I was at this show. I was 12, almost 13 and it was amazing. I remember buying a hot pink tour shirt with her on the front in a raised lace bustier. Wore it my right wing conservative school the next school day and was so excited. Beastie Boys opened and It think most of us were shocked. They were filthy-mouthed and awesomely punk meets rap meets a whole lot of New York. But really, she was so on pitch, energetic, and clear. It was a total blast. Thanks to whoever posted this!

Madonna was at the pinnacle of success! As a result, she sold over 36 million copies of the album 'true blue' around the world in 1986. She sang without artificial resources that exist today. Pure energy and no dub or lip sync.

+knightfly28 How was it seeing it live? I'm very curious about this tour, more than the other ones Madonna did after.
@knightfly28
@knightfly28 9 лет назад
+Maximiliano Valverde Madonna got a lot of negative crap thrown at her back then for no good reason at all. Everyone was claiming she was a 1 hit wonder and basically shooed her aside and gave the crown "new queen" of pop to Cyndi Lauper(who I also liked). We know how that turned out. People were saying she wouldn't be able to sing live. We(her fans) didn't get why she wasn't taken seriously. Her vocals were so on point that night it was ridiculous. At the time me and probably most in the audience that night had no idea she would be end up being this super mega superstar. Hell we just thought she made really good dance music. I almost lost my mind when she sang Into The Groove because at the time, other than Angel and Dress You Up, that was one of my favorite songs.

"The Virgin Tour" Queen of Pop 1st tour, was pretty simple but no less important. Introduced Madonna to the big stage and audience, as demonstrated in this tour. Madonna know how to keep the audience mesmerized by the show doing the same go into a frenzy. The musical criticism in part thought the Madonna's musical talent dubious (at the time) but agreed that the public was delirious from start to finish of the show knew that Madonna was a fever.

Don't think this will ever be released in full, don't think she likes her early music. Anytime she has done it recently it's with that Bloody Guitar !!! "Material Girl" and "Burning Up", on the Reinvention Tour in 2004 and "Borderline" and "Dress You Up" on the Sticky and Sweet Tour in 2009. Pop classics totally ruined !!! If only they had the technology that they've got now back then. The camera would've been able to zoom right in and we'd see it properly, instead of a dot in the distance.

Thank you for sharing your experiences from 'way back when'. I really enjoy hearing stories like that. Brings back memories of my own regarding Madonna and all the arguments back then about whether she would last or not. I remember the first time I ever heard her name, where I was, what I was doing, who I was with, etc. I was listening to American Top 40 and 'Holiday' had just entered the top 40 that week. I remember Casey Kasem commenting on the fact that she used only her first name as her professional name. Nowadays it's extremely common-place but back then, it was a relatively new thing. I thought to myself, "hmm, Madonna, huh?" My next notable memory of Madonna is seeing her on American Bandstand. Yes, that unforgettable interview with Dick Clark when she said her goal was to "rule the world." I thought she was extremely intriguing, sexy, smart and beautiful. Then came Lucky Star and Borderline. All great songs from a fabulous new artist. I didn't need anymore convincing. She already ruled MY world (by this time I had already worn out my cassette of 'Madonna"). I didn't care what the rest of the world thought. But the moment I heard the first opening notes of Like A Virgin, I knew it was game over. She was definitely going to do what she had sought out to do: to rule the world. That's why it's so much fun to go back to these early videos and relive the memories of the days when Madonna took over.

The first song Madonna song I ever heard was "Everybody" in a gay bar in Shreveport. I loved it and went to the DJ booth to ask who sang it. He said "some girl named Madonna" and showed me the album. I bought the album and was hooked on her after that! Billboard magazine trashed her, saying that she was trying to sound like Cyndi Lauper and that she was nothing more than a flash in the pan. That pissed me off because I KNEW she was going to be huge!! I was right!!

She stayed loyal to Paul even tho most of these cats are from LA. Pat Leonard is on keys with Bill Meyers the string arranger and Freddy De Mann brought in some more Jackson Victory Tour cats. He had left Michael's employ right when Madonna got her second album started so she hired him. Smart girl, since Freddy had the biggest act of all and knew what to do to get her Pepsi deal and movie deals and a tour band and etc.

"The Virgin Tour" opens in Seattle, WA with the Beastie Boys as the supporting act. The tour ends with performances at Radio City Music Show in New York. On 15th November 1985, the show is released on home video as "Live: The Virgin Tour" directed by Daniel Kleinman, it peaked at #1 on the Billboard home video chart, where it stayed for 49 weeks. The release includes 10 of the 13 songs performed at the show, unfortunately leaves out "Angel", "Burning Up" & "Borderline".

Sorry, but it was released on November 13, 1985. By the way, I don't know why the hell The Virgin Tour wasn't a world one: she was already famous superstar all over the world in 1985. Anyway, I haden't seen her because my parents weren't even married back then. lol But It would be awesome to have seen more footage of her from this era and, especially, from The Virgin Tour.
@ginasousabranco5637
@ginasousabranco5637 9 лет назад
Sergio V You're right, thanks. but it was on 15th. Yes, when Like A Virgin album was released Madonna become known worldwide for more with the appearance on the MTV with the polemic Like a Virgin performance. I already questioned myself why the VT wasn´t a world tour, perhaps cause she already scheduled for 1986 their participation - Madonna & Sean Penn - as the main actors in the movie Shanghai Surprise filmed in Macao, a Portuguese colony at the time. 2 months after finishing VT, they married on Madonna birthday (August 16) and they must have started preparing for the movie. Don't forget that Madonna main objective was to be famous, be a celebrity and it passed through the 7th Art, the big screen, the music was like a backup plan.
@sergiorencio
@sergiorencio 9 лет назад
Gina Sousa Branco You're so right. Probably it could have happened, but she didn't want to take the tour any further instead of doing the stuff you mention. Maybe she was even more motivated because the hit Desperately Seeking Susan was. I wonder how Madonna's career would have been if her main goal had been being a singer instead of an actress.
@ginasousabranco5637
@ginasousabranco5637 9 лет назад
Sergio V Regardless the era, Madonna has always had a voice that differentiates her from the others, but it's still limited. Being only singer wouldn't give her the desired fame, so M joined all: singing, dancing (she's a professional dancer and that's why she came to NYC in 1978). Add M's creativity, boldness & we got a performer / entertainner,. It's 3 in 1.
@ginasousabranco5637
@ginasousabranco5637 9 лет назад
***** Compare VT with WTGT not make much sense. VT was the debut with 39 shows in North America & 1 in Canada. The choreographies, the voice was still somehow embryonic, very directed for young fans: the Madonna look like or wannabe. M was known but not as a global phenomenon that was already in 1987. WTGT was 100% professional tour, the 1st world tour, this is seen in M physically & voice prepared to live singing & demanding dancing as a professional, also visible on the huge stage with stairs, treadmill, lights, the band, the 3 backup singers, 3 dancers, costumes, giant screens, has been for a very wide audience, with more age. M had released 1 year before the studio album True Blue that marked the turn to new sounds, voice & personal style definitely leaving behind the Virgin era: music, voice & look.

This is the best Madonna tour. She never again toured with such raw energy and enthusiasm. Fantastic.I saw her in Atlanta GA on this tour. I saw 4 other tours and none compared.

I really miss the 'Do you feel allRIGHT! YEAH! YEAH !YEAH!' from the Cobo Like a Virgin. Did you notice the dancer knocking off his mic at the start of Over & Over?
