cedar.)
I had a friend who I told that I loved Madeleine Hatter and she was just like me fr and she told me that I'm not like her, because she's cute and quirky, and I was just weird. I never forgot what she said
God, yeah! The books are so GOOD, ESPECIALLY with the way Shannon Hale wrote Maddie. She has so much more depth in the books that is never really explored in the show like how deep her friendship with Raven goes or how much fleeing Wonderland is affecting her. I also really enjoyed the crossover book! Though that might just be because Brooke is favorite.
Honestly, her and Kitty (or all of the other wonderland characters in Ever after high) interactions are so genuine. Really tells the lore just from their communication.
Love Maddie. If you read the books, and while they don’t outright mention it, being Raven’s only friend pre-series, it seemed she really saved her from a very dark place.
3:46 i LOVE her voice in the scene Especially when she says "have been watching you" like- also Maddie and kitty are in love and u cant tell me otherwise.
I have always loved characters like pinkie pie, madeline hatter, the Mad hatter, luna Lovegood, and i have just recently started to realize its because I relate to them in humor and personality lmao
i remember watching this show YEARS ago it was one of my favorites. this brought back pleasant memories :) i remember i got a book that had all these characters in it. great times
Still trying to figure out why this show was cancelled. I use to watch it when I was 10 and I loved it! Last year I decided to rewatch it to see if it was actually good like I remembered it and as an adult it still holds up as a good show.
I remember when I was younger I had a relative give my sister a doll of this character. We opened it and got rid of the box and pretty much the next day forgot her name and what show/movie she came from. I told my sister it was Maddie and she called me crazy but we stuck with the name since we had nothing else. Now, years later, this video shows up in my recommendations. It's actually nice to finally know her name. I was pretty close. The doll was my sister's and I was given a different character but she was lost and now we only have Madeline. Yes, I made my sister keep the doll. I don't know why but I think it's because we used to always play with her.
I love her so much. My favorite line in the entirety of EAH is Maddie’s “It’s my hat, she doesn’t like my hat”. I don’t know why it’s the best thing ever
lol i don’t think she’s straight either infact I ship her with Lizzie xD I’ve not finished the whole show yet though so if they end up being related I take that back 😂💖
Ugh! Out of all the fictional worlds out there, Ever After High would be the one I would want to be in. Madeline is, and will always be my favorite character. This show will always be in my heart. I was so sad when I found out it got cancelled.
