Right??? I never saw anyone talking about that. I guess it’s supposed to say America’s obsession with money can lead to similar fascism of the nazi era. Material Girl was always a tongue in cheek song that never meant to say that money is the most important thing, and the fact people never understood that bothered her.
That weird phase of Madonna's career in '86-87 where she seemed preoccupied with Cyndi Lauper lol. Don't get butt hurt, people, I respect both women. But between the squeaky New Yawk accent, the vintage 1950's dresses and corsets she started wearing, the wing tipped glasses, and her character in Who's That Girl who acted like a kooky Lauper wannabe it seems Madonna was either mocking her or trying to beat her at her own game. She also hosted SNL around this time and made a skit of her wedding to Sean Penn in which her "cousin" a Cyndi lookalike shows up and Madonna says "we've never gotten along and I don't know why". Clearly Cyndi was on her mind for whatever reason.
Because up to that point Cyndi had more success. She had set a record as the first female to have 4 top 5 singles from one album. She had swept most of the music awards as well as sold more records overall. Your subjective option of Madonna being “better” doesn’t stack up to the facts. Cyndi was a real threat to her in the beginning. Why else would Madonna mock her on SNL and write in her Sex book about nightmares where Sean Penn was cheating on her with Cyndi. Clearly your beloved Madonna had her on her mind plenty :)

It's bc she's playing a role as a nerdy high school girl and she's friends with others like her in school but she still has raging hormones as any other high school girl would. So that is one of the many of the songs sayings.
I would have thought she would have worn that dress like she wore in the video. The one when she's dancing on the stairs with those guys like Marilyn Monroe. I think that would have been better then the way she's dressed here.
