Madrid or Valencia?
Two amazing cities with different personalities. Some things are better in Madrid and some are better in Valencia. It is a very personal choice and of course it depends what you like but in todays video I will give you my opinion about which city I like better to live. I will review transportation, culture, rent and more.

I believe that Valencia is the best place to live! You don't have the big hustle of a big street, and you also don't have the boringness of a small town. Probably Barcelona vs Valencia could be a better comparison. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that! Amazing video, thanks for sharing.

@@FlamencoOz Barcelona is a city of neighborhoods. I really like Valencia's center but outside of there is not much city. In Barcelona you have the Eixample, Gracia, Sants, Sarria, Poble Nou. All neighborhoods with personality outside of the center. Barcelona is the IT hub of Southern Europe. It's where the good jobs are.

I was in the US Air Force stationed at Torrejon AFB 16 km from Madrid from '73 - '77. Over that time we explored a lot of Madrid, finding the city full of culture, festivals, architecture and large, homogeneous population. We really liked the city, but the crowds and pace of life were not my wife and mine cups of tea. Madrid gets hot in Summer. Susie and I used to tent camp on the Mediterranean. We found Valencia to be more to our liking, so much so we sold our home in Maryland to move to Valencia permanently 4 years ago. For us Valencia is perfect. I have trouble walking - Valencia is flat. The cost-of-living is very palatable. The population is much more diverse and accepting. Because of our Mediterranean climate, outdoor life is the name of the game. There is al fresco dinning everywhere. Oh, and do I need to mention the Mediterranean Sea itself!? We have a world class zoo and aquarium, an international airport, and many festivals, especially Las Fallas. We find it hard to believe we are actually privileged to live here.

Hello. Good video. The next time you come to Madrid you have to visit the Casa de Campo lake area. The area of Puente de Segovia, Puente de Toledo and Puente de la Arganzuela (very cool) is also recommended. Then you also have the Lineal del Manzanares park, Juan Carlos I park, Campo del Moro gardens (behind the Royal Palace), El Capricho park. This is how you get to know Madrid something beyond the downtown area. I think you will be surprised .. 🙂

I love Valencia and lived there for almost two years in Russafa. No need to mention all the reasons as your videos have that covered, just a fantastic place to live or visit. I decided to move to Las Rotas in Denia for easier daily access to nature on a grander scale then Turia. I am retired, and I find the pace of daily life better for me in Denia. But Denia is 90 minutes by bus from Valencia and I go there whenever I get the urge. Madrid is also a great city, and one of the great things about Spain are the AVE trains. I can leave my house here in Las Rotas at 8am and with easy, comfortable, and affordable public transportation be in Madrid before noon.

bicycle lane network in valencia is unbeatable. most of those lanes are isolated/segregated from the cars traffic so they are safe. the network is really wide and being a city with no up/downhills and with an excellent weather, getting anywhere by bike is a pleasure i enjoy everyday. in madrid, lanes are unexisting or extremely dangerous.

I have been living in Madrid for the last 12 years in Barrio de Salamanca and am contemplating moving to Valencia for retirement. The main thing that I feel has changed in Madrid is the weather, winters in Madrid used to be much milder and sunnier with occasional spells of rain in Jan, but now in winter temperature drops to -5 deg C within the Almendras (Not considering Cercedilla or Navacerrada where it gets blanketed in snow) and summers are extremely hot reaching somedays highs of 45 deg C. Pollution is much higher in Madrid (Madrid Capital) whereas in Valencia the air is so much cleaner. In recent years cost and quality of services have gone up much in Madrid, just came back from Valencia where a really nice coffee in Mercat Central cost 1.8 Euros whereas in Madrid a decent coffee takes you around 2.6 Euros. The biggest factor is the sea in Valencia, which moderates the temperature. Madrid presents great work opportunities and competitive salaries if you want a career but Valencia offers a better quality of life. My favorite neighborhood is El Cabanyal, super artistic and rustic and next to the beach 😃

thanks for the comment. it's funny that I've been living in Valencia for 4 years now, and now thinking of moving to Madrid (to your Barrio) I have 3 kids 8,6,2. I love Valencia the only thing that I don't like is the short-minded locals and a pueblo mintality. I found friends that we are super happyt with but they are from Argentina. We hoped to connect with locals but they are not exactly at the same mindset as we are. We lived in London, New York, LA, Moscow and my home town Montreal. So after all the huge cities Valencianos seem a bit closed minded. Very nice and friendly people but for us we found it hard to find friends like us. And the second reason is the kids, I have this beilive that in Madrid they will have a better life. So I don't know what is best. Valencia is a perfect city in so many ways. What are your thoughts about this?
@leonab545
@leonab545 Год назад
Hmmm was just checking life expectancy and people live longest in areas near Madrid. Perhaps that is changing with the air quality? Also -5 😬. On the other hand, I noticed that many ground level windows have bars in Valencia and other areas near the sea in Spain. Doesn’t seem very safe.

I lived in Valencia for three months back in the '90s and loved it (I went back in 2015 for a week). I've been to Madrid four times so far and every time I like it even more. Madrid is my favorite European capital. I find that it is easier to meet people and make friends in Madrid. The Valencianos are in my opinion more reserved. I could live equally well in both cities. I wouldn't live in Barcelona as I find the smog and the humidity in summer extremely oppressive. Also one good thing about Valencia: besides having a beach of its own, it is close to other lovely places such as Alicante. And if you want to go to Madrid to spend a few days, it is 1h40 by train. What is not to like?

I just started watching your videos and love the comparison you did between Valencia and Lisbon. My husband and I are trying to decide between moving to Valencia, Malaga, or Lisbon. Malaga is listed as one of the top expat choices according to Bloomberg. Valencia isn’t on the list this year at all. I don’t know why. I have also heard from people that Lisbon people are friendlier. There are many reasons I would love to live near Lisbon - probably not in city center. But I love that the water is warmer in Valencia since I’m a big beach/ water person. I love to swim and paddle board and I prefer to be on the Mediterranean Sea. I also like the flatness and the space. Biking and walking seem so easy to do in Valencia. And it seems like there are plenty of cultural things to do. Thanks for sharing such helpful information and I can’t wait to view your other videos.

I just recently visited Valencia and indeed biking and walking in Valencia are quite easy and people are very tolerant to cyclists which is great, the climate is amazing, and I also imagine it would be great for water sports. I did find Valencia a bit dirty and chaotic though, and life in the neighborhoods seemed a bit boring. Overall, Valencia was a mixed bag for me, I had big expectations and it did not quite live up to them. Just my 2 cents.

Based on my experience, this is a balanced, accurate assessment. I've visited Madrid and recently "lived" in Valencia for one month. You're right that if someone is in need of work opportunities, support services, etc., Madrid is the better choice. If these resources are not needed, and the focus is on the Spanish lifestyle itself, Valencia might be better. But if you're from the US, Valencia will take some work in that you're likely to find many neighborhoods and businesses where little to no English is spoken. Some of us prefer that. I would strongly recommend to pay the north a visit, it might give you a new perspective. Both Madrid and Valencia are great, but there are many gems in the North like Bilbao or San Sebastian (especially if you are a foodie!)

Hi! I also want to live in Valencia but I am still trying to find a way to make money online. I tried to sell products on Etsy but it didn't work. Now I am trying to sell coloring books on Amazon. So, yes, please tell us any ideas about how to make money online:) Unfortunately, everyone says that it is very hard to find a job in Valencia and I don't want to take that risk.
@ANTOANETTA

Hi, Etsy is great but it changed a lot. If you have a skill you can utilize that with a few freelance jobs. Have you tried upwork or Fiverr? I might make a video in the near future about different options to make money online and invest.

I quite like your videos on the whole but why would you want to set one city against another? Each has its own charm. Why all this competing? It tends to focus more on shortcomings. Pity

I’m sure you’re aware, but Metro Line 10 from the center to Natzaret will open this year with stops in Russafa and Arts & Sciences. I’ve been very impressed with transportation improvements in Valencia. Madrid is great, too, with thousands of tiny places in one big place but I wish the local government would do more to curtail automobile traffic.

@@justinf7322 I loved all those cities, Barcelona and San Sebastian I would say are my favorites and although I have lived in the US for forty years I was born in Argentina so obviously I'm fluent in Spanish. I don't think it would be hard for me to adapt to life in Spain But as you know, visiting a place is not the same as living in that place.

It’s simple really. From my perspective: For working all year round. Serious salary In a serious financial permanent lifestyle, Madrid. For living la vida loca and working to live or should that be living to work..? Economically more viable, Valencia. Easy to move around, Valencia. More hours of sunshine and escapism: Valencia. It is not typical to have a big park in a city center???? London has 7. Paris has two. Lisbon has one… Should i go on..?

You're lovely. I left Chicago 30 years ago for Tampa and then Ocala, Florida. I married again and moved near London. It's so expensive here with few options, and I miss the sun. Do you speak Spanish. I speak a fair amount and always have, but I am not fluent ¡Yo tratando!
