This was my jam when I was in middle school. I recorded it off of the radio onto a cassette tape and listened to it a thousand times. Ahhh those were the days. Thank you for uploading it! Brings back that same feeling from my childhood. Sometimes I wish I could go back...at least for a day. Nostalgia is beautiful and sad at the same time.
One of the ways you can tell it's re-sung is how the chorus has an extra part that's not featured in the original version, the part that goes "The truth is I shall not leave you. Though it'll make it harder for you to see me. I'm Argentina, and always will be", which I assume was additionally written for this remix as I've heard countless other versions/covers of this song but this remix is the only version I've heard that part in. And also, the way she sings is phrased differently than in the original version, to fit with the faster tempo.

I loved "Evita". I think this was some of Madonna's best work on screen. I used to own the original soundtrack. When I heard the remix on the radio, I ran out and purchased the maxi CD. It had five remixes of Don't Cry For Me Argentina. This song was EVERYWHERE in the late 90s. It was extremely popular in the dance clubs and played all over the radio in heavy rotation. Alas... I have since lost my remix CD. I couldn't even find it on iTunes... Thank you for posting this. :)

She and Peron eventually controlled all media and imprisoned and even tortured opponents, including a former associate of theirs, Cipriano Reyes, a union leader who was instrumental in the October 17 demonstration that freed Peron. They had a falling out concerning the direction of the unions and arrested him on trumped up charges (i.e., conspiring to assassinate the president and first lady). This song was reasonably popular in Australia at the time, but I don't think it got much airplay because the radio stations here tend to give preference to local Australian artists (the biggest of which at the time was Savage Garden). Incidentally, Evita was the very first movie released on DVD in Australia, in October 1997.

I was in Argentina when I aired this video on youtube. Wonderful song.....I saw the window she was looking out of. Song brought tears to my eyes. I have grown to love the natives.
