I was listening to this and my sister obsessed with murder mysteries that was sitting beside me playing roblox suddenly started theorizing. She was like: OMG I feel like she's blind and was kidnapped by two people who keep her because they lost their daughter that looked like her and murdered her parents, (out with the old in with the new) and she knew these people weren't really her parents and the stench down by the bay she thought to be her actual parents corpses but the people who kidnapped her told her they were just rotting watermelons (my parents lie, he isn't real) . (don't trust the man from the sand) and she knows but has to keep pretending she doesn't until she finds a way to get away. ( if you go home, just don't get caught). And I was like: That sounds like a tiktok pov you watched earlier-
Hol up- what if they did this with two children and one tried to go home but were caught so the parents killed them. That's why it says "your Mothet" (when it was only the other child) "Our mother" (then when the girl you see in the video is also taken) "My mother" (when the other child gets killed)
Maybe she is adopted and they are "fake" parents bc her real parents died and maybe the man at the bay was were she was picked up by child protective services. Maybe her parents died down by the bay*drowning* and maybe she was being abused by her adoptive parents 🤔
this is based on the nursery rhyme "down by the bay" it goes like this Lyrics Down by the bay (Down by the bay) where the watermelons grow (where the watermelons grow) Back to my home (Back to my home) I dare not go (I dare not go) For if I do, (For if I do, ) my mother will say, (my mother will say, ) "Have you ever seen a duck driving a truck, down by the bay?" Down by the bay (Down by the bay) where the watermelons grow (where the watermelons grow) Back to my home (Back to my home) I dare not go (I dare not go) For if I do, (For if I do, ) my mother will say, (my mother will say, ) "Have you ever seen a goat cruising on a boat, down by the bay?" Down by the bay (Down by the bay) where the watermelons grow (where the watermelons grow) Back to my home (Back to my home) I dare not go (I dare not go) For if I do, (For if I do, ) my mother will say, (my mother will say, ) "Have you ever seen a mouse building a house, down by the bay?" Down by the bay (Down by the bay) where the watermelons grow (where the watermelons grow) Back to my home (Back to my home) I dare not go (I dare not go) For if I do, (For if I do, ) my mother will say, (my mother will say, ) "Have you ever seen a frog dancing on a log, down by the bay?" Down by the bay (Down by the bay) where the watermelons grow (where the watermelons grow) Back to my home (Back to my home) I dare not go (I dare not go) For if I do, (For if I do, ) my mother will say, (my mother will say, ) "Have you ever seen a bee sipping ice tea, down by the bay?" Down by the bay Down by the bay
this song blows my mind! when i was a kid i had a nightmare & the nursery rhyme this is based on was in that nightmare. its always stuck with me and the nursery rhyme itself has always given me eerie vibes because of that. the lyrics of this are so relatable to me in such specific ways and! wow! thank you for making this exist! listening to it makes me cry, i've never had such a deep connection to a song like this before
Down by the bay (down by the bay) Where the watermelon rot (where the watermelon rot) If you go home (if you go home) Just don’t get caught (just don’t get caught) My theory: 2 sisters lived in a home down by a bay. When one was really little, she was segually assaulted (literally to death) and the mother, who had also gone through something similar but survived had night terrors even thinking about it and killed the man who did it. The family loved to eat watermelon, but after awhile, the mom stopped eating and started letting the plants rot down by the bay. Her mom and the living sister moved away. But the living sister started getting dreams of her sister down by the bay. Telling her to go to the house, but don’t get caught. There was a diary her mom made. She needed to read it. And she found out her mom telling her her entire life that her sister wasn’t real was a lie.
I personally interpret it as a woman who was drowned by a stranger down by the beach late one night, and she later became a town legend. This is in my eyes at least, her ghost thinking about her past and subsequently her murder, and how when she was a kid "stranger danger" was pounded into her. Amazing video, it's creepy in just the perfect way! Have a lovely day ms/mr/mx!🏳️🌈
I'm beginning to make a story out of this song. Thank you for the inspiration! This song is a great one, and it was a complete accident to find it! Thank you!
Does this song put anyone else in a trance or is it just me? I be rocking back and forth while mumbling the lyrics and only realize it when the song is over-
New theory (even though its over a year old, its new to me) A girl is kidnapped by people who hide on this deserted island where they bring the girl. They have to grow their own food to live because they can't go to stores, such as watermelon (that or watermelon is what the kidnappers told the girl a decaying head was). 0:06 "If you go home, don't get caught" refers to the girl trying to get back to her real life. She knows if she got caught trying to leave the island, things won't end well for her. 0:16 "YOUR mother will say, never trust a man under the sand down by the bay" to me this sounds like there are dead bodies buried in the sand. The bodies of people who came looking for the girls (plural, which I'll say why after). Then the ghost(s) of the dead bodies will talk to the girls and tell them parts of the truth, but the kidnappers don't want them to believe the ghost(s). Now I said plural because the girl says "your mother", meaning that there are more than one victim these people have taken to this island. 0:32 "know in my dream, I'll see her there" is the girl referring to her real mother, saying that when she dreams (or even dies) she will finally be able to see her real mother again. 0:38 "she isn't real, my parents lie" could mean the "mother" on the island isn't the real mother and they lie about being so. 0:47 "I know the truth but I could never tell you or they will all cry" the girl knows what's going on and wants to tell the other victims. But she can't because she knows they will cry. 1:09 Now she says "OUR mother will say, dont run away ill keep you safe down by the bay". The girl is becoming close to the other victims and to comfort them, she calls the kidnapper "mother". She is also probably becoming more familiar with this lifestyle, but she still knows that she was kidnapped. Also the "mother" is trying to comfort the victims from leaving and telling them they're safe. 1:19 "My fathers home, got me new shoes" The "father" came home and gave the girl new shoes. My guess is he got them from another victim, probably because he killed them (which will make sense later). 1:32 And like the "mother", she says "he isn't real," meaning that the "father" also is a fake parent pretending to be the real father. 1:35 "My parents lie. I know the truth but I can never tell you or they will all die" the girl wants to tell the other victims, but if she did that the victims would try to retaliate and either die at sea, or die from being caught. So she plays into this fantasy world on the island and keeps everything safe... for now 2:02 "MY mother would say, you dont want to know what's outside the window down by the bay" at this point the other victims found out the truth and all have died trying to run (which is how the father got new shoes, they washed up to shore and found them or he took them from a victim he killed). The girl knows she's alone and now uses "MY mother" as she's the only child now. Then the "mother" doesn't want the girl to see the bodies of other victims (or anyone who came searching). 2:13 *intense/scary music and shocked faces* as well as her swimming 2:34 *girl is seen walking over the hill* The music and girl walking down the hill probably show the the girl found all of the bodies and went to check on them, so that was her reaction (or at least found out they all died). The "parents" have found out the victims knew the truth, and so they thought it was best to murder the rest of the victims before anything got out of hand. But the girl hid that she knew. Either way she was probably next and she knew she should run away. TWIST in the theory, the girl knows she should run away, as she saw all of the other victims bodies cut up on the beach (maybe the heads were the watermelon, or they may actually be watermelon. Either fits), meaning the girl was going to be used as food. Even though she has no chances of surviving the sea, she knows its the better option.
I have a theory may not be good but oh well The parents had a daughter, they killed her and left her body near the bay, they then adopted another girl, who can see the dead daughter. The parents said that it was a man by the bay that killed their other daughter but the girl knows its a lie. The dead daughter tells her everything, in the form of this song.
same except for me, i have always had a connection to water, like even after nearly drowning i still love the water, and if i could i would live near the ocean
I think the "bay" is an abandoned place that u aren't allowed to go to since it says" don't get caught" Also when she says their arent real I think she means the animals in the nursery rhyme that this is based on like for example"have you ever seen a pony eating macaroni down by the bay?" And "have you ever seen a fish hula in a dish down by the bay?" Down by the bay where the watermelons rot is obviously the opposite of the nursery rhyme lyric down by the bay where the watermelons grow In the original song there also creepy feeling in the lyric "back to my home I dare not go" then they say"for if I do my mother will say(example have u ever seen a fish hula in a fish down by the bay?)"
The light in my bathroom flickers a lot and I was charging my phone in the bathroom (don’t ask) and the light flickered with the music and I’m ✨ uncomfy ✨ now.
my theory: a girl lives in a very isolated city, and used to date a serial killer. she was not aware he was a serial killer, and he would take her to a specific beach every day. little did she know that the beach is where he would dump the bodies of his victims. her mother knew about this, because he tried killing her one time. he ended up getting caught, and the girlfriend is traumatized. he gets caught because his girlfriend went down one night, not being able to sleep, and saw him burying a body under the sand and rocks. the girl takes pictures, to show the police. shes startled, and makes sure he doesnt see her. she takes a step back to leave, and runs into another dead body. the body stains her white blouse, and she makes her way out. she shows the pictures to the police, which causes him to get sent out to a prison. the images are engraved in her brain, and sometimes she gets hallucinations of those pictures. her father buys her a blouse thats exactly alike to the one she got blood on, and shes scared. he said its because he knew it was her favorite, and noticed it was gone. she then went to the beach, while her mother reminded her that if she sees him, hes just a hallucination. she goes there in the new blouse, and sees a figure. she thinks its a hallucination, and tries to calm her mind. when she notices the figure getting closer, she gets even more scared. she then gets killed by her father, who was working with the boyfriend the entire time. he then dumps her where she stained her blouse, and remains married to the completely oblivious mother. never getting caught.
There aren’t any theory’s and stuff like…y’all need to watch behind the scenes and watch that,bc her and her friend made that song not bc of her childhood or whatever.
A couple of teenagers boys and one girl live in a small beach house..while they walk around the beach they hear running behind them and then someone grabs their hand and leave the girl behind. She goes in the shed and the only thing she can bring is her diary( about the boys that she liked ) ,shoes and a couple of watermelons. She decides to rip all the pages from her diary because when she tries to go back in the beach house it’s locked. After, she commits suicide by drowning herself in the sand, and a rotting watermelon rolls onto her body. The boys that lived in the beach house came back as adults and with a woman and when they go in the beach house the woman(the mum) discovers that the girl committed suicide. She warns the men by singing this song. Later on she has a baby and the baby grew older and as she grew her mother would still sing her this song, the child (which is a girl) decides to discover the beach and finds (the girl who committed suicide’s) body. And now this is her in the music video. YASSS
Here is part of the song! (the og one) Down by the bay (Down by the bay) where the watermelons grow. (where the watermelons grow.) Back to my home (Back to my home), I dare not go. (I dare not go.) For if I do, (For if I do,) my mother will say, (my mother will say,) “Have you ever seen a duck driving a truck, down by the bay?” Down by the bay (Down by the bay) where the watermelons grow. (where the watermelons grow.) Back to my home (Back to my home), I dare not go. (I dare not go.) For if I do, (For if I do,) my mother will say, (my mother will say,) “Have you ever seen a goat cruising on a boat, down by the bay?”
The song was based on world war I it was a children’s song *Down by the bay* Where the watermelons grow Back to my home I dare not go For if I do My mother will say "Did you ever you ever see a goose kissing a moose?" Down by the bay Down by the bay Where the watermelons grow Back to my home I dare not go For if I do My mother will say "Did you ever see a whale With a polka dot tail?" Down by the bay Down by the bay Where the watermelons grow Back to my home I dare not go For if I do My mother will say "Did you ever see a fly Wearing a tie?" Down by the bay Down by the bay Where the watermelons grow Back to my home I dare not go For if I do My mother will say "Did you ever see a bear Combing his hear?" Down by the bay Down by the bay Where the watermelons grow Back to my home I dare not go For if I do My mother will say "Did you ever see a llama Eating pajamas?" Down by the bay Down by the bay Where the watermelons grow Back to my home I dare not go For if I do My mother will say "Did you ever have a time When you couldn't make a rhyme?" Down by the bay Down by the bay Where the watermelons grow Back to my home I dare not go For if I do.
I realized throughout the song it says that ‘my parents lie’ but then it says, ‘our mother will say. Don’t run away, I’ll keep you safe-“ Maybe this has something to do with possibly manipulative/a*usive parents?
i have a theory to sisters live together age 18 and 12 (the 12 year old is blind btw) after their parents died in a car crash down by the bay and they live down by the bay then one day the older sister sees her fathers dairy and finds out that the car crash was staged by her farther the man in the window and explains the book scene and the song is her explaining the story to blind sister as a song. oh and if you think my comments good then like please
I like to think the song is about a girl who went crazy from her family being murdered on vacation (don't trust the man under the sand- someone laying in wait). Then she is in a mental hospital, hallucinating that her parents and possibly little sister are still alive with them trying to further the lie with false promises and gifts. But they tell her not to look out the window otherwise she'll be reminded it isnt real and that her parents lie.
Did anyone notice it went from "Your mother will say" To "Our mother will say" And then to "My mother will say" Like it's sort of a clue that nothing in that world is real and with the "she isn't real" and "he isn't real"
