How is it better? It just doesn't feel right to me. Just because he likes it doesn't automatically mean, it is better, and I don't I have to like it too. Just my 2 cents
MODANNA DOES IT WONDERS!!!!!!!!! if it wasn't for the org this AWESOME THING COULD NOT HAPPEN !!!!!!!!! my son love the remakes of songs & if it wasn't for the !st the remakes could not happen but then the YOUTH OF THE NATION would not even know these awesome songs so give some slack people peace be with you :-) & i was sing'n buy miss American pie.
drove my chevy to the levee but the levee was dry and good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye singin' this will be the day that I DIE We started singin' We started singin' You told me you liked it. If it wasn't for Mrs Horse you would have F'*d me, and I don't mean pleasure me.
Of course not as touching as the original, but it was ok. The techno-type music just doesn't fit what the song is about, and it cut quite a bit of the song.
I know it's blasphemy but I like this version better than the original. It has the 3 verses that I actually like, and it omits the verses I don't really care for.
Honestly I like this just as much as the other one personally I would love her to sing the whole song but she sang this great just like shes done with other covers.
I like madonna (I love her song,"like a prayer")but this songs makes me wish this"was the day I that i die"if you know what I mean. It takes the emotion out of the song.
I feel I might be in a minority here but I think both the Original by Don McLean and this cover rendition by Madonna are great in their own ways, and both manage to touch me deeply. To me, both covers are an example in the shift of tones and context between two perspectives. The Original by Don McLean is a somber lament of the loss of music artists and a time of turmoil, uncertainty, heartache and the whirlwind of emotion in a more troubled and less hopeful era... the day that the music 'died'. And how that day had crushed the hopeful idealism and laid bare the tearful angst and anguished rage of a soul who's icons had fallen in a time that seemed unbearably dark, and thus despaired from it. Madiona's cover meanwhile feels like a soul who saw that disquieting uncertain day of deafening silence and though a reverent desire wishing to preserve the works and messages of those fading or lost artists in that troubled time: to rekindle the hopes, feelings and wounder of that music to the lamenting, despairing and embittered hearts and touch those weary souls through song, much the way those who before them had touched souls of the people before. The torch passed and held aloft as a beacon; signalling the unwavering triumph of the beauty and resonance of music. The music that once died; revived in defiance of silence and passed on in hallowed memory. These two renditions placed side by side..... to me are the most emotionally powerful and moving in my mind. And I am not ashamed to confess: I am moved to tears by both covers of American Pie.
I love this song it reminds me of my Childhood and not too many songs do these days, but this is a classic to me, thank you for posting this on youtube. I greatly appreciate what you did. :)
@@priskruger314 I don't know if you meant that ironically or not. I hope you did, but if not, I wonder how you could have listened to all of Don McClean's original verses or the chorus that keeps ending on "this will be the day that I die" and think it sounds too upbeat. McClean's song deconstructed US nationalist mythology; Madonna's version just tries to reconstruct it in a more culturally liberal way.
@@globalhumanism we heard it in the film Finch, painfully beautiful and sad Tom Hanks film, and yeah it flew over our heads and we felt it was happy and that the Madonna version had a heavier mood, sound productionwise. But because of your explanation we'll give the original a listen w the lyrics again and more thoughtfully. Thanks for explaining!
The original lyrics have more story to it, and of course it's original, and a tour de force. Madonna version is a very fruity and shorter version, but sweet.
Iv listened to Don's version since i was a child and this is the first time im listening to Madonna's and i like the fact she's put her own twist and mark on things and its great, but it's got to be Don's for me as its a childhood memory! :)
understood. i have those to, but my sons get this, & it helps them love the org better ;-) & of course they heard Madonna 1st but they hear a lot of remakes & i can show the the org & they have always had a great love for all types of music just wanted to give another out look on this is all :-) ps my kids r 18 & 16 :-)
Its Jamie Davies I'm from the UK I'm 26 years old can you tell me again please that there's more than 100s of billions people all over the world that love living on their own and love having their own independence and love having their own space too just the same as me please reply back yes Deffo that's true please Angie Mcclellan mate. Take care I hope your 2 sons are ok Angie mate.
This song's like marmite (if you're British you'll get that)! But most people hate it. I love it, it's get an eerie background to it, and I also love the original. Do the lyrics have a second meaning, or are they just about discovering someone you love has another lover?
Let me explain myself here: im not a Madonna hater or anything, but I dont exactly like the pop spin she put on this song (its my opinion) it just makes me not like it very much because in this version it sounds like pop..
I can't understand how people find this 'better' than the original. The original song had a meaning, the most powerful thing about it were the lyrics. This is just some cover made for people who can't understand true meaning in a song. This doesn't contain any of the sadness the original song had, it's actually totally emotionless.. I can live with the fact that people like techno-sounding music over guitars etc, but this cover is in no way 'better' than the original.
Muito boa versão Se puderem vão ver. ...... American Pie-Don McLean(tradução) ..... aí vão ler sobre esta música e aprenderão um pouco mais o seu significado(sobre 3 pessoas que morreram)
Sorry to be a hater, But I dont think She sings this good, I mean dont get me wrong she sings good but I personnaly dont think her voice fits in with this song.
Madonna was make a mistake for cut a half mean of this song but the melody is great she did a great jobs but cut a half mean of this song make this song sound doesnt make any sense
Bye bye miss American pie, Drove my Eren to the Levi But the Levi was dry ! And good ol' boys were drinking whisky and rye, Singing this will be the day Titans diiie ! This will be the day Titans diiie... :D
@@ellengulinski7188 in time, perhaps today, you will realize you were raised in a culturally shallow ass environment, surrounded by shallow ass pop music. The era in which the original was written and released was much deeper and had so much more artistic integrity.
@Paul Doherty: Obviously not from the many favorable comments....just don’t count me among those. Are u even remotely familiar with the original? Were u around when it was being played on the radio or do u know it only as a classic rock oldie?
This is terrible, I honestly can’t see how anyone likes this version. Madonna sings this in a hyped up happy tone, whereas the lyrics are sorrowful, it just doesn’t fit.
Who wishes that in addition to the original "American Pie" covered by Madonna in this style, she could have also done an identical cover of Weird Al's "The Saga Begins"?
