Here we are, four years later, and this show takes on a different meaning in light of current events. It begins with a blood-red backdrop for the ritual sacrifice. The background behind Madonna is forming a skull figure right before she comes up on stage in front of it. "Like A Prayer" is the opening song of choice, with the chorus singing in a ritualistic fashion. Dancers wearing gas masks - for protection from toxic gases or perhaps fallout from war? In spite of this effort, most of them die anyway. "Not everyone will make it to the future, not everyone is learning from the past. Not everyone will make it to the future, not everyone that's here is gonna last." Yes, indeed, there will be large casualties in the war to come. Notice the Israeli and Palestinian flags on the backs of two of the dancers. Israel is dressed in black while Palestine is dressed in white, the pattern of duality. All of the dancers "die off" near the end of the song, except for the two wearing the flags. So these two will continue on after the conflict and everyone else is a mass casualty. Israel dancer and Palestine dancer walk away form each other and go their own ways. A shot of the big pyramid near the end shows who is in charge of this whole show. Madonna whispers "wake up" at the end, perhaps to alert the masses of what is to come. Doing the one-eye sign all through the show, showing us who is in charge.
