This interview is actually one of my all time favorites of hers. People say Heike is asking stupid questions or that she’s inexperienced but I actually think that her questions were quite reasonable, she’s just nervous. Madonna really does not like to do press much and she can be abit impatient and short. What’s funny is no matter how much Madonna tries to put her wall up and be quick and cold, Heike’s sincerity, kindness and nervousness keeps breaking her down and she can’t help but smile and giggle at certain points, while immediately trying to stop herself. The press was brutal to her during the early/mid 90s and Heike isn’t a threat to her, she genuinely likes her, and I don’t think Madonna knew what to do with it.
Madonna is a notoriously difficult interviewee because she's quite intelligent and rarely has the patience to tolerate stupid questions. Heike asked too many rhetorical questions, so it's no wonder M challenged her on most points and was visibly annoyed. It's still fairly entertaining to watch M (looking stunning btw) struggle to remain polite! Thanks for uploading this.
Rubbish. Madonna is full of her own importance. This interviewer is speaking in a second language......and theres Madonna sat there being a vomit. Typical
I thought Madonna handled it perfectly, the interviewer was obviously a fan of her & was a little giddy & anxious but a good anxious, Madonna responded very intelligently. When someone is being real they're always look at as being rude or mean, what you see is what you get is what Madonna has always exhibited which is why I'm a fan.
If you listen carefully at the beginning of the interview you can understand that Madonna was tired. She was not being mean or angry, she was just feeling drained, that's why she wasn't the warmthest.
Surprisingly a good interview..i never thought it will turn out to be good somehow. .cause ive seen bits by bits of this interview for years...M is so smart
This is one of my favourite Madonna interviews. I’ve read some of the comments about H being annoying and at some points she was but she was raw and endearing and I think Madonna felt that. At various points she looks like she gonna loose her shit but H just keeps barreling on which is actually perfect and she asked some really good questions. Kinda like a fan meet and greet. What this interview really represents is how honest and intelligent Madonna is and she has a real down to earth quality about her.
I agree, Heike is a big Madonna fan and she was really young here, early 20s and the channel gave her the chance to interview her and she took a friendly fan approach. Sometimes the english isn't perfect but i've seen older people struggle more interviewing Madonna and struggle with English. I do think she had some interesting questions as the interview progressed.
I think Madonna was not prepared for this kind of interview. I guess she didn't expect Heike so weil informed and with so much enrhusiasm. She must have thought 'Oh, this isn't the standard blabla interview' and had to come up with actual answers which made her uncomfortable. Near the end I guess she notices that Heikes questions do not intens to expose her, rather are honest interest in Madonna.
Madonna came into every interview with the mindset that no matter how much she explains her self people were just hell bent on misunderstanding her. Sadly, amazing as she is still to this day many people still don’t get it.
Madonna is completely no bullshit and very smart which would make her intimidating to anyone unprepared (see the infamous Ruby Wax interview), but this interviewer has done her research and holds her own really well
I agree. Considering Heike was 23 and speaking in her second language, she did really well. People say she was annoying with her ''Don't you think'' ''But isn't it also like this'' questions but i also see she often tried very hard to get Madonna talking and not just have her answer with one sentence answers or just ''Yes'' and ''No''. Even for experienced journalists who have english as their first language Madonna can be a very difficult interviewee. I think even at MTV US only Kurt Loder got to interview her for like a decade. Heike did her homework and is obviously a fan really interested in Madonna and her work and was not looking for dirt and gossip.
I actually like the interviewer bc she’s asking the real questions that most of us want to know or have wondered about. And it’s funny as hell to watch Madonna be thrown off. We are all use to her being so calculated and illusive.
first i notice Madonna was little irritated but then she start laughing and having more Fun, in the end said "It was Ok " with a smile ., just shows little patience can take you long way PS Interviewee 's nervousness , being little insecure was kinda part of the charm of this interview
I think Madonna can smell fear, this girl was very insecure and Madonna was not into that. She asked good questions but her delivery was very hesitant and Madonna was getting frustrated with that.
Madonna obviously seemed very annoyed and put-off by this interview for some reason, but I didn't think the questions were that bad! I was actually quite interested to hear her response to many of the questions.
At the same time though, she did laugh a little toward the end and she never got up and left or fought the interviewer. Maybe she grew more ok with the interview as it went on.
The german girl put a lot of effort she's manteined the rithm of the thing, she was very nice and made a great interview💪, i think she was fan of Madonna and was a littlebit nervous
The German girl seemed to be asking strange questions, but I think she was simply nervous, I mean how many times does one interview someone like Madonna. And Madonna is a very intelligent woman, not an easy interviewee for sure.
she has always been a very defensive interviewee! Also it is pretty well documented that her record company literally FORCED her to release Something to Remember because 1) Take a Bow was her biggest hit and they wanted to take advantage of that sound and 2) to help soften her image after the Erotica backlash.
I have to agree. I love Madonna but she always goes on about compassion and women's rights but she seems ignorant towards a 23 year old German girl trying hard to do a good interview with her here. Not even mentioning the fact, Heike was friendly, prepared and obviously genuinely interested in her and not digging for dirt or gossip, which Madonna should appreciate. This was done for German tv, so obviously she had to deal with someone whose first language was not english. Also Heike's english was pretty good, not perfect, there is a barrier but she is perfectly able to get her points across. She is obviously educated.
Steve Blame speaks German?! And also, keep in mind that Madonna has probably done 300 interviews that day and Heike was like a little kid with ADHD, not even giving her the time to answer questions. We'd all get a bit annoyed.
I thought it was a good interview and the interviewer was quite sweet, I think she was nervous and speaking a second language. I think Madonna was ok with her I think she started warming to her eventually
Madonna was struggling to not burst out in laughter because she didn't want to get Heike even more intimidated. Heike should have practised a lot more. Her English was a total mess. Very German, kind of word-by-word translation. Madonna doesn't like amateurs in highly representative positions. She probably felt sorry and didn't want to do the final back-stab.
Oh c'mon, let's face it: Madonna HATED her from the word go, not only because she was younger and more beautiful than she, but also because she was just as smart. Madonna's always hated to compete with orher women, and the fact that she's now embracing feminism is ludicrous. At least she could talk well and was remarkably articulared in those days. Now with those hideous grillz and all that botox injections combined, I can barely understand what she says. Poor LaNonna...
