she is not only pulling off the 80's vixen look, she basically created it ;-) the jacket was gifted to her by Prince... she did have great breath control from the beginning, nasty critics said of her that she was a bit chubby on this tour and in all of her concerts going forward from here she's fit as F...so you'll have some amazing singing while dancing performances to look forward to, there really is no other like her. can't wait to see the rest

Thought the same… she’s not pulling it off… she created it

The first artist to do this type of show with full choreography - we hadn't seen anything like it before Madonna. More stamina than anyone today - dancing/moving non stop - and actually singing. No matter what people think of her today, she was a pioneer - and is a total Legend !

She's back in Detroit, her hometown, as a star. She did something with her life, she worked hard and it paid off. The tour was planned for theaters only, although the huge tickets demand they changed it for arenas. I love it. Thanks a lot

I can only imagine the rush of knowing your originally scheduled theater tour had to be upgraded to arenas because demand was surging that much!

Angel, Burning Up, and Borderline were cut from the video release. Back then, VHS tapes were 90 minutes long, so they were cut for running time. I wish they had released an uncut version. Great reaction, BTW.

Thanks for watching! Ugh! Such a shame those three songs weren't included. All are such fire. Would have been a thrill to see them in live format too!

Even though she is a classically trained professional dancer who danced for Martha Graham and Alvin Alley and spent two years in two different punk bands in NYC before signing her deal and after did club nights, the bosses at Warner didn't think people would actually wanna pay money to see her and that she'd probably fail miserably on tour. They booked her in 2500-3500 theatres and amphitheaters. The tickets were selling so fast they had to reschedule the tour into arenas of at least 10,000-25,000. Then it was said she sold a shirt every second before the show. She had the Beastie Boys open for her. She wanted to give them a break and her manager thought they were so horrible live her fans would be even more excited to see her. Nile Rodgers has said that he wasn't sure at first he wanted to produce her sophomore album. He had just come off David Bowie's Let's Dance. He went to one of her club shows and he said that fact that she was on stage dancing with back up dancers while singing is what convinced him to do it. He said at that time only black acts did that. And he loved that she was. In 83 she flew to LA to demand Freddy DeMann be her manager. She wanted him because he was who Michael Jackson had as his first manager after firing Joseph and was instrumental in getting him lined up with Quincy Jones and what not. He also helped put together the touring band that backed the Jacksons on their Triumph, Destiny and Victory Tours. He too was blown away by her life show and she said she wanted him because he was Michael's manager he said Michael had fired him and she said good now you have more time for me. DeMann for the same band, road manager and crew from the Jacksons tours to do The Virgin Tour. They would then also do The Who's That Girl Tour, Blond Ambition World Tour and The Girlie Show together. They all preferred touring with her than doing Michael's Bad or Dangerous Tours. Patrick Leonard who is the musical director and keyboardist would then go on to be one of Madonna's best co-writers and co-producers doing Live To Tell, Like A Prayer and Frozen to name a few. The concert was at the palace of auburn hills where at the time The Detorit Teams played and was built on the land the house she lived in until she was 4 was on. She stayed in the Detroit area until she left for NYC at the age of 19. Here she is at 27 and is at the time the woman to sell more than 1 million copies of an album for The First Album, sold more than 5 mil, and more than 10 million for Like A Virgin and the most played artist on MTV with a hit movie Desperately Seeking Susan and sold out tour that even the critics said was good. Because shed get so winded during the show she would start her life time obsession with working out, 4 hours a day 6 days a week and a microbiotic diet.

It's crazy watching this tour, to the sizes of the tour she does now and the massive production. She invented the pop tour as we now know them. I've seen her live in concert on every tour to her most recent, this is the only one I missed as it was just a US tour...and I was like 7 😉

She released this concert on VHS. The year was 1985. I was 5. I constantly asked my mom to rent this from the video store over and over again. I was hooked. This is so nostalgic for me. Thank you!💜

Great review of the store so far, I remember watching this when I was a kid and I didn't get to go to the show, but I was so excited to watch the VHS when it came out. Everybody is my favorite performance too and I even did a rendition of it at a talent show in college and one second place. Oh so many stories behind that but anyway I subscribed!

Again, you're always on point with your reaction I'm starting to think it's rehearsed or your reading from a script but that would be reductive as I know you are one smart young man. Good 👍

I have really enjoyed your Madonna reaction videos, but the large audience is not due to the Beastie Boys. They were still not that well known at that time yet, and their debut album wouldn't be released until a year later. Madonna in a sense gave them their big break. The Virgin Tour had record-breaking sales and was considered a commercial success. All 17,672 tickets for Madonna's show at New York City's Radio City Music Hall were completely sold out in a record-breaking 34 minutes. Both the shows at Chicago's UIC pavilion were sold in a single day with a record-breaking 18,000 tickets being sold. In Philadelphia, a record-breaking 31,000 tickets were sold in under four hours. Madonna said 1985 was going to be her year, and she was right.

Madonna made a little mistake when she didn't sing the lyrics "One day to come together to release all the pressure. on Holiday. But her great performance overall forgives that. FYI this commercial release of the Virgin Tour omitted Angel, Borderline and Burning Up from the setlist unfortunately.

Wait, are you doing a full Madonna reaction series of her whole career? If so, I'm in.
