The band are from Camden, London. The lead singer, Suggs, has a strong London accent. The song was released in 1980 - before video cameras were easily available and before modern production values so this 'video' was probably recorded using a film camera on a low budget. I once read that Madness are like a Ska band that broke out in the middle of a Monty Python sketch and I think that is the most apt description of them. They never set out to be serious, just fun and that's what makes them so good.

Flying back then was a whole heap of work. A crane, some wire and a prayer the wire didn't snap. No CGI back then. Released in 1980 and got to number 3 in the UK charts. Probably their best known record but not their highest charting which went to House of Fun, their only Number One. Madness were my favourite band back when I was much, much younger.

Good old Baggy Trousers, you can't go wrong with Madness. My Girl, Cardiac Arrest, Night Boat To Cairo. Suggs wrote Baggy Trousers as a response to Leave Those Kids Alone by The Police, but said the style was based on Ian Dury and The Blockheads, you really should try one of his, Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick or Reasons To Be Cheerful. He really was unique.

When you said the classroom kids were 'very serious', that expression is meant to be boredom. The accents are London accents. Try 'It Must Be Love' by Madness for a different sound. It's a song by Labbi Siffre, that Madness covered. Labbi Siffre plays in the video.

The group, Madness are all "late" Baby Boomer generation and all the kids in the video are early GenX kids, like I was. I was 14 when this song came out in 1980 and this group and these songs were TOP of the charts. I am so glad I grew up with music like this, fun, up-beat and catchy. My generation grew up in a FUN decade from 1980-1990 - loved it

The flying saxaphonist, Lee Thompson, is an iconic moment in British music videos. He also did it in the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. You should also react to 'House of Fun'. Bonus points if you work out what the song is about! Or if you want to be different to every other reaction channel check out some of their more recent stuff which is just as good. I recommend Drip-fed-Fred which also features the legendary Ian Dury (check out his no.1 hit 'Hit me with your rhythm stick.') and 'Johnny the Horse' possibly my favourite Madness song which has a really upbeat tune but tells a very poignent story. For a change in Madness style 'Never knew your name' is worth a listen. It's a bitter-sweet romantic ballard.
